Evelyn often found herself staring at her engagement ring, strangely entranced with the jewels along the band, as she wondered how long Niall had carried the question. And then her eyes caught the reflection of the faint Irish sunshine against the diamond on her wedding ring and remembered it was over, and a new life had begun as Evelyn Horan the moment she had said ‘I do’ almost two years ago.  She had all she could ever want; the love of the most strived for Irishman, a comfortable way of living, and close friends that visited often.

Ariana sat down on the couch next to Evelyn with a sigh, pressing her palm gently against her stomach, smiling sentimentally down at her unborn baby girl. They had already named her Darcy- as most fangirls had predicted- and the One Direction fan base was buzzing with life once more, after healing from the scars and stress that had come with the uncertainty of the band’s future.

“How are you feeling?” Evelyn asked, taking a sip out of her coffee mug.

“I’m fine,” Ariana replied, rubbing her forehead with the back of her hand. “Just a little tired.”

“Mmm-hmm,” Evelyn half-replied, standing and walking over to the kitchen. “I guess I will make Harry some tea too, then.”

“Not like that,” Ariana laughed, turning her head to see Evelyn pour herbal tea into two steaming mugs. Then Ariana slowly added, “Its just the baby.”

“Whatever you want to call it is fine,” Evelyn laughed, handing the mug to Harry as he walked into the room.

“Oh, thanks,” Harry said, taking the tea, staring at it, curiously, for a moment before sitting down next to Ariana. He pecked a kiss on her cheek. “Morning, babe.”  He looked up to Evelyn. “Where’s Niall? Isn’t it your anniversary?”

“He went out an hour ago,” Evelyn sighed, taking a seat in the armchair opposite to Ariana. “Told me he had some big surprise.” Harry and Ariana had celebrated their anniversary four months ago. Evelyn had been nervous about getting married and had prolonged the engagement while she could talk to her parents about it and get over the fact that she was one of five lucky girls that would be Mrs. One Direction.

Suddenly the door slide open and Niall walked up behind Evelyn, placing a large parcel in her lap and leaning over to kiss her lips. “Happy Anniversary,” he whispered, sitting down in a chair beside Evelyn, who smiled back at him. Untying the scarlet ribbons, she pulled back the lid to reveal a beautiful golden retriever puppy, with big bright eyes that stared up at her.

“Oh Niall,” Evelyn beamed, lifting the puppy out of the box, “He’s darling!”

“He’s there to remind us how much can change in three years ago,” Niall replied.

“In three years,” Evelyn said resting the puppy on her lap as she brushed her fingertips along its soft head. “I’ve moved from America to England to Ireland. I’ve met, dated, broke up, and married you, Niall. I’ve learned that rumors spread like wildfire, and the media is quick to judge.”

“In three years,” Niall said, pausing for a moment to think, “I’ve met and married the girl of my dreams. I’ve released five albums of music with my five best lads, sang at sold-out arenas and moved back to Ireland.”

“By the time my next anniversary comes around,” Ariana put in, smiling to think about how much can change in such a short amount of time. “I’ll be a mother and wife. I’ve moved to England, such a far away place from America, and yet not so different. I’ve protected the ones I love. I’ve met crazy people and done crazy things, and I have no regrets.”

“It’s weird, isn’t it?” Harry added, “When you put it that way, it feels like everything has changed, even us, but, when you look at it another way, I feel like the same person. My better qualities have been brought out, and my worse ones lessened, but I’m still me. We’re still us.” He looked up, glancing at Evelyn and Niall and their new dog- how blissfully in love they were- their sparkling eyes that stared into each other’s so deeply. He looked at his unborn child- he had never seen her in person yet, but he knew she would be beautiful, surrounded by lovely people and a fan base that would back everyone up. He looked at Ariana- his beautiful wife, the other half he never knew he needed until he lost her. “The only difference is, we found our perfect match.”
