Blame September (One Direction)

Blame September Trailer:

Carter’s face remained serious. “You’d be surprise what makes different guys want to hurt a girl.” He said. “Just remember what I said.” Carter threatened once more before pushing past Harry and driving away.

Harry stood for a moment stunned at Carter’s threat. He wondered what Lili’s last boyfriend did to her. If it’s as bad as Carter says, he might even want to find the guy himself and do a little damage. He then walked up the stone porch and rang the doorbell. It was Lili’s mother who answered the door...

2. Chapter Two: The Carnival

“Last Friday Night!” Charlotte sang Katy Perry’s song Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F) at the top of her lungs as the two, Lili and Charlotte, got ready for the Carnival. Both girls were in Lili’s parents’ massive bathroom. Their endless supply of makeup was laid out on the gray marble counter tops, first separated by purpose, then by color. From lip gloss to eye liner to blush, even all types of hair tools like The Wand and a Revlon blow dryer, the girls had everything under the sun they needed to get ready. It was the first Friday of the summer and the two were beyond excited to go out and have fun tonight.

“No, I like the pink top better!” Charlotte expressed to Lili. Lili was torn between two outfits to wear, but on the opinion of her best friend, chose her lavender pink baby doll shirt with her light pink shorts and her lavender purple, velvet wedges. Even though her favorite color was purple, pink really complimented her slightly wavy, golden blonde hair and brought out her hazel eyes. Charlotte had on her black jean shorts with her beige crop top and charcoal gladiator sandals. When the doorbell rang, the girls squealed in excitement.

“Hey, you guys ready?!” Carter asked them.

“Yes! Just in time too!” Charlotte replied.

“Wow,” Carter’s jaw fell, “we’re only going to the carnival.”

“So, we can’t look nice?” Lili smirked.

“No. I mean you guys do look gorgeous, but there’s no need. You’re hair and makeup will probably just end up getting ruined anyway.”

“Oh there’s definitely a need.” Charlotte chimed in. She gave a sly wink to Lili. “Lili’s got to impress her new boyfriend!”

“He’s NOT my boyfriend!” We just met, I barely even said yes to tonight.”

Oh, but I saw the way he checked you out,  better yet, the way you fawned over him.” Charlotte laughed. Lili quickly slapped her arm.

“Oh, please” Lili started, putting much emphasis on the word ‘please’. “Sure he’s got good looks, what with his luscious brown curls and beautiful British accent, but that’s beside the point. His personality is what’s important.”

“Sure it is.” Charlotte said sarcastically.

“It is!” Lili stated, reassuring herself, “If anything, this probably won’t even escalate past a one night hook-up.  Definitely not a summer fling, and if it did become one, no way in hell longer than that.”

“Whatever you say!” Charlotte exclaimed.

“Come on Char, you know I can’t be tied down” Lili winked and both girls couldn’t help bursting out laughing. Carter was standing against the wall with his light brown hair falling just above is grey eyes. He couldn’t wrap his head around what was going on so he just grabbed his white Nikes and finally joined in the conversation.

“Okay…well we better go.” He said in a confused tone. The girls giggled some more and stumbled out the door way. The three friends piled into Carter’s red Mustang Convertible. They put the top down and were finally off to the Carnival.

The warm summer night air was comfortable against the teens’ skin. They arrived and rushed to the ticket booth. Carter seemed a little too excited for the Carnival. He was bouncing up and down on his toes, impatiently waiting for the couple ahead of them to finish buying their tickets.

“Fifty please!” Carter requested from the stocky, black-haired woman in the ticket booth.

“Fifty, really Carter?” Charlotte asked uneasily.

“Yeah, fifty. Unlike you Char, Lili and I actually like to ride the rides.”

“Hey! I ride some of the rides! I just prefer staying close to the ground and not becoming nauseous, thank you very much.” Charlotte said in a snobby tone, tilting her head slightly upwards. The three of them got their tickets and proceeded into the Carnival.

The rides lit up in all kinds of bright colors and screams of laughter filled the air. The smell of cotton candy and funnel cake lingered under the noses of the hundreds of people who were gathered to enjoy a night of fun. Carter grabbed Lili’s hand and rushed over to the first ride he saw. The sign said “The Zipper” and underneath that it said “5 Tickets”.

“Alright, you guys are insane.” Charlotte said.

“What, you think this, is scary?” Lili said sarcastically, pointing to the ride behind her and letting out a slight giggle. It was a type of Ferris wheel, but it was more of an oval rather a circle. The caged in carts rode on a belt that took them around the oval. The multi-colored carts hung loosely, allowing them so swing and flip upside-down.

“No, I think it’s a death machine for the suicidal.” Charlotte laughed.

“Well fine then. You can go wait on that bench over there while we go on.” Lili instructed.

“Whatever.” Charlotte rolled her eyes and then dragged her feet over to the brown wooded bench. Lili glanced back at her friend. She could tell Charlotte was annoyed by the way she was glaring and slouching her shoulders. She was normally taller, her stature at about 5’7.

After waiting in line for about five minutes, it moved forward and Carter and Lili were up to take the next car. The ride attendant opened the door and the two climbed in. The attendant slammed the door shut and locked it on the outside. At this point there was no turning back. Carter and Lili were trapped like dogs in a kennel. Adrenalin pumped through their veins as the ride began and their cart started to sway

“I heard if you rock the cart, you flip more!” Carter yelled to Lili. She smiled and nodded, agreeing to the challenge.

Down below, Charlotte watched with eager eyes. She heard terrifying screams coming from the “death trap”. She refocused her eyes on the ground to steady her stomach. Just watching the ride made her want to vomit. She fiddled with her medium length, chocolate colored hair as a tall man sat down next to her. She glanced over at him and recognized his mop of brown curls. They were the same brown curls that complimented the gorgeous Brit from the beach, earlier that afternoon.

“It is absolutely lovely out tonight, don’t you agree?” he asked Charlotte.

“Yes, it is. Hey, would your name happen to be Harry by any chance?”

“Why yeas, it would. I guess you recognize me.” He let out a chuckle.

“Yeah! I thought it was you!”

“So...would you like an autograph or something? Maybe a picture?” he said smiling.

“Wait, what? No.” Charlotte started confusingly. “Why would I want that?”

“Well most fans do.” He laughed. “You know, so they can prove they met me, or to keep as a memory.”

“What do you mean fans? I meant I recognized you from the beach this afternoon. I’m Charlotte. You asked out my best friend Lili...”

“Oh! You mean she’s really here?!” Harry said excitedly. “I was afraid she really didn’t like me. It seemed as though she thought I was some kind of jerk. I guess she’s really good at playing hard to get.” He said while giggling.

“Yeah she’s here. Her and our other friend, Carter, is on that death machine over there.” She said pointing to “The Zipper”.

“Awe, what’s the matter? You don’t like rides?”

“Well, not particularly.” Charlotte laughed. “So what about you, Lili said that you said you were already coming here with friends, and you were jest inviting her along, but I don’t see anybody.”

“Oh, well Niall was complaining about his stomach growling, so they all went to get some ice cream.”

“Oh I see” Charlotte giggled. “So what did you mean when you said ‘that’s what fans normally want’?”

“No, tell me.” Charlotte ordered.

“Just forget it, it’s nothing.” Harry practically shut down.

“Oh come on, you can’t say something like that and then hide from me. You were completely up for conversation twenty seconds ago.”

“Well…” Harry began. “You see…” He seemed lost for words. “You can’t tell Lili, okay?”

“Well she is my best friend, but I guess, depending on what it is that you’re about to tell me, I can keep it from her.”

“I’m from the boy band One Direction. We’re on break and decided to come to American for the summer.”

“Hey, I’ve heard of you guys! Weren’t you guys on The X Factor or something?”

“Yeah, we came in third, but Simon was so proud of us he decided to sign us anyway.” Harry smiled. “Well, anyway, I just don’t want you to tell Lili because if you didn’t know, I assume she doesn’t, and this gives me a chance to be with a girl who likes me because she got to know me, not because I’m in some famous British boy band.”

“I get that. But what I don’t understand is that I heard you’re a flirt, I read a lot of magazines.” Charlotte said, reassuring Harry she wasn’t a stalker or anything. “So I would think you would like thousands of girls obsessing over you.”

“Oh I do!” Harry winked. “But when I find someone who I actually want to take out, then I’d rather them actually like me, and my personality, and my looks as a bonus.” He said laughing.

“Well, listen here mister flirt, you better not hurt my friend, or I’ll hurt you, got it?” Charlotte tried sounding intimidating.

“Well I don’t think I want that. I wouldn’t want you to have to ruin your hair or anything” Harry Joked. “And a pretty girl like you probably is really tough underneath that gorgeous face.”

Charlotte laughed, but Harry flirting with her didn’t make her happy that he was who Lili was supposed to be meeting here. At least Lili said she wouldn’t go too far into things with this guy, and that made Charlotte’s nerves calm.

Finally Carter and Lili made their way over to Char, who was now by herself. Harry had to run to the bathroom, but told Charlotte to inform Lili he was here. Charlotte stood up to greet her friends.

“God, that was a long ride.” She said annoyed.

“Well sorry, but we actually like having fun when we go out for a night of ‘fun’. You know it’s kind of the whole point.” Carter said to Charlotte sarcastically.

“Well, while you guys were on the ride, I found something that you, Lili, might like.” Charlotte smiled.

“What are you talking about?” Lili asked. Then suddenly Harry came back, and this time he was with his four band members and now best friends, Liam, Zayn, Niall, and of course, Louis.

“Why HELLO there!” Louis said loudly. “You guys must be who Harry talked about so much. Now tell me, which one of you is Lili?” Louis lunged his whole body and winked.

“That would be me. May ask who wants to know?” Lili said.

“Why, that would be me, Louis, Harry’s best-est friend ever!” Louis laughed and Niall joined in.

“Whoa, who said you were Harry’s best friend? Hmmm?” Niall questioned, and Harry interfered.

“You guys, I know you all want me, it’s cool, there’s enough of me to go around!” Harry winked and everyone let out a laugh. “Hello Lili, I was starting to think you were going to forget about me.”

“Oh, of course not! How could I forget you Harry? Hitting a person with your soccer ball does leave quite the impression.” Lili smirked. Harry smiled at her and Lili blushed. “Well do you guys want to ride some rides, or are we just going to stand around and make small talk all night?”

“Well let me introduce the rest of ourselves. This over here with the amazing hair and who seems to be pouting, but really is super happy, is Zayn.” Harry began.

“Hey there!” Zayn said.

“And this tall, good looking guy, he’s our dad.” They all laughed. “Actually no, this is Liam.”

“Thanks Harry.” Liam laughed.

“You obviously know Louis, not much introduction needed there.” Harry smirked.

“Vas happenin’?!?!” Louis yelled.

“And this little guy is our very own leprechaun, Niall!” The whole group burst out in laughter.

“Hello everybody!” Niall said in his Irish accent. He was the only one who didn’t have a British accent.

“Well hi to all of you!” Lili said, “I’m Lili, and these are my two best friends, Charlotte and Carter.”

“It’s very nice to meet you all.” Liam said. “So now that we are all acquainted with one another, let’s hit some rides!”

“YES!” Carter yelled.

The new group of eight headed over to the Ferris wheel. It was quite large, with pink, blue, and red carts. The lights flashed to the music playing in the background. Usher’s song DJ’s Got Us Falling in Love rang through the teens’ ears as they paid their tickets and boarded the ride. Charlotte was nervous about going on, but decided it wasn’t going to make her nauseous and that she could manage the height. Since each cart only seated four they had to split themselves up.

“Okay, so who wants to ride with whom?” Zayn asked the group.

“Well! I believe we should ride Carter with Charlotte and me! Liam, you and Zayn, and Niall can ride together. Okay sound good?” Louis said with a smirk on his face.

“Well what about us?” Lili asked.

“Oh, don’t worry my darling; you and Harry can ride together. Sorry, but there isn’t enough room for the two of you in either cart!” Louis answered her.

“But…one of us can go in one cart and the other can go in another cart…” Lili said confused.

“NO! YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED! JEESH!” Louis screamed. Then he looked at Harry and smiled.

“Really Lou?” Harry questioned. However it was too late, because the six of them were all off in their separate carts, leaving Lili to be alone with Harry, in their own, private cart. And that was exactly what Louis was trying to do.

“After you I guess.” Harry gestured toward the red cart that was waiting for them. Lili shrugged and stepped inside. Harry followed and sat opposite Lili. Then the ride attendant closed the door and they were off.

“So, is your head okay?” Harry asked Lili.

“Huh? Oh, yeah. I mean I guess if you consider only having a slight bump okay.” Lili laughed.

“Well, believe me; I really am sorry about that. But if it is any consolation, you don’t look any less gorgeous.” He smiled at her and Lili’s heart melted.

Relax Lili, one night hook-up only, remember? Lili thought to herself. She really was afraid of commitment and definitely was not looking for someone to tie her down this summer. She looked at him and replied, “Why thank you.” She batted her eyes and smiled. “And I must say, you clean up pretty well.” She said, grinning and looking him over.

“Thanks, I try.” He smirked. After a brief silence he realized Lili was starring at something off in the distance as they were nearing the top of the Ferris wheel. “What are you looking at?”

“You’re going to laugh at me.” Lili shied away from the question.

“I will not!” Harry exclaimed. “Well unless it’s truly ridiculous.” He chuckled.

“Okay, well, it’s just…” she started. “Sometimes I like looking at the beautiful night sky, breathing in the brisk air, and when I breathe out, it’s me letting go of all the meaningless things in my life, and remembering everything that’s important.”

“Wow, that’s deep.”

“It’s silly, I know…”

“No, it’s amazing. I feel like that too. Sometimes the world is just a bit much.” He began to say, but stood up and switched sides to sit next to Lili. He wanted to be seeing the same view she was seeing. “But it’s the moments like this that you like to cherish.” Harry turned and looked into Lili’s big, hazel eyes. She stared deep into his emerald green eyes and the world around them seemed to disappear. “Moments where you want to remember everything, and make every moment worth remembering.” He looked down towards her lips and back into her eyes.

“It’s like, you read my mind.” Lili smiled and began to lean in. She slowly closed her eyes and was just about to kiss Harry when she felt a warm sensation on her cheek.

“As much as I would love to,” Harry exclaimed. “Believe me, I really would. But also in moments like this, you want to make sure you don’t make a single mistake. So that nothing ruins the chance of making that single moment last longer.” With that being said, Harry grabbed Lili’s hand and pressed her head to his chest, and for the rest of the ride, that’s how they sat. Cuddled together, listening to the sound of each other’s heart beats. Lili couldn’t help herself but close her eyes, and smile.

When the ride was over, the two looked into each other’s eyes once more and then exited the cart, being greeted by the rest of the group.

“Well, look who’s finally off the ride.” Louis joked. “You guys must have had a great time.” Louis winked. Harry and Lili glanced at each other and just smiled, not saying a word to anyone.

“Am I missing something?” Carter asked.

“Yes, but you’re not the only one.” Charlotte stated. “Will one of you please talk?”

“I like that ride.” Lili finally said. She stole a quick glance from Harry who had shook his head in agreement with her statement. Lili bit her lip and looked back towards her friends.

“Okay! Well I’m sure we are all glad you two had fun. Harry, I’m not surprised you did, but we got to go. We have got things to do tomorrow.” Niall interrupted.

The five band members waved goodbye, and turned to leave. Lili also turned, in the opposite direction, and headed towards Carter’s car. The other two ran to catch up with Lili and Charlotte began to yell.

“Uhm, HELLO! Would you mind explaining what happened, why you are all of the sudden miss quiet, smiley pants, and why you’re leaving?”

“I just had a good time, and now I’m tired and want to go home.”

“*cough-cough* Bullshit. *cough-cough*” Charlotte laughed.

“Okay fine, I’m not tired. But I just want to end the night with a really good feeling, is that too much to ask?” Lili said innocently.

“No, it’s not. But you have to tell us what happened up there?!” Charlotte was beginning to get impatient and anticipated Lili’s answer.

“Okay, you really want to know? We had a good time, that’s what happened.” Lili answered Charlotte and then began to run towards Carter’s Mustang.

“UGH! I’m gonna hurt you!” Charlotte yelled and Carter ran after both of them. The three of them fell into the car laughing and arguing, but Lili was insisting on waiting at least until morning to talk about one of the best nights she has ever had. She just wanted to go home and put herself to sleep with nothing but great thoughts and wake up and then reminisce about the great time she had. This way the moment would be lasting much longer than just that short time in the Ferris wheel, just like Harry hoped it would. It was always his goal to leave girls feeling great about themselves, and more importantly, wanting more of him.
