The car ride was silent, I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I checked my messages and it was Josh. ’Good morning’ he said.
“Crap” I muttered under my breath.
“What?” My mom asked me.
I just told her it was nothing important and ignored the message. I forgot I had to tell Josh the truth today. You see, this is why I like sleep, you just forget about everything for a little while. I wish I was sleeping right now.
My mom pulled up to the school and I sighed as I got out of the car, she kept talking about how she hopes my day at school will be great and she keeps telling me not to get in any trouble when in reality, I really couldn’t care less. There were a million other cars waiting for my mom to pull out already, I rather not go into school and have kids tease me for holding up the line of cars to talk to my mommy. I just smiled and told her I loved her, then shut the door.
I pulled the door then realized it said push, everyone behind me laughed. I smiled, trying to shake it off but it was more embarrassing than funny in my opinion. I walked through the school until I hit Mrs. Bider’s homeroom in the eighth grade hall. I didn’t see Josh yet today and I was searching everywhere for him so if I saw him I could hide myself. I took my seat and doodled on my notebook a bit while Mrs. Bider took attendance of the class.
“Abby our internet access seems to be down and I can’t e mail this to the office. Would you mind taking the attendance down for me?” Mrs. Bider asked me.
I nodded, walked to the front on the room, grabbed the attendance, and walked out the door. I got lost on my way to the office and bumped into a boy. He was tall, had brown hair that was held up by gel, and gorgeous green eyes. I dropped the attendance and froze. I just stared at him, he stared back with a smile then picked up the attendance and handed it to me.
“Hey Abby” Josh said as he stood in front of me.
“Hey” I replied as I looked at the ground and I walked around him and headed towards the office. He stopped me and said “Wait, you wanna sit with me at lunch today?”
“Yeah” I said quickly as I walked in the office and handed the secretary the attendance.
I walked out the doorway slowly, making sure Josh wasn’t nearby.
I went back to class, the day was pretty awkward so far. I didn’t talk to Josh or even look at him in science class. It was just too weird. Claire could sense I was uncomfortable, and to be honest, I was extremely uncomfortable.
“You’re telling him today, right?” Claire whispered to me.
I paused for a moment, then stuttered through my words “Yeah, I kind of have to.”
“Well how about we all sit next to each other at lunch and you can break the news to him” Claire suggested.
