The careers

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send a boy and a girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live tv Sixteen year old Larah Thors regards it as a death sentence when she volunteers to take her boyfriends sister place in the Hunger Games and her boyfriend,Cato, gets chosen aswell. Fighting for both Cato and Larah is second nature. They are natural contenders being from district 2. Things may crumble when both Cato and Larah fight to keep each other alive. And to save the other they must sacrifice their own life. But to save him she will have to make choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love. There can only be one winner

7. Training

We arrived at the training centre the next morning and all us tributes stood in a cirlce surrounding a tall slim woman named Atala. She began to explain the training schedule. She went through the list of stations we were aloud to go to. We were not aloud to engage in any combative exercise with any other tribute. We were aloud to go off and headed straight to the knives. Most districts liked to keep their skill a secret but the careers liked to intimidate the rest of the districts. I looked over at Cato who was at the swords. I had finished with the knives and went over to the district 1 girl. "Hey. I'm Larah," I said to her. Her eyes flitted down to the number on my arm and she smiled. "Glimmer," she said. We talked for a little bit. About the skills we were good at. She was really pretty. Long, blonde hair, pale skin, big blue eyes, tall. Then Cato and the boy from 1 came over. "Marvel," he said shaking my hand. "Larah," I replied. Cato and Glimmer did the same thing. My eyes glanced over at the girl from 12. I think her name was Katniss Everdeen. She was tying some knots with rope. I turned back to the careers. "Nice climbing... not," Marvel said and we all turned to see what he was talking about. Over at the rope net was the boy from 12. Peeta Mellark. He was failing miserably. It was actually quite funny. He fell off. That's when Glimmer and I cracked up laughing. Marvel and Cato was smiling at him cockily. Not in a good way. I loved it when Cato had that smile. Katniss walked over to him and said something in his ear, causing him to glance at us. That made me laugh harder. I slowly stopped laughing and crossed my arms, smiling cockily. He got up and walked over to the weights. He picked one up and was about to throw it. "This should be interesting," I said to the others. I raised my eyebrow at him waiting for him to throw it. He swung his arm and threw it. I flew across the room and landed on the arrows. Th arrows all  fell to the floor and the tray moved across the floor. "That was alright. I can do that," Cato said. I just laughed and went back to training. This year we would not be allies with 4. They were both kids. They would only slow us down. The boy from 4 was really cute though. With his curly blonde hair and big blue eyes. I hope that it wasn't one of us that killed him. After all, he was from an ally district. The rest of the day was exhausting. We spent all day in the training centre laughing at the other tributes and intimidating the others. Today we intimidated the others, tomorrow we showed the games makers what we could do and the day after that we actually learnt something. We got back to the room and had dinner. I was famished. I had a big bowl of lamb stew and some scones. I absoloutely loved the scones. We were in Catos room when I said "I reckon, that Katniss is the one to beat." "Definetly. She's the first one on my to-kill list," Cato replied. I smiled and shook my head. He walked over to me and wrapped his arms around my waist. "This will probably be one of our last times alone together again," I said. "Yeah, but your going to live Larah. I will make sure of that," he said lifting my chin with his finger so that I looked him in the eyes. "No. Your going to live," I argued. "Larah, please don't do this," he pleaded. "Cato, I can't live without you. So why try?" I asked. "Because I would rather die than be without you. And I won't let you die," Cato said. "Fine," I whispered looking away. I can never look people in the eye when I'm lying. "Larah, I know your lying. You always look at the corner of your eye when you lie. I'm not an idiot," he said. Damn it! "I'm not lying," I said trying to look at him. It was really hard. But I managed to look at his nose. He dropped it though even though he knew I was lying. "Fine," he gave in. I wrapped my arms around his neck and looked at his blue eyes. He looked down at me with the saddest look I'd ever seen on his face. "I love you," I whispered. "I love you too," he whispered back. He leaned down and pressed his lips to mine. One hand on the small of my back and the other on the back of my neck. My fingers were playing with his hair at the bottom of his neck. He pressed me closer to him with the hand on the small of my back. My heart beating a million times per second. After a while we parted. We were both puffed and gasping for air. I went and got into the bed and so did he. My head was resting on his chest and his arm wrapped around my waist. I slowly drifted into a peacefull sleep.
