30. Evelyn's Letter

Harry sat in despair at the desk in his flat, mumbling over recent events to himself as he situated his head in his hands. Brushing his chocolate curls out of his face, he looked down at the letter in front of him, his name printed in beautiful calligraphy. It was from Evelyn. Perhaps he should have listened and heeded her story as a warning for what was to come. Yet, there still lay an inkling of suspicion in him that lingered in the dark corner of his mind, placing all the blame on Evelyn as if this really were her fault.

Ariana had denied Evelyn being any part of this unusual train of events, and so he would give the both of them the benefit of the doubt.

Slowly, he placed his finger under the edge of the envelope and tore the top off, afraid of what he might find underneath the white paper. Tipping the envelope over, a letter fell out, written on a lined letterhead. It was from Evelyn, written in her neatly spaced, curly handwriting, and beginning with his name, and then venturing down the page in great detail, her whole encounter of Match and the truth he had been waiting to hear.

I know you will find this hard to believe, at first I did too, though I hope you will understanding and not hate us- any of us- for what we had to do to save you… and Niall. You must understand the celebrity world is a cut throat empire- back stabbing, black mailing- and one moment you find yourself on the top, the next you are at the bottom of the heap. Our situation seems to be no different. Simon may look like a genie, going around granting wishes to whoever wants, and though it may see innocent at the start, you are getting more than you asked for.

Simon conspired against you, forgetting the reality of this and basing his decisions off his greed for money and not the emotions humans are blessed with. The contract you signed, on your first day of One Direction, was a trap. Even I am not aware of its extent in the role in Simon’s decisions, but I do know that it isn’t good. Part of the contract said that none of members could date until One Direction celebrates its third birthday.

Please understand that Danielle, Ariana and I did this to protect your careers, which we know are the most important thing to you. Ariana loves you more than I can describe, and my love for Niall could never be placed on paper. I hope you will considers us allies rather than enemies. We only want the best for you.

With love, Evelyn.”

The letter continued, probably to explain the other details to Simon’s’ scheme or maybe to express her love for Niall, but Harry stopped reading. He had read enough. Harry quickly stood, the chair tipping back and dropping to the floor, as he ran out the door.
