The smell of the sea was intoxicating and my house was calling me. We had just pulled up to the Rotar Manor and my parents dropped Crina, Harry, and myself off at the front. We didn't have to worry about our bags because we would just have one of the workers bring them up to our rooms.
I looked over to Harry who was staring at my home with his mouth hung open. "Rue.. I knew you came from money but... This house... It's amazing!"
Crina and I laughed at him and I shut his jaw and proceeded to the front doors. Since Romania isn't really on the maps for tourism too much, everyone thinks the country is very poor. Which it kind of is, but not as bad as everyone thinks. It may not be as rich other western countries, but we get around. Yes, I know I grew up in a wealthy home, but not under a rock. When I was down here, I had friends who weren't as wealthy as we were.
I was standing in our entry way. The walls were tan. The staircase was still black and white. The chandelier was still twinkling and shiney. Everythin was just as I remembered.
I felt someone come up beside me and slip their arms around me. "Plan on giving me a tour?" Harry whispered in my ear, causing me to get goose bumps.
"Pick an area. Left, right, upstairs, the cellar, the sea. You know I'm terrible with making decisions!"
He laughed and me and said to start with the cellar, that we can just work our way up. So, I grabbed his hand and led him off to the right. There was a hallway filled with pictures of the Rotar blood line, many of them were paintings. The walls were also the the light tan as the entry way and while there were no windows, it was still bright and open.
"So, are you leading me down to Dracula's Lair?" Harry said with sarcasm.
We were standing infront of the old wooden door that lead to our cellar. I gave him a glare out of the side of my eyes and said "yeah, I haven't heard that before!" Giving him more sarcasm than I recieved.
Harry started laughing again, which easily broke my serious face and caused me to start to laugh almost as uncomtrollably as him. "Come on, you!" I shouted to him as I left him and ran down to the cellar.
I guess this turned into a game of hide and seek in my cellar because he started chasing after me and I hide and he... Seeked me? That certainly doesn't make it seem weird!
"Rue! It's dark and I have no idea where anything is! At least make a noise!"
I heard him calling desperately to me. I hadn't turned the light on when I ran past it. 'This was my oppourtunity to get him!' I thought to myself.
I crept out of my hiding spot and started crawling towards him. It was dark, but not pitch black so I could see his outline. I was right beside him without him even noticing me. I reached out to grab his ankle when he took a step in my direction and nearly stepped on me before he fell over and was sprawled out on top of me on the ancient dirt floor.
"Rue! Why were you right there! Are you okay? Am I still on you? Where were you!?"
I started to laugh uncontrollably again because of all his questions and concerns. It was nice to have someone care for me the way he did. "What is so funny!? I practically step on you and you're laughing!" I could hear the laughter in his voice that he was trying to hide.
"I was trying to scare you! And you turned... and-and I was right... You fell on me... And here we are!" I said between my laughing fit.
"Are you okay?" Harry asked me when we were finished laughing, which was about two minutes later.
"Yeah, I'm fine... Harry, you know you're still on me, right?"
I could see Harry's face contort into a small smirk. "I know."
"Do you think you should get off me?"
"That's just lovely, then!" So we laid there. I'm pretty sure I fell asleep for about ten minutes. We were there for about thirty minutes. Just sitting there. It was one of those rare moments where nothing needs to be said, just because you're actions are speaking for you.
Our hands were intertwined and eventually Harry rolled off of me so we were laying beside each other, not touching except our hands. Both of us were observing the other, even in the darkness.
"My family is going to be wondering where we're at, Harry," I said with an exhausted tone.
"Mhm..." I could tell he had fallen asleep.
My eyes were still closed, but I released his hand sat up, stretching and ruffling my hair. I didn't want to deal with it so I threw it up in a bun. It was then that I noticed both of us were still in our clothes that we wore on the plane, jeans and a band tee for both of us, Wombats for me and him in Arctic Monkeys.
"Come on, let's go get ready. You are going to be meeting most of my family tonight."
Harry moved his hand to face and rolled over on his back while rubbing his eyes. "How long have we been down here for?"
"I have no idea, but I'd have to say around an hour."
Harry gave a tired chuckle and said "who knew Dracula's Lair could be so comfortable?"
I gave him a little shove and rolled my eyes, even though I knew he wouldn't see, and got up to go back upstairs, stopping at the stair case to wait for Harry.
