6. The Wolf

I slowly stepped out of the car and kneeled to to wolf. She chuffed a hello. It wasn't friendly, her stomach skin was loose and hung with shame. He pulled the ring from his pocket, the wolf growled harshly.

"It's you! I don't understand though how are you still here but you are gone?" I had asked, I expected the wolf to run but it stood strong and proud. It's paw formed a line in the snow, on one side it pressed it's paw on the other it nudged my hand in to the snow to form a human print. The wolf drew a line through the human hand print leaving the wolf. The two souls. When the humans has gone the animal is left. The same the other way. I stood up and walked in to the house, the wolf followed. I put on the telly and got changed. She made herself at home lying full length on the sofa, watching the cooking. Her large tongue licked her muzzle. I brought my tie back with me and sat beside her head. I slipped the tie around her neck and took off my belt and fastened that around it. I stood up and grabbed it, a make shift leash and collar. I dragged her in to the cage and locked the door. I had to keep her here and prove that I wasn't an idiot. I picked up my phone and dialled Edwards number,

"Hey bud, where are you?" I had almost weaved the words the words together.

"Just pulling up, why?" He had said a little concerned.

"Hurry down to the basement."

I heard the door bang with the hinges' limit and running people coming closer.

"Henry! Henry!" "Down here."

They came down, breathless, and looked at the wolf which was thrashing in the cage.

"It's Emily!"

Edward came to see if I was right. She stopped still and growled as he looked over her from top to bottom. As he finished he looked in to her sapphire eyes for a long time, as if he was trying to look in to her soul. He read nothing.

"It looks like her Henry but I can normally read what the soul has gone through but it's like see has none. Everything looks like her- the skin, the fur and the eyes- but I'm not convinced. ow are you sure."

"Would a normal wolf be able to draw this," I sketched out what she had first drawn in the snow, "Look, a normal wolf wouldn't have come up to me and done this. Look, the cross through the human hand means half of her is gone and that she can't return to that half so that means she can only stay as a wolf." I poked my hands through the bar, she growled and snapped at it. Her muzzle curling up around her nose. Her tongue flexed like elastic and licked around her teeth.

Edward took another look at her, and said her name. Clear as a bell the wolf nodded in reply. I stood standing as the wolf howled. Stating that she was home again. I wasn't prepared for what came next. Her howl was joined with others, making a fabulous chorus. The sound rang clear and lifted my spirits. I wasn't mad, I could prove it.
