Corrupt. Differed. Changed. Controlled. The words I would use to describe my current life. My thoughts are no longer my own.

In fact, they have never been my own.

A long time ago, they decided to experiment on their own. They decided to see if we could have the same thoughts, emotions, and way of life as them.

They thought it was silly.

Our kind thought we could change the world. Destroy emotions, change the way we see ourselves. Eliminate work, elimate things that segregate us. Destroy the way humanity is.

And they have begun to succeed.

Unfortunately, it is destroying us more than anything else.

And it is the way things will continue to go.

I own no quotes, or song lyrics!

"We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty, and to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form, and says, 'Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that, one way or another."

-Robert Oppenheimer

“Take me down to the river bend. Take me down to the fighting end. Wash the poison from off my skin. Show me how to be whole again. Fly me up on a silver wing. Past the black where the sirens sing. Warm me up in a nova's glow. And drop me down to the dream below. 'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass. Hardly anything there for you to see. For you to see”

Castle of Glass- Linkin Park

There was once a time in my life where I was normal. There was a time when it was possible to see things normally. I wasn't different, and I wasn't an outcast living on my own.

There was a time when revenge wasn't the answer, nor was it even somewhat of a question.

But that time was long ago.

You'd be surprised what our earth has been reduced to. Depression after depression, war after war. All countries turned against each other, it ended up being neighbor versus neighbor. We did this to ourselves. I mean, it's hard not to hate everyone that surrounds you. They did this to us.

The instigators were at first our friends, our maids, the people that so heavily assisted us. Now they may as well be the spawn of the devil.

If you have yet to guess it they're robots.

Not flashy, new fighting robots. Not at all! These are full trained, well thought out robots that may as well hold real emotions. Rumour has it that they contain 4 of the 5 senses, so yes, they may contain human-like emotions.

You're probably wondering why there were so many they could overthrow humanity. They were our guards, our chefs, our workers, in general. Sometimes, they were our best friends who, although incapable of real emotions, were the people we could confide in. At one point long ago, they did everything for us.

So now they make us apart of them. Every month, one day, they claim four humans. These four will go through a secret transformation. Those people are never reported of again. We honestly don't know what happens to them. Some say the robots have failed every time, so the humans are sacrificed to be killed. If we could rebel, we would have a long time ago.

This may sound like something you have heard before, maybe from a storybook, maybe something you may have seen in a movie, or even a nightmare, but here, it is a reality.

I guess starting on the day that this all began would be the best idea.

You know how Mondays are the most hated days of the week? While this Monday was particularly rough.

It was the day that 4 of us would never return.

Normally their leader would stand in front of a teleprompter and announce 4 towns that would lose one person. We would then nominate who would go. My town has been picked twice in the last 100 years, so we are all prepped up to being called again. We always think of who would be the best. Who would struggle the most, and actually make an impression on the bots.

I have no one to call.

But anyway, this year they didn't they just randomly announced that they were going to take the people as soon as they could. They pretty much sent me on edge, because if you're alone, you're just as vulnerable as when there is a huge group of people all around you.

We are all nervous.

I walk through town now, my hood pulled up over my blonde hair, knowing with how light it is, you can see it despite the fact that it is nearing 11:00pm. We haven't gotten word from any other town, but communication is limited, and you cannot talk to them unless you are given permission.

Nobody wants to risk to get permission at this point.

The center of town, normally so busy, and so full of life, is silent. There isn't anyone to be seen. We all hold the similar fear of getting caught.

“Lacrimosa.” I whisper to myself. “We are all lacrimosa.” the words chill my bones. I had never heard the word lacrimosa used to easily, thrown around as if it were nothing. In this day and age, we use Latin a lot. Whenever we are stuck, we throw a Latin in there somewhere. Lacrimosa means weeping. We are all weeping. We are all in pain. All grieving.

But that's not the worst of it.

I focus my blue eyes in front of me, every part of me hoping that I wouldn't start freaking out, or running or anything. I'm pale. It's hard to go out in the daylight, and know that they are watching you. You can feel their eyes on you...

As I walk, I can tell that there might be someone behind me. It isn't loud enough to be a car, but it might be something that needs the street.

I peer out of the side of my eye, my breath holding in my chest. I could hardly breathe.

The bicyclist drives past me, without even another glance. I catch my breath, and let a laugh escape my throat.

Just 1 more hour.

I adjust my blue hoodie praying that nothing horrible would happen in the next few minutes. Sure it's easy to say just one more hour, but in reality, one hour could change everything we have ever lived for.

It could be the difference between our life and death.

As the years go by, difficulties may arise. What am I saying? As the years have gone by, the difficulties rise. At first it was all fun and games, nobody thought anything of the robots wanting positions, but soon it became a bother. They wanted more and more power, eventually they overthrew us.

And then all hell rose.

I'm not saying that we didn't see it coming. I'm sure there were people who saw the end nearing. They didn't say anything, most just went through it, they didn't fight, they didn't want to fight. Nobody wanted it to go into a full fledged war, but in the end, that's what it became. It was never anything we could control, the entire time, it was a war. No other country knew about our struggles until all communication was cut off.

We didn't think a thing about it.

Now you see why I think they're all idiots in disguise. That's what they are, there is no excuse for the ancestors that damned us all to hell. They're the reason I'm here.

There is no one from the old days still left alive. They died years ago due to the fact that they were the first people that the transformation was attempted on.

I hear footsteps behind me. Fast, and approaching me at the speed of light. I immediately start running, fear snapping all other resolves I may have had. I cannot think at all. Only the adrenaline I feel pushes me.

Then I fall.

The ground comes out of nowhere. The wind is knocked out of me, and I cannot breath.

I lay on the floor.

The only thought that races through my mind is I have failed. And I have. After pushing so hard for so long, I have failed.
