21. Unexpected

“Well, well, well, look who’s here, Romeo and Juliet.” said Dianna.

“What do you mean?” I asked, and Peter gripped my hand tighter.

“Oh, please, I know what you two are, and don’t try to act like you don’t know what I’m talking about.” She whispered, Brandon was too busy talking to his friends to notice.

“What are you? I thought you weren’t human but I never cared much anyway.” responded Peter.

“Silence class!” shouted Mrs. Freesia over all the noise.

“You guessed it before Steph, I’m a witch.” Dianna responded, she gave us a wicked grin.

“We’ll discuss this later.” said Peter.

“Sure thing” and Dianna turned back on her seat so that she was facing the front. The bell rang and Peter and I headed for science.

I was sitting in science class, Mr. Chan was in his biology lecture, and I was staring at the clock, wishing for the clock needle to move faster. Peter was two rows behind me, and I knew he was watching out for trouble. I look out the window, it was a dark day and the shadows of the trees coated the ground. It was then that I realised some shadows didn’t look right, I turned my head and looked at Peter, who probably sensed my uneasiness; I made a little sign with my head toward the window. His eyes grew wide and I knew he saw the danger. Just as Peter was about to stand up the windows shattered, sending shards of glass everywhere. In a second, Peter was by my side, pulling me behind him. Figures started to appear close to the destroyed windows, making my skin crawl.

“Just stay behind me, all they want is you.” Peter warned.

“But what about the rest of the class?” I asked, fearing for my classmates “They could use them as an advantage.”

“Good point” and in one second, I was under a table and watching a flash (Peter) getting people out of the class. Some kids understood and started getting out themselves, running out of the classroom madly. When there was no one else Peter went back to me, standing in front of me again.

“Well, well, well, look who we have here, Peter and Stephanie. I see you cleaned up the room for us, that wasn’t necessary, I am quite hungry.” Said a voice I didn’t recognise, but the way Peter’s muscles flexed instantly I could guess he did.

“Just leave us alone and no one will get hurt” said Peter.

“I don’t think so” said the voice, he stepped forward, and I gasped, his skin was white, paper white. His face was covered by a dark grey cloak that covered his whole body with the exception of his hands, which had black claws.

“I’m not leaving until that girl’s heart stops beating” the cloaked man said, pointing at me.

“Over my dead body.” snarled Peter.

“No need for that, I don’t want to kill my own brother.”

“A real brother would stop this madness” growled Peter.

“She’s dangerous! You can’t be with her!”

“I can do what I want!” at that moment, one of the cloaked man’s minions leaped at Peter, but Peter was faster, snapping his neck the second he was close enough. A second one jumped through the air, and a third, but Peter took them down easily. The cloaked man growled and cut through the air, Peter dodged him and repositioned himself in front of me.

“It doesn’t have to be like this” Peter said, and I knew he didn’t want to hurt him.

“I’m afraid it does” the cloaked man replied.

And they flew through the air again, and all I could see was a blur, I didn’t know who was winning. I heard a tear and prayed that wasn’t Peter getting hurt. They stopped and I saw a red line across Peter’s stomach, but his opponent we also badly scarred. They kept fighting for a long time, and I felt useless, when suddenly, Peter got thrown at the wall, the cloaked man holding his throat. Peter was dying, and there was nothing I could do. I watched as his lips formed three words that he’ll only say to me, a tear running down his cheek, and I reacted. I creamed the highest of screams, my hair rose up and desks and paper started flying around the room. With an incredible force I didn’t know I had I grabbed the evil man and threw him across the room, and Peter dropped o the ground under my feet. This only made me madder. I approached the cloaked man again and spoke, my voice pouring power out of it.

“You. Will. Not. Hurt. Him!” I screamed, and sent him flying out the window. “Leave! And don’t come back!”

The cloaked man stood up and ran. I turned to Peter and put my hand to his stomach, healing him completely.

“You saved me” he said, and fainted, his head on my lap.
