*Emma’s Point of View*
(1 Week Later)
“Just call him and ask!” Tiffany urges. “Why are you nervous to?”
“I don’t know. I don’t want to sound clingy or annoying.”
“Some guys like clingy. Liam does.”
“Yeah well Liam’s Liam. I don’t think Niall is like that.”
“You’ve been dating him for three months! You should know by now!” she exclaims.
“Okay, okay. I’ll call him.” I say and select his contact in my phone. I put my fingers to my lips as I hear it ring.
“Hello?” says a deep voice.
“Hey, babe!” he replies. I feel my insides warm.
“Are we hanging again this weekend?”
“Yay! What do you want to do?” I ask.
“I don’t know, what do you want to do?”
“I asked you!” I almost shout into my phone. I hear Niall breathe on the other end. And yet again, we were having our usual fight about what to do this weekend.
“We could hang with the boys and Tiffany. Maybe watch a movie?”
“We did that last weekend!” I reply. “And the weekend before that, and the weekend before that!”
“So? It’s fun!” he replies, in his adorable Irish accent. “Do you not think it’s fun?”
“No, no I do! It’s just, we never hangout just the two of us. We are always double dating with Liam and Tiff, or hanging with Zayn, Harry, or Louis. It’s never just… us.”
I pause, not knowing what to say. “So, what do you want to do?” I ask, feeling the warmth go away. He’s going to think I’m clingy.
“Babe, it’s your choice.”
I give Tiffany a look and she raises her eyebrows. Why won’t he ever pick? I don’t want to make all the decisions!
“Well, we haven’t gone out to dinner in a long time.”
I’m getting impatient. “I have to go, Tiffany’s here. You pick, surprise me!” And with that, I hang up.
"So…?” Tiffany asks.
“Well that went great!” I say sarcastically.
“So maybe you guys are in a rut. Not a big deal. You just need to reconnect.”
“It’s been three months! Can people get into ruts that fast?” I ask.
“It’s possible, I guess.”
I sit on the bed next to her, slouching my shoulders.
“I don’t know. It just doesn’t feel the same between us.”
Tiffany puts her arm around me. “You’re not thinking about breaking up with him?”
“Hell no! Of course not!” I reply instantly.
“Well, then what are you thinking?”
“I don’t know. I don’t want to ask him because it didn’t go so well today, but I can’t just ignore this, can I? Maybe, when we go out to dinner, things will get better. But, I’m definitely not breaking up with him. I lo…” My voice trails off. I can’t finish the sentence.
“Do you love him?” she asks.
“I don’t know. I don’t think so. Not yet, anyway. Is that bad?”
“I have no idea.” She says, looking right at me.
“Do you love Liam?”
She looks away. “Of course! I have for a while now. But, Liam and I have been dating longer than you and Niall.”
“True.” I don’t know what to do. Should I ask Niall what’s going on? Surely, he must notice something too. What if he doesn’t and I end up hurting his feelings? Or what if he gets mad and calls me clingy?
“I can tell you are overanalyzing this. All you need to do is talk to him. He’s your boyfriend! You shouldn’t be afraid to talk to him!”
“Okay, okay. You made your point. I’ll talk to him.”
“Good,” she smiles. “Now answer this honestly. If Niall wasn’t a hot, famous member of a boy band, would you want to keep trying or would you have given up by now?”
“Of course I would keep trying! What kind of question is that?” I ask.
“I was just trying to get you thinking.” She says, sincerely.
I rethink Tiffany’s question. I honestly have no idea if I would stay or not. Maybe that should tell me something.
