19. the dream

That night I had another dream, Peter and I were walking along the beach hand in hand, it was warm and the sun was setting. The waves were hitting the sand softly and they might sometimes brush our ankles. Peter looked happy and he seemed content to have me by his side. We got inside this hut where an old man was waiting patiently by the stove, he looked aged and withered, but his eyes were alive and smile never left his wrinkly face.

“Welcome to my home, I hope you enjoy your stay at the other hut I own, but first we have some business to talk about, so take a seat.” I sat on Peter’s lap and looked at the old man.

“What is it?” Peter and I asked at the same time.

“This concerns the completion of both your souls and the full purpose of all of this.” said the old man.

“We’ll finally know” whispered Peter in my ear. I smiled at him and let the old man continue.

“To gain, you must sacrifice.”

My eyes opened and I found myself in my room, tangled in bed sheets, heart racing at a thousand kilometres per hour. To gain you must sacrifice. Sacrifice what? This just got more complicated by the hour. It was dawn already and everyone was still sleeping, for some reason I could not go back to sleep, so I took my phone, knowing Peter must still be awake and probably really bored, so I decided I might tell him what I learnt from my dream.

Me: Hey, I know it’s late but I had a dream and I can’t go back to sleep, mind if I talk to you for a while? Xx

It literally took him 30 seconds to reply.

Peter: No problem :) may I know what the dream was about?

So I told him, I texted every single detail I could think of.

Peter: Do you know the old man’s name? Maybe I know him and we could find him to see what this is all about. You also haven’t told me yet what the Elder told you.

I was about to reply when I heard a knock on my window. I opened it and found Peter staring right at me.

“Hey there” he whispered. “I’m sorry, but I couldn’t wait until tomorrow, you have to tell me now.”

I laughed and shook my head. “Ok then, come in, I’ll tell you.”

He came into my room and sat on my bed and patted the spot next to him. I sat there and he put an arm around me to keep me warm.

“All I wanted were answers, about what was happening and why, Fiona seemed to know about it so I went there to ask her.”

“Ok, that makes sense, continue.

“She told me about our kind and your kind, and how they don’t get along together. She told about how a few decades ago, she went to see this old man, and he predicted that both kinds will live in unison because of two lovers, that’s where we come in.” I told him about what the old man said, about our purpose and the power of our love, and listened carefully, his smile never leaving his face. Then I told him how I think my dream and what Fiona told me linked together. He held my hand in both of his and looked me in the eye.

“It all makes sense now, it all has meaning.” A small tear slid down his cheek. “I love you, and the best part is that we are meant to be together.” He held my face in his hands and got closer and closer. “No running away this time.” He whispered, and then he kissed me. It was soft and beautiful I thought I was dreaming, but I wasn’t it was real, he was here and he loved me back, I had found my prince and I would never let go.

“I love you too.” I whispered.

“I know, and if you didn’t I’d be on my knees begging you to.”

I looked out the window and saw that the sun was rising.

“I think you should go before my parents wake up.” I said.

“Good idea, I’ll see you at school.” He kissed my cheek and left.
