21. Knowing

Liam of course had refused. He would rather die than loose Danielle to some contract. And posed itself as a problem. Availability was everything for a band, but not too much so they were overexposed.

Simon turned to Danielle now, his mind set on pulling the two apart. She was immediately suspicious when she was called to Simon’s office.

“I’m sure Liam has told you by now,” Simon sighed, trying to act sympathetic. He laughed at the thought. It was something he barely knew the definition of. “I wanted to express my condolences, but to shine a light to what he left you in the dark about.” Danielle paused for a moment, her eyes scanning the floor, before she responded.

“I’m sorry… What?” Danielle eventually said, confused. “Liam was supposed to tell me what?”

“He didn’t?” Simon said, acting shocked. He shook his head. “Well, I supposed I should be the one to tell you…” Danielle adjusted herself in her chair, obviously uncomfortable with the entire situation.       “He is in violation of his contract, and he is to be removed from the band.” Completely shocked, Danielle’s eyes widened.

“Wait… how?” Danielle asked, now concerned. “I read through his contract myself- I had a bad experience with the falsehood of them- and there was only one thing that…” She stopped mid sentence, in horror.

“So you knew,” Simon replied slowly, leaning back in his chair. “And you didn’t do  anything about it?” Danielle shook her head, biting her lip nervously.

“I knew about it a few months after he signed,” Danielle replied shakily. “I didn’t want to say anything to Liam. It would have ruined him. He would’ve beaten himself up about it.” She paused, her eyes welling with tears as she realized everything she had foreseen was finally happening. “And now her we are. To save Liam’s heart and soul and career… and everything… I have to put him down.”

“Precisely,” Simon replied, with a sharp nod. This would be easier than Evelyn’s good –bye.  Danielle shot him a nasty glare, the tears gone as she filled herself with deep hatred for Simon.

“You are a monster, you know that?” She whispered, standing to leave.

“But a corporate genius,” he replied as she left. He would be awaiting the sobs of teenage girls, as they learned that the long-term relationship was about to come to an end.
