5. First Day

Cody did it. He broke up with Alexis. She was pissed let me tell you that much.

On the first day of school I walked around, not really knowing many people. I reached my first class, Math, my worst subject. Since I was new to the grade I had to introduce myself in front of the class. Mr. Phillips, the teacher asked me where I was from and if I had any other siblings. I answered his questions to the class.

I took my seat next to a boy wearing jeans and a purple polo. He had a nametag at the edge of his desk. I read the name, Carter. He looked at me a nodded. I smiled back.

I sat through a few boring classes. Carter was in all of them. At lunch I started walking towards the quart yard, but someone stopped me. It was Carter.

“Hey, I’m Carter.” He said.

“Wren.” I reached my hand out for a handshake.

“Nice to meet you.”

“Same to you.”

This was kind of awkward. Someone called my name and I turned around to see Cody a few feet away. Thank god! He saved me! Cody walked up and said hello to Carter.

“Follow me.” said Cody.

I turned back to Carter, “Sorry I have to go. I’ll see you later!”

Cody took me to his lunch table and told me to sit down. He got us a slice of pizza, an apple, and bubbly water. My favorite. I didn’t know any of Cody’s friends and we weren’t officially dating yet either.

Some boys came and sat at the table, two more girls came and sat with us. They introduced themselves as Kennedy and Rylee. They were really nice. I was the youngest kid at the table, but they all involved me in the latest gossip and jokes. Cody’s hand gave my thigh a little squeeze, and I smiled at him.

“So Wren, I hear you’re from California.” Kennedy said, trying to make conversation.

“Yeah, I am.”

“Whoa,” Rylee chimed in, “it must be really nice there.”

“Its ok. It’s mostly city, and lots of people. I find it nice being here in the country though.”

“Really?” asked Ben, one of Cody’s friends.

“Yeah. I don’t know it’s just nice to be somewhere a little more quite I guess. For me at least.”

“I get that.” Said Cody.

Everyone smiled. Did they all know that Cody and I liked each other? We all went out into the quart yard for the rest of our lunch period, I was really happy to have the same lunch period as Cody, it gave us more time to be together through the day.

The bell rang and we all went back to class. Cody told me that he would meet me at my locker after school. I couldn’t wait.

The last bell of the day rang and I walked to my locker. Arms wrapped around my waist from behind and I could feel Cody’s strong arms. I turned around and Cody kissed my forehead. People were looking at us, probably thinking, the new kid and captain of the football team?

I lifted Cody’s head to eye level, “Cody, what are you doing?”

“Hugging you.”

“I am not your girlfriend.” I said jokingly.

“Not yet.” He said smiling.

"What do you mean yet?" I asked him.

Cody put me down. People were still staring at us, "Wren, will you please take the honor of being my girlfriend?"

A few people gasped. I looked at Cody, smiling, "Yes!'

He picked me up again and pulled me in for a kiss. Chills ran through my spine. I slowly slid down from his arms, pulling away with a smile smeared across my face. Cody ran his fingers through my hair and tucked it behind my ear. He kissed me again, took my hand and led me outside to hangout with his friends.

I laughed as Kennedy and Rylee clapped for us. This school must be even smaller than it looks. Gossip goes around really fast. That's not a good thing. Did you already forget about Alexis?
