Chapter 4: Don’t Tell
I whip around to see Louis mid step, he had stepped on a pile of dry leaves. My face immediately goes red with embarrassment.
“Louis! What are you doing here???” I say rather loudly.
“I was just going for a walk and I heard singing. I didn’t realise it was you Alyssa. I just wanted to see who it was. You have a beautiful voice.” he replies.
I stand up and walk towards him.
“Thank you for saying that but please don’t be one of those parents who tell their kids that their voice is amazing when it really sucks.” I start to walk past him but he catches my wrist.
“No, I really meant it. You should pursue singing.” He lets go of my wrist and I turn to him.
“I can’t. I already have my life planned out. I am going to school to be a social studies teacher.”
“You can always change that. Anyways, just think about it.”
“Wait what are you doing here? I thought you guys were on tour or something.”
“No, this is our last stop. Our show is in a week so we are staying here until around then.”
“Ok but that still doesn’t explain why you aren’t staying downtown. Normally people wouldn’t choose to say in the non-commercial part of a city.”
“You’re cold! Here come with me, our hotel isn’t far from here.” he says as he leads me to the sidewalk.
I realize that I was shaking from the cold. All I had on was some lululemon pants, a dry-fit shirt on and a thin workout sweater. I go with him until we reach the hotel. Its very old and small. I remember coming here with my parents when I was small for christmas dinner. As soon as we walk in the door, I feel the rush of heat and relax. I stop him before he goes to the elevators.
“Thank you Louis but please don’t tell anyone about me singing.” I say with pleading eyes.
“Just please.” I say cutting him off.
“Oh alright.” He replies looking defeated.
“I’m gonna go now..”
“I left Maddy at home alone... Not going to be good when she gets up.” I say while laughing.
“Ok well we can’t have that, can we? Hey, do you guys wanna go for a coffee when Maddy wakes up?”
“Sure, sounds good. Here’s my cell number. Want to meet at the Starbucks in the plaza with Nando’s at around 10?”
He agrees and we exchange numbers. I give him Maddy’s as well. We say goodbye and I start to run home. Once I get in the door, I yell “MADDY WAKE UP!”. She replies “ALREADY UP” to me from the kitchen. I go in and see her making eggs.
“Sorry I didn’t leave a note. I went for a jog.” I explain to her.
“That’s ok, I figured you were.” She replies with a laugh.
“Guess who I bumped into?”
“Who?” she asks
“Like THE Louis?? From One Direction??”
“Haha yea. The one we met last night at Nando’s. We are going out for coffee with all of them at around 10”
She turned around to look at the clock which read 9:00 am and cursed.
“YOU need to have shower! And quickly because the eggs will be done in less than 10 minutes.”
As I went for a shower, I thought about everything. From unexpectedly meeting One Direction to actually going to hang out with them. I need to make sure I don’t get too closely attached to any of them because they will not be here forever. They will be touring the world and live in Europe! There is no way any sort of relationship will last. I will not let myself fall for One Direction.
