How did I get here?

Over the course of the last year, Reed Johnson's life has made some interesting twists and turns, and sadly, very few of them were for the better. Now, to get her away from the scenes that provoked her post-traumatic stress, her father has chosen to move the family back home to Nazareth in Pennsylvania.
Both old and new friends quickly start to make an impact on her life, and pretty soon, Reed is caught up in a web of drama while dealing with a lot of stuff herself. With an already fragile mental health, who knows how she'll end up?

24. The nutcracker

After pranking David like we used to back when Jane lived with us (She hid in his closet and jumped on his back. For ten minutes he actually believed it was me.) we all went downstairs to catch up. It was a nice feeling to know that unlike when I was younger and the two of them would talk without me we were all equals now. Tim had retreated to his room sensing that as much as I loved him he would never as no body ever will belong in the twisted world of me and my siblings.

When daddy came home for some reason he and Jane rushed into the study to talk behind closed doors. David went to his room and I went to the kitchen to make dinner. i decided that tonight should be special so I was making Janes favourite. Calzones. After whipping up a decent amount of them I placed it all on a big plate and took it to the dining room where Tim had set up the table. Dinner was cheerful and Jane, David and I kept breaking into fits of laughter leaving Daddy and Tim to wonder which private joke we were laughing about now.

When everyone started yawning David took care of the dishes and we discussed who would sleep where. "I'll sleep on the couch." Tim hurried to offer. "No you won't. You are now a resident here and Jane is the visitor. She can sleep on the couch." I said while flashing an evil smile at Jane. "Yeah but.." Tim started but I interupted. "Dammit Tim just let me have my fun and make my sister sleep on the couch!" I play-yelled. He gave in and we all went to bed.

The next day after teaching "The Bumblebees" Lara told me to wait in the studio while she picked up Leo from the airport. (Leo was that dancer she knew from Chicago). I squirmed at the thought of being alone in the studio but just then Alex popped in. "Hey!" "Hey Reed. How's that cut?" "It's fine. They told me that I can dance with it so I'm happy." I smiled. "So can I see you do something?" "Like what?" "Like anything. You could take two steps call it something fancy in french and I would think it was ballet. I really know nothing about it." "Ok." I laughed and put on my ballet shoes. I did some pointes and some jetes though not grand jetes. He was pretty amazed and it was quite entertaining. Gina came in and ran to me. I picked her up and set her on my hip. "Babygirl you were amazing today!" I told her. Her face lit up with pride. "I tried to tell Alex that but he wouldn't believe me!" I looked to Alex with accusing eyes. " Don't let that get to you. He is just being Alex. And don't tell anyone but you really are one of the best girls in the class." I said to her. And I wasn't kidding. She caught on really fast and her movements were just the right mix of control and letting go. "Yay!" she exclaimed.

"Gina what are you still doing here?" Lara said in a caring voice. Following behind her was Leo. He was a quite handsome guy about Davids age. He had dark hair and olive skin. "I wasn't really comfortable with staying in the studio alone. Alex and Gina kept me company." I said but instantly regretted it. Now Lara would feel guilty for leaving me alone. "Don't!" I said in a firm voice and held my hand up to stop her. She took the que and I put Gina down. "Bye guys!" I said as they left.

"So lets get down to business!" Lara said and clapped her hands together. "Reed this is Leo, Leo this is Reed. But you already knew that. So you two will be doing a piece from The Nutcracker. Reed you are the queen of that sugar place I don't really remember all the names from the act and Leo you are just the guy you follow me?" She rambled. Lara would always get like this when she was really exited about a performance. She went through the steps with us and then we tried it out. We went through trial and error but eventually she was satisfied. "Alright tommorow same place same time. Go home and rest." She said with her hands on either side of my face. "You're exhausted. I can see it in your eyes. Go." She said. "Bye guys." and then she left. Typical of her to forget that Leo needed a ride.

"Need a ride to your hotel?" I asked while getting my stuff together. "Yeah sure. Thanks." "No problem. Where are you staying?" "The comfort inn." "Ok." We walked out to the car and got in. After a while he started talking. "Did you know that there will be tons of scouts at the performance?" "Really?" "Yeah. I hope that one of them will offer me a scholarship. That is why I came. And of course to dance with the famous Reed Johnson." "The what?" "She just wont shut up about you. Ever since you left Chicago I have heard endless storys about you." He laughed. I blushed and gave a little moan. "Well they should offer you a scholarship. You're amazing." I said just as we pulled up by the Inn.  "Thank you. So are you." "See you tomorow." I said as he got out. "Yeah see ya." He shut the door and I hurried home. It was late and I wanted to spend time with Jane. At dinner (Jane had cooked tonight thankfully) I told them what piece we were doing for the fundraiser and David and Tim (Boys will be boys) cracked up at the title. We all laughed at them before going to bed. I was asleep before my head hit the pillow.
