11. Another dull chapter of life
In hospital again. I hated hospitals and that strong feeling of dislike was even greater after my confrontation with the clock people. What I had to work out, I thought as I lay pretending to be still asleep so they wouldn't turn off the warm air, was whether the girl I had seen killed was one of the clock people. It wasn't her voice so it shouldn’t have been but on the other hand it would make sense, she died alone, thus being lonely. But were the clock people lonely? There were three of them, three separate voices, three separate chilling nursery rhymes... “It blinked, definitely blinked.” “Please Ms Dales, she’s been through a lot and she’s got the extra struggle now of starting at a new school a few weeks later than everyone else. Almost every child would struggle with this, don’t give her a hard time, its not her fault.” I heard the nurse’s heels clipping away into the hall. “I know your awake pig.” My eyes flew open to see her beady eyes peering into my soul. Her hot breath riddled with the definite stench of spirits (both kinds) heavy in my face. She spoke again in a low whisper. “This is getting silly now girl. If I have to bring you back here once again apart from when these incompetent doctors force me, your not going to this beloved school of yours. You can forfeit everything do you understand me?” she left no space for me to reply, she just stood, grabbed a half empty bottle of whiskey from her bag and waddled out the door.
