The Watcher

Lilac King is a normal girl. She couldn't imagine a better life than she has now. But one night that all changes. Her mom gets a call from the police. It's her father. He was killed in a horrific accident. Lilac is curious as to who would do such a terrible thing to her father. Her father had never done anything to make anyone want to hurt him. As Lilac races to find out answers to her father's sudden death, she may not be the only one after answers.

7. Chapter 7:

“Mom?!” I asked, still embarrassed beyond words.

Her mom looked around to see if anyone else was behind her, “Uhh…yeah. Last I checked I was your mother. Lilac, Honey…are you…okay?”

Lilac, suddenly aware of how dumb she must have looked staring at her mother like she had never seen her before in her life, said, “Huh?..Umm yeah. Yeah . No….I mean-“ she paused, then started again, “I am fine.”

Her mother looked at her strangely, “you know that you can come to be about anything , right?”

“Yes mom, I know that. I am fine, really. You don’t have to worry. I’m fine. I am going to uh, go upstairs and do my homework.”

“Okay. I will start dinner in a little while. I will call you down when it’s ready. Okay?”

“Okay” Lilac responded as she jogged up the steps to her bedroom.

As soon as she got inside, she closed her door quietly. Then she ran over to the side of her bed and got on her hands and knees so that she could see beneath the bed. She reached under her bed and pulled out her pink backpack that was lying underneath the bed frame, and threw it on top of her bed. She quickly un-zipped it and double-checked the contents that still remained on the inside. Lilac then went to her vanity table across from her bed, and grabbed her wallet, bottled water, and her phone, and tossed them into her backpack. She forced the zippers shut and swung the bag onto her back. She then stuffed some pillows underneath her comforter and headed for her window. She quietly shoved her window open, and expertly slid out the window and onto the roof. She scaled her way down the side of the house, avoiding windows. She was very pleased with herself when she made it safely to the ground.

Lilac gently wiped herself off, trying to look as clean as a runaway could look. Then she ran. Her plan was to make it to Mount Liliana and go for a hike to clear her head. It would be quite the hike there. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to come back. She didn’t feel safe at home anymore. Not after the dream. She wasn’t sure where she was going to go and where she felt safe but she would find that place. Eventually.
