Quickly I jumped out of the car. Harry sat frozen in his seat. I could understand why. He had just hit a person.
"Ohmygosh!" I said, running over to a girl lying face down on the road. "Are you okay?" I kneeled down and tried to turn her over. Harry hadn't hit her hard, just enough to knock her off of her feet. She looked a little shaken up. Tears started to fall from her eyes.
Her bright red hair was tied into a braid, but some strands had come undone. Her eyes were a bright green, lighter than Harry's and looked at me with pleading eyes. "Hey," I soothed. "It's alright, you're gonna be fine."
She nodded and tried to stand up. Her legs wobbled and she collapsed again. "I-I can't walk." I noted she had a British accent. But part of it sounded Irish. I assumed she had some Irish heritage as she had red hair and green eyes.
"That's fine, don't strain yourself. What's your name?" I asked gesturing to Harry to come out here and help me.
"I'm Nellie O'Bannon." She said. Definitely Irish. I noticed she had a large scrape on her forehead. Blood trickled out of it and I guessed it was the result of the fall she took on the dirt road. Probably not comfortable.
By now Harry was with me and had scooped Nellie off the ground. She clutched her head.
"I'm so sorry," Harry said setting her in the backseat. "Don't worry, we aren't kidnapping you. We are taking you somewhere we can get you help."
"I recognize you." Nellie said as we started driving. "I don't know from where though."
Harry and I exchanged a look. His eyes told me everything I needed to know. We would explain everything to Nellie after she got looked at. She needed help right now.
The drive was about twenty minutes. Finally! We were here! Harry had taken us to a cabin in the middle of a forest. It was really quite beautiful.
Harry caught me in awe and smiled. "There's even a stream around the back."
I ran to him and pecked him on the cheek. "You're amazing!"
"The surprise isn't over yet!" He walked to the trunk while I attempted to get Nellie out of the car. He pulled out two suitcases. "We're staying here for the week!"
I laughed and Nellie gripped my shoulder. "In pain here!" She reminded us. Now returning back to our senses, we both helped Nellie limp into the cabin.
"It extends back. There are five rooms." Harry said as we walked into what I guessed was the living room. It had a fireplace and a cozy cream colored sofa. We set Nellie in one of the bar stools that were facing the breakfast bar of the kitchen across the room. Harry went to the fridge to get some ice for Nellie's head, while I went to explore.
"Last door on the right!" Harry called after me. I nodded and grabbed my suitcase. The wood paneling on the walls made the cabin seem so homey and welcoming. I finally made it to the room that Harry had indicated was ours. I turned the knob slowly and couldn't imagine what it would look like.
"Happy Birthday, Hallie!" The remainder of One Direction was standing in the room, each with their appropriate girlfriends. Excluding Niall of course.
"We get to stay here with you!" Eleanor exclaimed running up to me and giving me a hug.
I stood in awe at everyone and what they had done for me. "Wow, guys! I forgot it was my birthday!" They all laughed. Suddenly someone's hands were around my waist.
"Happy Birthday, love," Harry said and as I turned to look at him he pressed his lips against mine.
"Oh, get a room!" Louis laughed, pretending to look away.
We all laughed again as Niall came over to me with a box. "This is your gift," he said, "from all of us. But open it quick so we can get cake!"
Tenderly I took the box from him. It was small enough to fit jewelry, but too large for a bulky necklace. I opened it slowly. Sitting on top of red satin was a key. A room key to be exact. On the tag it said, 'Room 870.'
"What is this?" I asked turning to Harry. "You guys didn't..." I looked at all of their faces. They were all smiling. "Is this?" I asked Harry.
He nodded. "It's a penthouse suite in our complex. Little birdie told me that you got a new apartment and it was a little run-down. So we decided, why not get you a whole new one?"
I stared at all of them. "You did this, for me?"
Liam nodded. "It is your eighteenth birthday."
"I love you all so much!" I said, now excited. I ran around the room, giving them all hugs. "Wait," I said, pausing and turning to Harry. "You said in your complex. You guys live in Britain."
Harry looked down at his feet. "The penthouse is in... Britain."
I paused to take all this in. Everyone looked at me waiting for a response. "I--I need to think about this." I sat down on the bed.
"You don't have to if you don't want to." Harry said joining me on the bed and rubbing my back.
Disrupting my thoughts, Nellie stumbled into the room. "Oh, sorry."
Niall's eyes suddenly grew extremely wide. "Nellie? Nellie O'Bannon?"
"Niall?" Nellie's eyes mimicked his.
We all stood silent looking at the two of them. I was baffled. How did Nellie know Niall?
Nellie? Childhood Nellie? Why was she here?
"I thought I would never see you again," I said, looking at her carefully. She had gotten much prettier than she was when we had been six. Her usually frizzy red curly hair was now tied into a pretty braid. The strands that hung down made her eyes stand out. Wow, her eyes. They sparkled like emeralds. Her cute freckles just covered her nose and under her eyes, but it still made her look beautiful.
"Me neither," She said and her pink lip glossed lips turned up into a smile. "You've changed."
I gestured for the boys to leave the room. They all left swiftly, understanding what I wanted.
"Well, it's been almost thirteen years now." I smiled playfully.
She crossed her arms over her chest. She wore a loose fitting white t-shirt and dark skinny jeans. On her feet she sported TOMS. "There's something about you, Niall." She took a step forward to me. "I just, don't know how to explain it. Part of me never let you go."
"Well, when you moved to Britain, I missed you like hell. But as time went on, things took over. You've always had a special spot in my heart, Nellie. Now it's aching to be with you again."
"Are you sure my place has never been touched? Cause I've heard Demi Lovato also had a special spot in your heart." She laughed and pushed my shoulder. My cheeks turned a bright red. "Oh, Niall. Ease up. I'm just teasing."
I laughed. "I've missed you, Nellie."
She laughed and took a step in. Now we were inches apart. "Prove it."
Then my mouth was moving in rhythm with hers. Her fingers ran through my hair, and my arms held her to me. She smiled against my lips before she pulled away.
"Point taken." Then she grabbed her ice pack she had left on the dresser and walked out of the room.
I stood there, alone, baffled. What had just happened?
