6. A meeting with the "Vamps"

I was coming back from school alone, until I saw them, the Earth Devils. They were blocking my way; I was unable to go home. So instead I headed for the school, already deserted, and they followed. As they got closer I realised that they moved like a pack of animals. The biggest one looked like the leader, he moved with confidence, no trace of hesitation written in his beautiful face. His skin was a touch more translucent than the rest of the pack, his eyes like black coals, with less life than the statue at the park near my house. My house, how much I wanted to be there instead of here, in the middle of the street, defenceless. He had a long, squared face which grinned strangely; his teeth looked like daggers, so sharp they could cut through flesh easily. The rest of the pack was all the same, like clones, but they did not demand your attention like the leader did, so gorgeous yet so dangerously looking. As he approached I realised more things about him. His hair shone in the sunlight, it was light brown with golden touches. There was something else about his eyes, they had a tiny circle of green-blue near the pupil, it was tiny but it was there. I could see that he was strong and fit even though he was wearing a shirt, he also looked bigger than the others. They all looked hungry; something inside me told me to run away, my sixth sense screaming at me to make a run for it. But the leader’s face was confused, like he was debating in his head about what to do with me, so I held back. They were coming closer; too late to run now I thought, let’s just hope the leader doesn’t want me for dinner.

“Hey, looking a bit lost?”  I said, happy my voice sounded confident.

“You shouldn’t be out here at this hour.” His voice was angelic, like a waterfall, a deep, rich waterfall. I absentmindedly took a step back. But he saw it.

“Don’t be scared.” He said, but this time I wasn’t taken by surprise and I took another step back.

“My name is Peter.” Wonderful, that sounds innocent enough; no one would be scared of a guy called Peter.

“S-stephanie.” He smiled and took another step.

“Don’t hurt me, please.” I said, absolutely scared now, after all, I’ve been taught to fear these creatures, but there was something about Peter…

“I’m afraid I can’t promise you that.” And I fainted.
