36. chapter 35

We walked out as soon as we were done singing. My mom looked at me. I was already smiling. I just acted like she weren’t there.

Jake: Good, Allie warm up a bit more your voice is falling out in the high tones. We’re taking a song that might help you. The one that got away, Peyton it’s your version we’re taking.

Peyton: good.

Peyton hugged me from behind.

Peyton: are you okay?

Allie: Yeah I just gotta clear out my mind.

Peyton: remember we’re in this together.

Allie: yeah.

I took his hand and walked inside of the room with him.

Jake: you’re on. Allie, just take a deep breath.

I did but it didn’t help me much but when Peyton took my hand and we started signing together it helped me. I always did better when someone was holding my hand.

Peyton: you can do this babe.

Allie:

In another life

I would be your girl

We keep all our promises

Be us against the world

In another life

I would make you stay

So I don’t have to stay

You were the one that got away

The one that got away

I did it. I was doing this at my best.

Jake: great Allie! Brilliant! Peyton come on out here. Allie it’s time to show us something you’re really good at. Which one do you want?

Allie: Ordinary girl.

The music for my favorite song started playing.

Allie: wait I’m gonna change that. It’s time to do something that’s a bit harder. I’m gonna sing when you look at me.

The music changed and the lyrics came up on a screen inside of my room. It was time to show something that I had been practicing on for a long time.

Alle:

Everybody needs inspiration, everybody needs a song

Beautiful melody, when the nights so long

‘cause there is no guarantee, that this life is easy

When my world is falling apart

When there’s no light to break up the dark

That’s when I, I, I look at you

When the waves are flooding the shore

And I can’t find my way home anymore

That’s when I, I, I look at you.

I breathed out and stepped out to the other, I looked at my mom. She didn’t know that I could sing like that because I had never done something like this song in front of her. She knew I was good but not this good because this was something I had learned over here.

Jake: Fantastic! You did really amazing! I’m gonna sent that to Miley.

Allie: thanks Jake.

Jake: Dylan it’s your turn.

While Dylan was singing I went out in the hallway to speak with my mom. I was smiling all over the face as if I had just been singing in front of a whole crowd.

Allie: You see this is where I belong? This is what’s making me happy. I’ve never been able to sing that song and you know that! I can sing it now. I’m finally singing with my heart and soul.

Mom: You did amazing hun. I have never seen anyone like this. But you’ll still have to come with me home.

Allie: Didn’t you hear me? Didn’t you see me? This is my home. This is where I was born to be. I’m not just some ordinary girl anymore mom. I’m gonna make this. I can do this. Wait till you’ve seen me this Sunday because I know I can do this.

We walked into the studio again. We were working until it was getting really late. I didn’t want to do anything else today but Jake told me that I wasn’t getting off until it was 10pm. It was nine when I was almost sleeping on Austin’s shoulder. Peyton was working and I was so tired. Peyton seemed a bit annoyed about the fact that I was lying on Austin but he knew how I was feeling about him.

Austin: Are you okay?

Allie: yeah I’m just really tired… and I have a headache.

Austin: wanna get some fresh air?

Allie: yeah…

Austin: Jake I’m taking Allie outside, she needs some fresh air.

Jake: sure, just don’t be outside too long.

Austin: sure…

Allie: thanks.

We walked out and stood outside the studio. It was a bit cold so Austin gave me his hoodie.

Allie: I’m not freezing.

Austin: you’re cold, take it on.

Allie: no.

He laid his hoodie around my shoulders and sat down on the ground beside me.

Austin: You did really well today. Make sure you’re ready for Sunday. You’ll have to rest a bit tomorrow. You have to kick ass this Sunday. Promise me!

Allie: if you will sing with me I’ll promise you to do the best I can.

Austin: I will always sing with you.

I took his hand and looked him in the eyes.

Allie: you’re a true friend Austin. I’m glad I have someone like you.

He smiled and kissed me on the cheek.

Austin: you too Allie.

Camille walked out shortly after.

Allie: You okay Camille?

Camille: yeah I just needed some fresh air.

She looked at me and Austin. I let go of Austin’s hand and looked at her.

Allie: don’t tell Peyton.

I spoke in Danish when I said that because I knew Austin wouldn’t understand what I was saying.

Camille: sure.

I got up and was about to go back in. It was over soon. Austin stopped me.

Austin: what did you say to her?

Allie: nothing.

Austin: You mentioned Peyton. Did you tell her not to say that you held my hand?

Allie: Austin, just leave it. I’m not gonna tell you what I said.

Austin: fine.

He was a bit annoyed when I spoke about him and his friends in Danish but I wasn’t going to translate for him.

We walked back in to hear the song that we all recorded together earlier as the last thing before we all went to where we were going to stay for the night.

Jake: We are going to work for about 3 hours tomorrow. It’s only gonna be practicing. I’m picking you up at 1pm. Be ready.
