7. Signing day

Wafa’s POV

The mall was super crowded; girls were everywhere, screaming, singing, and some even crying. It was complete madness.

“Wafa, do you want me to keep your jacket?” My Dad asked. I looked at my reflection in the glass door, the puffy jacket made me look even fatter. I quickly unzipped it and handed it to my Dad.

“Thanks.” I replied.

“Oh my gosh! I’m so excited, come on!” Madison, one of my other friends tugged at my arm.

“Dad, we’re going to be shopping after the signing, so I’ll see you then alright?” I said before following Madison to the line.

I wish Emily was here, but she failed her science test so her mom wouldn’t let her come. She had to pull up her grades before she could do anything. Madison was another good friend of mine, and I decided to ask her, since I didn’t want to go alone.

“Do you think Niall remembers you?” She said trying to get a glance at the boys, over some of the girls’ heads.

“I don’t know. I did leave a lasting impression on him, falling on top of him like that.” I laughed thinking about how many times I had fallen over the poor guy.

“What would you do if he remembers you?” Madison asked poking my arm.

“I don’t know, I think I would be extremely happy that my favourite guy remembers me. It would make my life.” I smiled.

I looked around at the other girls standing in line. It was about -12 degrees outside and most of them were in short miniskirts, or dresses. I on the other hand was wearing a warm fleece hoodie with jeans and my fake uggs. I didn’t really have time to put on a lot makeup, so I just put on some eyeliner and mascara. These other girls were caked in foundation, eye shadow, and lip gloss.

The line moved up, we were almost at the table now. I tightened my grip around my CD as the girls in front of me went up to Zayn. He smiled at them then signed their CD and they moved to Harry. My turn was next, I took a deep breath and approached Zayn. “Hi” I squeaked.

“Hi.” Zayn looked up but didn’t smile, he quickly scribbled his name onto my CD then passed it over to Harry.

“Hello there!” Harry said enthusiastically without looking up, he was mainly paying attention to the girls behind me. The girls whose boobs were hanging out of their tops, the girls dressed as sluts. Harry passed the CD on and I moved over to Liam.

“Hey there! What’s your name?” Liam asked smiling. I could always count on Liam to treat the fans right.

“Wafa.” I said blushing he was so much cuter in person. The pictures didn't do him justice.

“Okay Wafa- Wait… Your names Wafa? Like the Wafa on the train in England?” He asked, I looked at him my jaw dropped. How did he know I was on a train in England?! Liam opened his mouth to say something else but the guard behind him cut him off.

“Liam we have to keep the line moving, miss please move on.” He ordered. I waved to Liam then moved in front of Louis. Liam tapped him on the shoulder and whispered something in his ear, Louis’ smile turned into a large grin.

“So Babe, your Wafa.” He grinned. He whipped his hand back then flung it at Niall’s chest.

“OUCH LOUIS WHAT THE-” Niall stopped mid sentence as soon as his eyes locked with mine. “Wafa?! Oh my gosh what are you doing here?!” Niall stood up, knocking his chair down.

“Oh uhm, I came all the way from Toronto to see you guys.” I blushed again. Niall Horan remembered me!

“Whoa! That’s so far away! You came all that way just to see us?” Niall asked touched.

“Yeah, I really am a huge fan of you guys, you’ve helped me through a lot.” I smiled.

“Really? Oh that’s great, I’m happy our music helped you out.”

“How did the other boys know about me?” I asked wondering about the way Liam and Louis were acting.

“I told the boys about you, how we met on the train and-” The guard behind him cut Niall off. Wow these guards hated the boys interacting with fans didn' they?

“Miss, please you keep holding up the line, this is unacceptable please move on.” The guard motioned for me to move away from the table.

“Hey can’t you see I’m talking to her?” Niall said a little  irritated.

“I’ve seen you talk to a lot of girls, and it’s really holding up the line.” The guard grabbed the signed CD and handed it to me. “Now please go.” He ordered.

“Wait no, she doesn’t have to go.” Niall said touching my arm. A guard grabbed my shoulder from behind and pulled me away.

“You need to follow instructions.” He said roughly.

Madison was waiting for me by the pole; she had seen the whole thing and was grinning widely. “I cannot believe he remembers you!” She said as I approached her.

“I know! And he told the others about me!” I said hugging her.

“And he didn’t want you to leave! Wafa oh my gosh this is so great!” She squealed hugging me back. “I am so happy for you!”

Niall’s POV

I couldn’t believe the guards; they were honestly pissing me off. It was complete rubbish that they never really let us talk to our fans. They just pushed them away from us, the line was being held up. Oh who cares about that? People would rather wait in line longer to actually have a chat with us, rather than wait in line and only get a quick hello. I wish the management would take some of our advice and tell the guards to back off.

“Are you okay mate?” Louis asked placing a hand on my shoulder.

“Yeah man, it’s just I wanted to talk to her.” I said looking over at the remaining girls in line. There was only a small group of girls left. I couldn’t wait to finish signing these CD’s I just wanted some breathing space, away from the guards and all these crazy fans.

“Hey, maybe she’s still in the mall.” Louis smiled.

“You think?” I said signing the girls CD and handing it to her.

“Yeah, perhaps she’s shopping? Let’s all look for her after we finish. This mall can’t be that big.” Louis grinned.

“Really Lou? You’ll do that for me?” I looked up at him in smiled.

“Of course mate! I think it’s fate that you met her on the train, and then you saw her here.” Louis laughed.

“Thanks.” I said. Having the boys care for me so much felt great. Management didn’t let me do many things. They were taking away my mics during concerts, forcing me to just play the guitar, and if I did get a mic then it would have a really low volume. I felt like I wasn’t really a part of the band and that I didn’t belong. But then the boys would always do something to make me feel like I did belong, and that I was wanted. Harry switched mics with me once, that really pissed management off and Harry got a huge lecture about it, but he didn’t care. He said he did the right thing and that management needed to check over what they were doing.

We finished signing the last few CD’s then the guards told us to go back to the van. Louis was the first to speak, “No, we’re going to look for that girl you guys pushed away.” He grabbed my arm leading me away.

“Who? That fat girl?” The guard snickered. I turned around and punched him hard in the face. How dare he say that?!

“You have no right to call any girl fat. She’s beautiful, you need to shut up and respect girls.” I spat at him then followed Louis away. The rest of the boys just stood there motionless not knowing what to do.

Liam came running after me, “Hey Niall, uhm how are we supposed to find her? I mean think practically.” Liam said nervously.

“Liam I don’t know, I just want to find her. Can you help me with that?” I asked.

“Yes of course I’ll help you.” Liam called over to Zayn and Harry and they both jogged over.

“Why don’t you call John, ask him to keep a lookout too?” Zayn suggested.

“Good idea, he said he would be waiting by Starbucks, I’ll go talk to him.” I quickly walked over to the Starbucks near the front of the mall. I spotted John at one of the tables with a girl. She seemed familiar but I didn’t quite know where she was from. “Cassie?” I said as I got closer to the table. Cassie was one of my really good friends when I lived in Ireland, she moved to Canada when I was in The X-Factor and I never saw her after that.

“Oh my gosh Niall!” She got up and hugged me. “You’ve changed so much!”

“What are you doing here?” I asked taking a seat at the table.

“Well I heard you were going to be in Montreal and I live right across from this mall so I thought maybe I might bump into you. I was just getting something at Starbucks and I spotted John. We started talking and he said that he was here with you so I should wait with him for you and yeah! Here I am.” She giggled.

“Oh Cassie that’s just fantastic! I can’t believe you’re here we’ve all had some great memories together.” I laughed.

“Oh tell me about it!” John laughed, “Remember the time she said that mascara made us more masculine?” John asked.

“Oh ha! That was hilarious! I can’t believe you guys actually walked around wearing mascara!” Cassie laughed.

Cassie told John and I that if we wore mascara it would make us look more masculine and our eyes wouldn’t look so much like girls. She said that after making fun of how girly our eyes were and that we needed some more boyishness in them. So then she helped us apply mascara to the lashes and she said we had to keep it on for a couple of days for it to take effect. Well we all hung out a lot at the local malls and we went to the park as well. We continued our day to day routines only this time wearing mascara, and boy did we get made fun off. Everywhere we went girls, and guys would laugh at how ridiculous we looked, and it was all thanks to Cassie.

“So are you ready to go?” John asked.

“Well uhm, I saw Wafa here.” I said smiling.

“Did you?! Well where is she?” John asked grinning.

“The guards pushed her away! So all the boys are helping me look around the mall for her, will you help too?”

“yeah, yeah! Of course I’ll help you.”

“Help with what exactly?” Cassie asked confused. John quickly filled her in of how I met her on the train and how I liked her and now I saw her here.

“Can I help too? I know all the great girly stores.” Cassie offered.

“Sure, could you guys scope out the mall together? I said getting up.

“Yeah sure, where will you be?” John asked also getting up.

“I’ll be with Louis, just give me a ring if you see her alright?” I didn’t wait for their answers just ran off towards Louis.

We spent 2 hours looking around the mall, we headed to every store and asked if there was a Wafa anywhere. It was tiring, running up and down the stairs, heading up onto the elevators, all while trying to avoid crazy fans.

“It’s alright mate, don’t worry we’ll find her.” Louis said as we went and stood in line for ice cream.

“No we won’t! I bet she’s already gone.” I huffed.

“Oh look! It’s a Niall wanna be!” Some girl behind me shouted.

“Ha!” Another girl laughed, “Oh my gosh. That actually is Niall!” I turned around to face the girl who had just realized it was actually me.

“Wafa?!” My jaw dropped. “You’re still here?!” Without thinking I ran up and hugged her.

“Oh my gosh Niall! I can’t believe you’re still here!” She said

“I’ve been looking for you! We went to like every store in the mall and we couldn’t find you!” I said smiling.

“You were looking for me?” She asked blushing.

“Well yeah, I like you Wafa… I wanted to get to know you… And the guards were so rude; I just wanted to apologize for them as well.” I said slowly.

“You like me?” She looked away blushing even more.

“You’re different Wafa, I’m glad I met you on the train.”

“But I made a complete fool of myself.” She laughed nervously.

“So? Don’t we all make fools of ourselves at the wrong moments? You’re different, and I like you for that.”
