10. Dianna

I was walking through the crowd of students, trying to get to my locker, when I saw him. Oh my, it was Peter, pushing his way through some jocks that were standing in the way. I headed his way and my eyes met his for a second, yep, it was definitely him. He stopped and turned around to face me, now he was walking towards me, he stopped a metre away from me.

“Stephanie” he said, and I was jumping from joy inside my head because he remembered my name, get a grip on yourself I thought.

“Peter” I replied and my arms distractedly reached out to him, but he was quick and he grabbed my wrists.

“Not here, meet me at the back of the main building at lunch, I’ll be waiting” and with amazing speed he touched my cheek and then left.

I somehow managed to arrive to History in time; Mrs. Brown looked at me with a puzzled expression as I took my seat next to Dianna.

“What’s up?” she asked with curiosity, but I could not tell her, not unless I wanted the whole school to know anyway.

“The ceiling” I said, and turned my attention to the stuff that Mrs. Brown was writing on the board.

A note touched my arm.

“Any interesting boys u met yesterday? Cuz they would totally love me don’t u think?” I read on the note.

“Nah, my parents got me tickets to Hawaii” half true, my parents were planning a trip to Hawaii but now I guess it is cancelled with the whole Peter thing. And I ignored her comment about boys, but if she put one finger on Peter… better not say anything yet.

“Ur so lucky, that’s cuz u r rich, I wish I got tickets to Hawaii” she replied, and her face was disgusted, well, not my fault my parents had money and liked spending it.

“Yea, I guess I’m lucky” I wrote, thankful the conversation was not about boys or Peter for that matter. She just looked at me, raised her eyebrows and stared.

“Is there a problem Dianna?” Mrs. Brown asked.

“No” Dianna replied.

“Good, because if you did we could discuss it at lunch” yes I thought, wishing to have Dianna out of the way, wouldn’t want a flirt like her all over Peter when I had some things to discuss with him.

“No! Everything’s fine Mrs. Brown” Dianna said with her most convincing smile.

But Mrs. Brown knew Dianna was not a good girl, but she just said “Well, then pay attention Dianna, you want to pass your exams this time”

“Yes, I do” and when Mrs. Brown turned around, Dianna rolled her eyes.

Mrs. Brown and Dianna had these fights all the time, Dianna hated Mrs. Brown, and Mrs. Brown hated Dianna. The difference was that Mrs. Brown was not allowed to show her emotions, but everyone knew anyway. And Dianna just looked out the window or tried to chat with me in class, and when it came to exams, she payed some nerd for notes. Dianna was pretty of course, she was the most popular girl in school, and all the boys fell at her feet. With her lustrous blonde hair and chocolate brown eyes that would make most girls feel insecure. She had the body of a model but the personality of a Plastic. I didn’t mind Dianna, I was never in her way, she was never in mine, and to be honest she could be nice if she really tried. But she was known for getting any boy she wanted, and I would not let her have Peter, Peter was my problem.

I finally got out of the classroom and made my way to my locker, secretly hoping Peter would be there waiting at my locker, of course, he wasn’t.

I put all my books away quickly and hurried to the back of the building, wanting to go faster but not wanting to look too desperate either. As I was weighing my options I didn’t realise there was a rock on the soft grass and tripped over it. As I waited for the floor to hit me and for the blackness to take me into unconsciousness, strong arms grabbed my shoulders with incredible softness. The strong arms hugged my back and then carefully turned me around to face the person whose arms belonged to. When I was fully turned I recognised who my saviour was: Peter.
