Twins-Best of Friends?

Identical twins-surely they're the best of friends. Sadly, that's not always the case...

9. Nine~"Ellie! You can't do this!"

One bad thing about cheerleading practice: The next day, you feel like dying. My legs and back ache. Thankfully, Dad always drives me to school after practice, even though he complains about it.

"Only five seconds Cherry," he says, "Five seconds to walk to school." Um, ten minutes more like. But I don't say that.

"Yes Dad," I answer, "Sorry Dad."

When Dad arrives at the school, I climb out, grabbing my bag from the back seat. I notice Ellie standing by the door. Rolling my eyes, I walk past her.

"Cherry!" she smiles, pulling me over, "Look, I need to talk to you. Now."

I moan. "Look, maths homework was simple," I begin, "Use the calculator, find the square root of 64, write it down and put centimetre squared beside it. Done."

"No, not that," giggles Ellie, "It's about a boy."

"Ricky?" I ask, "Yes, I know, he's your boyfriend. You've told me, like, a million times this week. So if it's anything about him, I already know it."

Ellie giggles again, that annoying girly giggle. "Not Ricky," she smiles, "Another boy, who's even more gorgeous than Ricky."

I hesitate. "You've dumped him?" I ask, shocked, "But he'!"

Another giggle. "I haven't dumped him" she says, "He'd kill me!"

I gasp. "Ellie! You can't do this! You'll break Ricky's heart!"

Ellie giggles again. "He won't care," she shrugs, "Besides, I've been seeing Flynn for about a month."

"Flynn?!" I exclaim, "He's one of Ricky's friends. Ellie, this is so wrong!" If Ellie keeps on being ridiculously stupid, I don't know what will happen to Ricky.

Ellie suddenly looks angry. "So you're not happy then?" she snarls. I nod. "You'll never know what it's like to be in love, you'll never have a boyfriend. Huh, who would love you?"

"Oi!" I spin around and spot Ryan and Ricky. I almost burst out laughing. Ricky's hair is bright red. He looks completely confused, and sad.

"El, is that true?" asks Ricky, "You're really dating Flynn?" Ellie shoots me a panicked look but I ignore it. "Ricky's hair?" I whisper to Ryan.

Ryan grins. "Red dye in hair gel," he replies, "It'll wash out, but still, it'll be fun while it lasts." He turns back to watching Ellie and Ricky. Ellie is hysterical, blurting out excuses while Ricky looks furious.

"Stop lying!" Ricky yells, "I know you're lying. Cherry's right, this is wrong! It's over between us, El. Over. I don't ever want to see you again! Ever!" He runs off into the school, leaving Ellie, who's in tears, Ryan, who's muttering about whether or not he should go after his brother and me. I'm staring at Ellie, trying so hard not to go over to her. She's not my friend any more, which sounds so childish.

Poor Ricky.

I wonder if he'll ever fall in love again.
