Forever Young

Marie was an average girl. Until she wasn't.

12. Eighteen

When we got home, Niall immediately demanded food.  I laughed at him.  “Doc said to take it easy, Nialler!”  I said.  “My idea of taking it easy:  Food, Naps, and my girl by my side.  Oh, my gosh!  Did I really just say that out loud?”  He said, giggling at himself.  I sighed.  “Fine, but only something small.  Will a sandwich do?”  I asked, giving in.  He nodded and went to the living room to get himself comfy on the couch.  “Wait, Niall?  Where are the others?”  I asked.  “Who knows and who cares.  More time for us!  Wow, I really need to work on what I say out loud!”  He exaclaimed.  I chuckled at his adorableness.  I made his sandwich, and went to sit next to him on the couch.

“So, Marie,” He said, “I heard it is your birthday tomorrow?”  “Now, where did you hear that from?”  I asked, suspicious.  “Your friend, Laura.  She phoned your Auntie, and then your Auntie gave her my phone number.”  He said.  I sighed.  Laura always makes such a big deal out of my birthday.  She loves parties, and she can’t resist throwing one at every chance she gets.  “So, what do you want?  And, how old are you turning?”  He asked me.  “Nothing.  I hate it when people make big deals about my birthday.  I’d rather stay forever young.  And, I’m turning 18.  It’s no big deal, really!”  I insisted.  “Um, yeah!  It is!  18 is when you officially turn into an adult!  And, its legal drinking age!”  He exclaimed.  I sighed.  I was afraid this was going to happen.

“Look, Laura makes a big deal out of things like this.  I really don’t like celebrations.”  I said.  He sighed.  “Okay.”  He mumbled.  I have a feeling that this won’t be the end of the topic of my birthday.
