Popularity or Love?
"I swear if I ever see that fucking little asshole I am going to pound him into the ground. Who the fuck does that little faggot think he is! He just goes and kisses Ellie, like she's single." I rant to Justin who only shakes his head at me laughing.
"Maybe because it was a party and she is single?" He asks raising an eyebrow at me before taking another bite of his apple.
"She is..." I said my voice slowly fading at the end realizing that she in fact was single.
"What I am going to do she probably hates me now." I state throwing my head back in frustration. I had just driven Ellie away without even trying. I had let my ego get the best of me and now Ellie hated me. I still had her face engraved in my brain her eyes dark with anger as she rips her hand away from my touch. I had acted like a possessive freak and she was probably never going to talk to me again.
"Shay she has you whipped!" Justin said laughing as threw his apple away and sat down across from me on the island in the kitchen.
"SHANE!" My half sister's voice echoes down the walls as she walks in with her friend Nadine.
"What?" I ask peeking my head out the doorway of the kitchen.
"Can you make us food?" She ask slightly giving me puppy eyes as I sigh and nod my head.
"Wow! Even your sister has you whipped." Justin said earning a hateful glare from Natalie.
"Nadine, do you want to slap him or should I?" She asks smirking at my best friend whose eyes were showing fear. Nadine just laughs and waves her hands signaling that she was walking out of this argument. She walks around to the side of the island I was sitting at and smiles at me.
"So Nadine what are you guys in the mood for?" I ask pushing myself off the island as Natalie smacks Justin on the side of the head for calling my whipped.
"It's not Shay's fault that he fell in love with Elizabeth! She is a very nice person who is perfect for my brother and he needs someone like her after-" The doorbell seems to cut her off as Nadine screams that she'll get it. She spent so much time her along with Justin that they were like part of the family. My mom even sets them a place at the table every meal since she knows that if one of us is here then so are they. We all stay quiet as Nadine welcomes someone into the house and soon two pair of footsteps walk into the house. One of was Nadine's since she was wearing Vans her footsteps where almost silent. While whoever had just arrived was wearing heels since you could hear the clicking of the heels against the floor. I went through a list of girls that could be coming over and most of Natalie's friends were crossed off, since they almost never came over besides Nadine.
"He's in the kitchen." Nadine said to the mystery girl as they arrived closer to the kitchen. Suddenly a though came to mind as I straightened up and tried to look somewhat busy which cause my sister and Justin to stare at me weirdly. I was pretty sure Ellie sometimes wore heels and she is one of the only girls who would ever come and visit me. As Nadine walks in the conversation between Natalie and Justin had fallen silent as I look up to see who it was. My heart fell as I saw that it wasn't Ellie who stood in front of me, but Audrey.
"Hey Audi!" Justin screeches getting up of his seat and running up. When he reached her, he pulled her into a tight hug and kissed her cheek. I saw anger rushing in my veins as I saw them laugh together in front of me. I had imagine myself doing the very same thing with Ellie today. I was going to invite her over and we could have a lazy day at my house. Since yesterday was Friday, we could have spent the weekend whole day here at my house cuddled together on the couch.
"Shane, can I ummm...talk to you?" Audrey's question bringing me back into reality as I stare at her. I look at Justin who is looking at Audrey almost with love? I had to question him about that later, but since he clearly wasn't paying attention he was going to be no help with my current problem. I wanted to go talk to Audrey to ask her about Ellie, but I was also afraid that she would come here to tell me off. I have seen many girl's best friends come and tell Justin off for hooking up with them and leaving afterwards. I hadn't hooked up with Ellie, or even kissed her even though I carved to do so. My mind quickly started to go through a list of reason on why Audrey was here wanting to talk to me.
"Sure." I found myself responded before my mind could even come up with an answer. She waves for me to follow her down the hallway into the living room. She wore a simple dress with heels, her hair down in waves. I could see why Justin had a little secret crush on Audrey.
“Shane what you did yesterday was completely unacceptable.” Audrey starts looking straight into my eyes as I avoid hers. I knew that what I had done was wrong, taking control of Ellie's actions as if we were together. I knew that my actions had taken me ten steps further to the place I wanted to be at. She hates me enough to make Audi come here to talk to me, enough to completely avoid not only my calls, but my texts. This was slowly killing me from the inside out and there nothing I could do to fix this.
"I know, it's just that kid pisses me off so much." I said throwing myself down on the couch as Audi comes and sits to me. "Where is she?" I ask looking up at the at the cream colored ceiling. Audi stayed completely quiet and copied my actions without responding.
"Where is she?" I ask again a bit more urgently this time. Audi only closes her eyes and sighs loudly before opening her eyes.
"I don't know." She says quietly almost as if it pained her to say so. I stare at her wide eyed as she looking straight ahead deep in thought.
"What do you mean you don't know!?" I ask quickly standing up and looking at her hoping I heard wrong.
"I don't know where she's at...she left with Liam after they dropped me off and I tried texting and calling her but she's not answering. So I thought that maybe she came here to come fix things with you, but ummm...I was wrong. So I don't know where she's at." She says with sadness and guilty lacing her words as she spoke. I fall back onto the couch and let my hands run through my hair that was still untamed from sleep. My headache that had been pounding a few hours ago had faded into a faint sting. After I had gotten home I found out my parents had left on a small trip to out of the country for a few weeks. My dad always kept a large supply of liquor in the house for parties and celebrations. When I ha arrived home it had been calling me to and drink after drink soon my anger and frustration had seemed to become a dull memory. I had no memories of anything after about the fourth drink, but now the cravings of another drink where starting to call me. She was missing and if she wasn't answering Audi's calls, then I knew she wasn't going to answer mine.
"It's worth a shot." I said digging my phone out of my pocket and typing in the number that I was yet to become familiar with. I held the phone to my ear listening to ringing as my nerves seemed to keep building up as it rung. Soon the ringing stops and for that moment so does my breathing; she had answered my call.
"Hello?" Her sweet voice asked pausing for a response which I quickly talk back.
"Ellie! Thank God you're oka-" I was cut off by her soft laughter, which confused me to look over at Audi. She had a soft, pitiful expression on her face as she stared at her phone.
"Wow! You fell for that? Haha! Well...I can't answer the phone right now so just leave me a message and I'll call you back soon. Love you! Mwah!" She said giggling before the beeping signaling to record your message sounded.
"Ellie, it's Shay. I was just wondering if you were okay and if you could call me or Audi because we are both really worried. Love you call back soon." I said into the phone and hanging up before realizing what I had said. Not only Audi but my eyes go wide at my confession which had just slipped out of my mouth.
"If she doesn't call you back I am going to kill her." She said before a wave of silence fell over us.
"Umm...I should probably get going." Audrey says shyly before tucking a strand of her brown hair behind her ear.
"No, I am making lunch we can eat and then we'll head out to look for Ellie." I said confidently as I led her back into the kitchen which was silent. I go straight to the fridge to grab everything out to make a quick lunch for all of us. I was washing off vegetables for a quick stir fry that my mom taught me to make. She ha been a single mom for most of my life and only a few years ago she got remarried to my step dad. Out of three of her kids Cristian was her little man and I was her little baby boy. I was the one who was always by her side and the only one who learned to cook decently. I was cutting up some bell peppers when Justin’s phone suddenly goes off and he frowns at the scream. He excuses himself and goes in the direction of the living room as his voice floats through the quiet house. Soon a name is mention and my muscles tense in anger at the name that he mentions.
“No Court I haven’t seen him since last night, when he was with Ellie.” He pauses probably to let Courtney speak. “FINE! ELIZABETH WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL HER! NO SHE’S MISSING!” He yells into the phone which causes all to look at the hallway he disappeared into. “NO! SHE’S MISSING JUST LIKE YOUR BROTHER!” He shouts making my mind start thinking of all the things that could have gone wrong. “How the hell do you expect me to know where Ell-ELLIE I AM CALLING HER ELLIE! Well, how the fuck do you expect me to know where Ellie lives? What do I look like her stalker!” he shouts into the phone as he walks back into the kitchen where Audi was scrambling for her keys off the counter. I pick them up with ease and run to the door with her right behind me. I knew exactly where Ellie lived and I knew that I sounded like a stalker, but I didn’t care at this point. All that mattered was seeing Ellie perfectly safe and hopefully alone with Liam no where near by.
