When you live your entire life in a small town in Michigan, you never expect to find yourself standing on stage in front of crowds of thousands everynight. But that is just how i get to live my life. It all started 5 years ago, freshman year of highschool. I can remember it like it was only yesterday...
"Elena, we're going to do just fine will you relax?" Sadie was trying to calm me down as I paced backstage of our schools annual talent show.
"I can't relax Sadie! I can NOT believe you talked me into doing this! Singing infront of everyone?"
She grabbed me by the shoulders and forced me to stop and look her in the eyes. "You know I'll be standing right next to you the entire time, you are incredible and I know you'll do amazing." And I knew I had to trust her and get on stage...
The performance itself is kinda a blur, but I knew that after singing "Poker Face" and playing piano, the feeling it gave me left me knowing I never wanted to do anything else with my life. So after years filled with lots of youtube cover videos and several more small shows, we finally got the break we were waiting for.
The call was somewhat unexpected. I sent an email to Simon Cowell to ask him to check us out on youtube and see our next video where we would be covering One Directions song "Moments", because he happened to be the owner of the record label the band sings for. Well, little did we know he actually watched them! So when his voice came over the reciever, I couldn't contain my excitement.
"I absolutely adore you're voices. You girls are really something special." He sounded so genuin and sweet it was almost to difficult to believe it was actually the same Simon Cowell who was known to make people cry for fun.
"Wow, thank you so much Mr. Cowell. But, why are you calling us?" I didn't intend for it to come off as rude, but the moment i said it, I regreted the words ever leaving my mouth.
"A girl who gets right down to buisness, I like it! Well you see, I've been looking for an opening act for One Direction for their 2013 tour and I think you girls are just what I need."
I had to actually cover my mouth to keep myself from screaming. After I yellped for Sadie and explained what had happened, she actually did scream. "Oh my gosh are you serious?!" She slapped me so hard in the arm, it deffinatly left a mark.
"Yes I'm serious! Are we gonna do this or what?" Of course the answer was yes, but to be fair I knew I had to ask her, incase for some super crazy reason she didn't want to go.
"Tell the man yes already!" Sadie practially broke my phone trying to pull it out of my hands.
"Mr. Cowell, we would be honored to open for the boys on their tour." Tears started to form in my eyes as these words actually crossed my lips.
"Great! I'll email you all the information, including your flight. You'll need to come out to London as soon as possible to start rehersals." After we disscussed some more buisness related aspects, the conversation ended and Sadie and I jumped, screamed and called everyone we knew to tell them the good news.
In only 2 short weeks, we found ourselves sitting on a plane on our way to London. We cried the moment we left our little Michigan town and also when we saw the skyline of London. Our lives were about to change in every aspect, and we were ready to embrace all of it. As we stepped off the plane, we looked around the airport, since Simon said he was sending us a car to bring us to our new flat. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a sign that read "Sadie and Elena." I had to stop myself from falling over in shock when I say who was holding it. Behind the sign were 5 boys, smiling and waving towards myself and Sadie.
I turned to Sadie and as she was picking her jaw up off the floor I said, "You deffinatly don't see that in Michigan."
"I could deffinatly get used to this" Sadie exclaimed and a grin started to form across her face. All i could manage was a nod as I heard a very excited collection of hello's escape the british sensations as we approached them.
