Environmental Politics

Ooh, I like the intro, EUROPA corp. I see lots of name brands floating over the earth’s atmosphere and then…HOME appears. Now, the earth is coming out of the darkness of space.

Wise human?

It feels vexing to watch this—the music is soothing. There’s a volcano; I really like the cinematography. The narrator says the earth was made over 4 billion years ago—its 4.5 to be exact; I’m taking HIST151.

Minerals come from rocks? Cool!

Archaebacteria in the earth’s hot springs…algae can capture energy from the Sun.

Ice forms a mantel between water and air; life can go on in the depths.

And at the ten minute mark, I’m looking at a waterfall.

Ocean’s cover three fourths of the earth’s surface and are the world’s largest supply of protein. Over 200,000 species of sea life have been identified out of the millions that are actually out there. Along with being five percent of the world’s GDP, the ocean has billions of people depending on its biodiversity.

I read; protecting coastal and marine ecosystems along the sub-Saharan African Coastline. It spoke of coastal and marine ecosystem threats, and ways to improve healthier sea life. Projects have been focusing in on the reduction of degradation towards coastal and marine environments. The expectations are to identify pollutants and reduce them and develop an ocean government. The UNEP, UNWTO with COAST and GEF (sea preserve organizations) have implemented activities that will have a direct impact on the protection of the environment.

I watched the life of fishermen in Tunisia. There is a local fisherman who believes that there aren’t enough fish in the sea anymore. The local fisherman have a fishing strategy called Sofia which captures fish and leads them into little nets called housings. But, today, local fisherman can only manage to catch three kilos compared to three-hundred kilos in 1956.

The most destructive practice has been trolling. Troll nets damage the fishing environment and deplete the number of fish in an area. If sea environments are damaged it could take up to sixteen years to repair itself. Steps have been taken in order to ruin troll boats. The local government is now making rebar blacks to drop in the ocean in order to rip trolling nets.

Water levels are rising and the temperature is getting warmer. Limiting marine pollution is the first step in solving these problems. [1]

Nutritional Health

Body Piercing,

Recorded since ancient civilization, body piercing is most common with younger persons. Piercing has been utilized on virtually every part of the human body. Common piercing locations are the ears, nose, belly button and eyebrows. Lease noticeable piercing locations consist of the nipples and genitals.

Without proper sterilization, body piercings are vulnerable to infections. The most common areas on the human body to get infected are areas with cartilage—blood flow is thin in these areas. To prevent illnesses like hepatitis, be sure to sterilize your needle and stay away from needle guns.

The risks of body piercings consist of pain, poor healing, swollen tissue, scars, allergic reactions, and dental damage from oral piercings.[2]
