Blame September (One Direction)

Blame September Trailer:

Carter’s face remained serious. “You’d be surprise what makes different guys want to hurt a girl.” He said. “Just remember what I said.” Carter threatened once more before pushing past Harry and driving away.

Harry stood for a moment stunned at Carter’s threat. He wondered what Lili’s last boyfriend did to her. If it’s as bad as Carter says, he might even want to find the guy himself and do a little damage. He then walked up the stone porch and rang the doorbell. It was Lili’s mother who answered the door...

3. Chapter Three: Trust and Secrets

The sound of singing birds filled Lili’s bedroom. The morning sun crept through the window; gently sneaking onto the bed and up to Lili’s closed eyes. It was a very peaceful environment, and Lili awoke slowly, with a smile still on her face from remembering how she spent the first Friday of summer. She pushed off her ocean blue, silk covers and slipped on her red bootie slippers. Lili pulled up her blinds and opened the window to breathe in the crisp, summer morning air. Next, she walked out her door and looked over the wooden railing to find Charlotte and Carter passed out on opposite ends of the brown couch in her family room. She snuck quietly down her wooden staircase and into her kitchen. On the marble counter top she read the note left by her mom:

            Dear Lilian,

I see you had a late night last night, not even a tornado would have woken you up this morning! I wanted to know how things went down last night, and whatever happened with that new boy?! Oh well, I guess I’m not important enough to know, so I let you sleep in this morning. LOL! Anyway, I went out to pick up a few things from the store and grab a couple of new pairs of shoes; I’ll be home later!

                                                                                                                        Mamacita (;

Lili rolled her eyes at the way her mom used “text” lingo in her note. However, Lili loved her mother very much, and they were each other’s best friend. Things got really rough after Lili’s father passed away about two years ago from cancer. He had been in and out of the hospital frequently, and it was only a matter of time. Once he had died, Lili’s mom had shut her out for weeks, and it didn’t help the situation. Their huge house got very lonely with just the two of them, but Lili’s mother knew they could only be at peace once they confided in each other, and since they did, you could never find a more perfect mother-daughter relationship.

Lili always called her mom, “Mamacita”, (even though everyone else, including her friends, called her mother Zen, short for her full name, Zendela.) and was happy she finally caught on. Lili smiled, and then tossed the note in the trash can. She made her way over to the cabinet and grabbed the can of Dunkin’ Donuts French vanilla coffee mix; her favorite. She made three cups and carried them on a tray into the family room.

“Rise and shine sleepyheads!” Lili sang loudly. She took the blankets from both her friends and threw them to the floor.

“Ugh, do you always have to be such a morning person?” Charlotte groaned.

“Oh come on! It’s 11:30! It’s practically lunch time. Besides, I made coffee!” Lili exclaimed excitedly.

“Give me coffee!” Carter yelled.

“Alright, alright. Jeesh, you could at least say please and thank you.”  Lili complained.

The three sat on the ground with their backs against the couch, sipping the delicious hot coffee. They all looked a mess. The girls’ make-up was smeared all over their faces and all three of them were still in their clothes from the night before. Carter had major bed head, but he had the type of hair that made bed head look sexy. The girls always joked with him; complaining about how they wish they could look as good as he did when they rolled out of bed.

“So what are the plans for today ladies?” Carter asked. Charlotte groaned again.

“Uhm, I’m not doing anything until I shower, I feel disgusting.” Lili said.

“Yeah, same.” Charlotte sighed in agreement.

“Okay I guess we’re taking showers today. Great plan you guys! Sounds like so much fun!” Carter cracked and the girls shot him dirty looks.

Lili collected the three empty coffee mugs and placed them in the dishwasher. Carter relaxed on the couch while the two girls ran up the staircase. Lili started the shower in her parents’ bedroom and Charlotte closed the door behind her after starting the shower in Lili’s bathroom.

A short while later the girls were dressed. Lili had on denim jean shorts with a black bandeau underneath her beige, knitted-lace sweater and brown, braided leather sandals. Charlotte had on her black and red floral romper and ash black sandals. The girls still had no idea what they were doing today, but that issue was not on their mind.

“So, are you going to tell me what went down last night on the Ferris wheel?” Charlotte questioned Lili.

“Oh! Nothing really.” Lili smiled and shrugged.

“That’s it? You’re not going to spill anything?!”

“Well, there really isn’t much to tell. We were at the top, sharing our deep thoughts about life, we cuddled, and well…I went for a kiss and he stopped me, only giving me a kiss on my cheek.”

“Wait, you WANTED to kiss him?” Charlotte yelled. “I thought he was ‘just another boy’ and now you seem like you’re all into him.” Charlotte smirked.

“I am not ‘all into him’! I just…it’s just that,” Lili struggled to find the words, “he…he really seems, well…different. Like, I actually held a decent conversation with him. The only other guy I could ever do that with is Carter and that’s because he’s like my brother to me at this point. And yeah, yeah I know, girls always say ‘but he’s different!’ and I’m not saying this to sound cheesy, it’s just the only honest way to describe him…”

“I think you like him” Charlotte giggled. “Ha-ha! I told you so!”

Lili shot Charlotte a death stare and then looked out the window. She began getting lost in her own thoughts…

“Is Char right? No, of course not! I only just met this guy. I had two days with him…but is that enough? Ugh! He is so different though. Or is he? Maybe that was all just an act to make me fall for him. I bet he’s a huge player. But that could be a problem, because I know I always go for those types anyway. Who knows if I’ll even see him again! I mean, I would love to see him again…NO! Stop it Lil’. Don’t make it obvious. Wait, how could I? I don’t even have this kid’s number. Wow, I’m an idiot. I can’t believe, after such an incredible night he didn’t ask me for my number or even offer me his! Wow, and I’m sitting here, not able to get him off my mind, and he probably had no intentions of seeing me after last night. Ugh…just great…”

“Lili!” Charlotte yelled, trying to refocus Lili and bring her back into the world. Everyone knew Lili spent much time thinking and over-thinking things. “Seriously girl, I think you’ve fallen.” Charlotte gave a wink. “That’s what we should do today, spend a little more time with those boys” She smiled and trailed out of the room.

“Well, to be honest, I would love to. But that jerk, Harry, never even gave me his number or asked for mine so that ruins those plans.”

“Oh, no worries.” Charlotte smiled. “Louis gave me his.”

“What?!” Lili yelled. “How is it that I was practically set up with Harry last night, and you just happened to meet Louis, but yet you get his number?”

“We had a lot of fun on the Ferris Wheel as well. Not like you guys, but you know, actual fun. We made fun of people on the ground and laughed about stupid things each other did”

“Oh well aren’t you the social butterfly…” Lili sounded annoyed.

“Oh, grow up, maybe Harry just forgot. Now if you don’t mind. I’m going to call them.”

The two walked down to find Carter stretched out on the couch watching an episode of Jersey Shore on MTV. Now that they were cleaned up, Carter looked absolutely disgusting.

“Wow Carter, aren’t you attractive.” Lili cracked.

“Shhhh!” Charlotte waved at them. She was trying to hear Louis on the other end of the line.

“Yeah so we were wondering if you guys would wanna do a lunch date? I figured the two love birds from last night could continue whatever it was they did on top of the Ferris wheel.”

“Haha, that sounds great!” Louis said. “So who’s it going to be, just us four?”

“Four? Aren’t there five of you guys alone?” Charlotte laughed.

“Well yeah, but if we brought any extra people then it wouldn’t really be a date now would it?”

“Louis Tomlinson, are you saying that this is a double-date, not just one for Harry and Lili?

“Yes, I am saying that.” Louis said cockily from the other end of the line.

“Well fine then, it’s a double date. How about P.F. Chang’s at three o’clock? Charlotte stated.

“Brilliant. See you there love!” Louis said then ended the phone call.

Charlotte turned towards Carter and Lili who were shooting insults back and forth to one another.

“I’m sorry that I didn’t get the chance to shower yet. At least I look semi-decent when I wake up.” Carter smirked towards Lili.

“Well you don’t even have clothes to change into so maybe you should go home and get dressed so we can go out!” Lili said, pointing towards the door and holding up Carter’s keys.

“Fine. Just call me when you find something to do.” Carter grabbed his keys and stormed through the door.

“He’s such a little kid sometimes I swear.” Lili shook her head.

“Well that’s fine because he’s not allowed to come on our lunch date anyway!”

“Wait, what are you talking about?”

“Yeah, I just finalized plans with Louis and we are double-dating a P.F. Chang’s at three!”

“Oh so now we are all dating?”

“You know what we mean just like four friends hanging out.”

“Oh, I see.” Lili began. “And Char, how do you propose we get to P.F. Chang’s when our ride just walked out the door and he’s not invited to eat with us?”

“Shit. Fine! I’ll text Louis. Maybe they can pick us up.” Charlotte smiled and winked. She grabbed her phone and shot Louis a quick text message. Seconds later her phone vibrated and she read the text from Louis:

Of course we can swing by and pick you two up! That’s what the perfect date would do anyhow(;

“See Lili, it’s all good. Louis said it’s no trouble picking us up.”

“Okay, fine. Double date it is. I guess I’ll tell Carter we can chill later.”

“Yeah, he’s probably still pissed about you making him leave anyway so he probably won’t even care.”

For the next hour the girls sat in front of the T.V. and on their laptops blogging and relaxing. It wasn’t long before they heard a honk outside and Charlotte’s phone buzzed with another text from Louis:

Get your bums out here, we are STARVING!(;

They walked outside and saw Harry behind the wheel. Louis got out from the passenger side and held the door open, motioning for Lili to get in. Then Charlotte and Louis scooted in the back seat of the black Lamborghini. Harry flashed his gorgeous smile as Lili stepped in and Lili smiled back, turning away so Harry couldn’t see her blush. In the back seat, Louis and Char noticed the shy flirting going on up front and glanced towards each other, shooting one another flirty winks.

They pulled up the P. F. Chang’s and the four got out of the car and headed towards the door. Lili was walking before she felt her hand being pulled towards back. She stumbled over her feet and fell into Harry’s arms.

“Whoa there.” Harry smiled, “I just wanted to give you a ‘hello hug’, since I didn’t get the chance before you got in the car.”

“Well you could’ve just said my name and hug me from the front like a normal person” Lili laughed, staring up at those gorgeous green eyes of his.

“Oh trust me; I’m far from normal darling.” Harry smirked, realizing that Lili didn’t get the reference to One Direction considering she still doesn’t know about them; only Charlotte does. “Besides, the fun is all in the surprise.” He winked.

Lili cocked her head, smiling and turned to catch up with the other two, who were inside and who had already gotten the four of them a table.  They all took their seats and placed their orders. Once the waitress had taken their menus from them to give them more table room, Louis decided to break the awkward silence.

“SO!  How is everyone today?!” Louis said. The others laughed at how he used such a cheesy conversation starter. “Well I didn’t see any of you starting to talk about anything.” Louis stated sarcastically.

“You’re right Louis. We are so terribly sorry if we hurt your feelings. Forgive us?” Harry said with a puppy dog expression.

“Oh Harold! You know I could never stay mad at you” Louis smiled and leaned over the table to give some bromance love to Harry. They threw their arms around each other and faked some tears of forgiveness. Then they sat down and laughed it all off.

“Aw, aren’t you two just the cutest couple.” Lili smirked.

“I think it’s adorable!” Charlotte giggled.

“Oh you know it.” Harry said. “No one knows it, but me and Louis are secretly deep in love. We have already decided we are going to get married on a mountain. But shhhhh it’s a secret!”

Everyone laughed at Harry’s sarcastic crack and the waitress brought them their food. The girls listened as the boys told stories about the crazy times they’ve had since meeting each other. Anytime Louis came close to giving away that they’re members of practically the biggest boy band in the world today, Harry nudged him under the table and Louis retracted his words. Before they knew it, time flew and they all had finished their lunch.

“Oh Harry! I just realized we forgot to get Niall that thing he wanted at the store!” Louis looked at Harry.

“What thing?” Harry said confused.

“Well he didn’t tell you, but he told me so let me have the keys and I can run and get it!” Louis stuttered.

“Why do I get the feeling you are lying…?” Harry squinted at Louis.

“I’M NOT!” Louis yelled, but laughed at the same time. “And I have to go now or I am going to forget!!!!!”

“Okay, fine. Here are the keys. Don’t be long.”

“YAY! Thanks buddy! Oh, uhm, Char I might need some help, care to join?” Louis smiled, and then gestured towards Lili and Harry, hinting that he was trying to get them alone.

“Oh.” Char acted surprised. “Sure! We will be right back.” Charlotte winked at Lili and the two left the restaurant.

The waitress came back to collect their plates and asked if they would like dessert.

“Well our other two friends seemed to have left us so I guess it’s a no for them, but I believe we would like to share a sundae if you don’t mind” Harry smiled at the waitress and Lili looked at him.

“Oh we would, would we?” Lili questioned.

“Yes.” Harry said simply. He looked at her showing off his dimples and Lili couldn’t help but laugh.

“Okay, I’ll get that right away for you two.” The waitress said, and then walked away.

“So tell me Lili, did you enjoy yourself last night?”

“Well now that you mention it Harry,” Lili said, “I was very curious as to why, after our moment on the Ferris wheel, you didn’t ask for my number. Or give me yours for that matter?”

Harry laughed. “Well would you believe me if I said you left me too caught up in the moment that, that didn’t even come to my mind?”

“No, I wouldn’t believe you. But for sake of arguing, I’ll accept your excuse” Lili said smirking at him.

“Here, just so we don’t have to worry about this next time…” Harry grabbed Lili’s phone that was sitting on the table and added him to her contacts list and sent him a text message. “Now we have each other’s numbers. Now that you made such a big fuss over it, you better be texting me a lot.” Harry winked at her, and Lili shook her head and took her phone back. She glanced at the time and it was already 5:30! She couldn’t believe how much time had passed without her knowing.

Meanwhile in the car, Louis and Charlotte were talking about carrots.

“So what exactly about girls who like carrots is so attractive?” Charlotte asked sarcastically.

“Well you see, I was only joking, but I’ve come to the realization that when our directioners talk about me and “carrots” they could possibly mean ‘my carrot’” Louis laughed “But in the great words of Bruno Mars: There’s only one carrot and they’ve all go to share it!”

The two almost died of laughter, but Charlotte managed to get out a few words. “You are a sick boy, Louis.”

“No, actually that’s Harry. He’s the flirty pervert out of us five.” Louis joked and stopped the car at a view overlooking the city of Hollywood.

“Oh my gosh, Louis!” Charlotte stepped out of the car and her jaw dropped. “This is amazing! How did you know about this!?”

Louis stepped out of the car as well, sitting on the hood with Charlotte. He looked at her who was looking back, waiting for him to answer her. He stared out into the sky, breathed in and answered her.

“Well, a couple of nights ago I felt really homesick and I took the car for a drive to clear my head. I came upon this place and sat here just looking at the sky and the lights of the city. It really calmed me down to be up here thinking that even though I miss home, I’ve got such a great opportunity in my hands and never would I thought that I’d get the chance just to look at the city of Hollywood, let alone other major cities of the world. Also, I know that when I look up at the sky, my family at home is looking up at the same sky, and it makes me feel a lot closer to them.”

“Wow Louis. That’s so beautiful of you. It’s crazy that you act so immature sometimes, but when it comes down to it, you are really sweet and such an amazing person overall.” Charlotte said. She grabbed Louis’ hand and just held it.

“You remind me a lot of an old friend of mine, Eleanor. She used to say the same thing.”

“Well it’s true. So is Eleanor like your sister or…?”

“No,” Louis laughed. “Actually, she was my girlfriend. We broke up about 2 months ago though because the distance between us was beginning to be too much for her, and I told her that I would rather her be happy, so by her leaving me I would be okay knowing it’s better for her.”

“Oh, I’m sorry if you didn’t want to talk about her, I was just curious.” Charlotte apologized.

“No no, it’s okay. Besides, two months gives me plenty of time to be upset, get better and move on.” He smiled at Charlotte then grabbed her hands and pulled her closer to him.  Then they lay back so their backs rested on the windshield of the car and they cuddled together.

Charlotte looked up at Louis and turned his face towards hers. She bit her lip then slowly moved in for a kiss. Her cold lips met with Louis’ warm lips and instantly sparks flew. He began kissing her back and slowly slipped his tongue inside her mouth. Charlotte ran her fingers through Louis’ hair and Louis cupped the back of Charlotte’s neck. They wrestled each other’s tongues for a few minutes, breaking for air slightly, before Louis began to stop.

“Look, Charlotte.” Louis whispered.

“Yes?” Charlotte smiled and whispered back, her eyes still close from trying to hold on o the moment.

“I’m really enjoying this.” Louis began, “And the problem is, I think I’m starting to really like you…”

“Why is that a problem?” Charlotte giggled.

“Because, I’m 20 and you’re 17. People aren’t going to be happy if they heard we had a thing…” Louis trailed off.

“Well then for now, nobody has to know.” Charlotte whispered in Louis’ ear and his face was blank for the moment. Then he smiled and gave her another kiss, letting her know he liked the idea. Then he broke hold of Charlotte and hopped off the hood.

“I think we should get you back home.” Louis said and they both got back in the car and drove away.

Harry and Lili finished their dessert and had left P.F. Chang’s. Louis and Charlotte never came back for them so they decided to walk. The air was nipping at Lili’s skin and sent a shiver through her body.

“Here, take my sweatshirt.” Harry offered.

“No, it’s fine.” Lili said.

“Stop. You don’t always have to seem so strong you know. I can tell you are cold now take it.” Harry said. He didn’t give Lili much time to reject a second time since he had already taken his purple Jack Wills sweatshirt and placed it on her shoulders. Lili looked at him and then back down at her feet.

“Thank you” She said and pulled the hoodie over her head. Harry slipped his hand into Lili’s and locked fingers with her. Lili’s heart jumped when she felt his warm hands on her skin.

“I’ve never seen that hoodie look so good on a person.”

“Why thank you.” Lili laughed. “But I bet you’ve said that to every other girl who’s worn this sweatshirt.”

“No, actually.” Harry smiled. “I haven’t. Then again, I haven’t ever seen another girl in it. You’re the only other person I’ve ever let wear it.”

“Really? Or are you just saying that?” Lili asked.

“No, really. It’s my favorite, but I trust you.” Harry said, stopping and starring into Lili’s hazel eyes.

The walk back to Lili’s house didn’t seem to take long. After Harry confessed he trusted Lili the mood seemed so much lighter and carefree. They both wish their walk together under the starry night sky could have been longer.

“Well, this is my stop…” Lili said, sounding a bit let down. She turned to face Harry.

“I just have to say,” Harry started, “Tonight was really fun, and I’m sorry I didn’t give you my number yesterday, but I really hope you’ll call me tomorrow?”

Lili stared up at him and nodded. Harry studied her then bit his lip. The setting had been perfect; the moon made Lili’s skin glow and the stars danced in Harry’s eyes. The two slowly moved closer to each other. Harry grabbed Lili’s waist on both sides and pulled her into him, catching her lips with his. Lili hesitated, but accepted his kiss and kissed back; hard. She wrapped her arms around his neck and tugged at his curls a little bit, giving Harry a rousing sensation. Lili’s knees grew weak as Harry’s tongue slid deeper and deeper inside her mouth, and hers in his. Harry slid his hands lower, caressing Lili’s bum then moving his hands upward under her shirt.  His hands were gentle on her skin; Harry rubbing his hands up and down her sides sent butterflies through her stomach. Minutes had gone by and the two began to bring their tongues back into their own mouths. Their breath was hot on each other’s cheeks. Harry pulled back, tracing Lili’s arms with his fingers.

“Now you HAVE to call me tomorrow. There’s no way I can’t see you after tonight. ” He whispered smiling. He stared into Lili’s eyes, and gave her one last peck on her cheek before turning to leave. Lili turned and headed inside her house. She walked up her staircase, smiling the entire time. Lili took off her shoes along with her shorts and top and threw them in the corner of her bedroom. She fell back on her bed in her panties and her bra, and stared at the ceiling. She let out a slow, deep breath, rolled over pulling her comforter over hear body and fell asleep.
