2. Living without the Air Conditioner

I wake up with sweat dripping down my face. I get up from the bed, and make my way down to the living room, where my dad still sits watching football, unaffected by the heat. I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket, and I look to see my best friend Gia''s name pop up on the screen.

"Hello?" I answer. She answers excitedly, talking before I even finish saying "hello". "I got fifty dollars today! I babysat my niece, and I did some chores. I only need four hundred more dollars!"

"Great! I got thirty dollars! We are so close to getting those meet and greet passes. You should come over so we can fangirl together!" I tell her. She giggles.

"Okay! I'll be over in like five minutes." She says hanging up. I forget about how hot it is for a few seconds, but then I remember the heat, and stand in front of the small fan in the kitchen. I feel the air hit my face, and it cools me slightly. I contiinue to stand there until I hear Gia knock on the door.

When I answer it, I can see the excitment on her face without her saying a word. When she sees me she begins to jump up and down, and do a happy dance. I laugh at her, but she continues anyways. When she finishes dancing, we go to my room to listen to One Direction's album. "Wow! It's hot in here! What? Does your mom not turn on the A.C or something?" She asks.

I shake my head, widing sweat from my forehead. "No, it broke. It was old, and it had been running for too long. My dad hasn't been able to fix it yet." I tell her. She shakes her head. "Then why didn't you come to my house? We could have fangirled at my house, in the cool air!" she says.

We have been on the computer for almost two hours when we hear it begin to rain. We log off the compter, and go to sit on the front porch. We watch the lightning light up the sky. The wind begins to pick up, and we decide to go inside. We watch television for a while, until we hear a loud clap of thunder, and all the electric goes out.

"Oh, great! Now we have no electric, the air conditioner is out, and it's raining outside!" Gia complains.
