Blessed Grotesque

This isn't actually a poem, I like to write songs as well and I wrote this one in response to the pressure on people to be perfect. It's a song about wanting to be beautiful but accepting who you are and throwing the V to the classical idea of beauty and perfection.

1. Blessed Grotesque

Lipstick smeared all round face,

Mascara runs down to my neck.

My hair's a mess

My mind's a wreck.

And no-one can fix me-

A parody of how we're meant to be.

Materialisation of the world's infatuation

With perfection all gone wrong

And you can kiss it all goodbye

And let it die!

You take a heart and mould it into something false-

It's not our fault, it's not our fault

That we're not beautiful!

So grotesque! Such a mess! Such a mess!

It's not our fault that we're not beautiful!

It's not our fault that we don't fit the world.

Operation make us into something else-

We don't want to be ourselves

Need something else, need something strong

To make a metamorphosis

Though we know the world is full of shit,

And full of lies-

Time for stitching up our eyes,

Pretending we're all butterflies....

You take a heart and mould it into something false-

It's not our fault, it's not our fault

That we're not beautiful!

So grotesque! Such a mess! Such a mess!

It's not our fault that we're not beautiful!

It's not our fault that we don't fit the world.
