Not So Easy

Abbigale Steward is a problem child to say in the least. After her father died when she was three, her mother got caught up in drugs, and her own semi frekewent run-ins with the cops, she was beginning to believe the whole world was against her. Things got so bad she even considered drugs, and worse; suicide. She felt she had nothing left to live for. Until......she met Xavier, her budding romance, and Isaiah, a mysterious boy in her grade 9 history class.

11. The 'Cold Hearted' Truth

"We can't do this, not until you know what I really am" he said carefully, "I'm not like you, I'm not safe. I know that you already know what I am and I know that your afraid. Your friend, Xavier was telling you the truth, kinda. There were a few kinks to his story that were wrong but other than that, you know what I am in a nutshell." he murmured, "A killer, a predator, a monster." he whispered, looking away.

Suddenly I realized how close he was to my neck and absentmindedly pulled away. The hurt in his eyes was unbearable. I wanted to run, I wanted to hide, and I wanted to escape the hands that had killed so many innocent people. But my heart wanted something else, and so I leaned in and kissed him again.

This time he pulled back at the start. "You don't know how much I want to." He said sadly, "But it's not safe, there's just something about you. I won't be able to control myself. I don't want to hurt you." he looked away as he said it.

"You won't, I promise, I'm stronger than you think." I murmured.

"You have no idea what I'm capable of." he whispered, "You hear what Monitor Boy said, I've killed people before." he said looking into my eyes, "What's to stop me from killing you?"

Did he just imply that he wanted to kill me? Why didn't I care? Maybe because my life sucked and my own mother wanted to kill me. Or maybe because death brought me one step closer to being with my father. Either way, the thought on death didn't scare me.

He seemed to realize what I was thinking because he smirked.

"You're the strangest person I have ever laid eyes on." he said slowly, "But all the same, I'm not good for you. You have to believe me. I could read your feelings about me that first day under that tree. You were attracted to me, and I had to change your mind. That's why I invited you to my house and acted like a complete pervert." he continued, "And I honestly hoped that you wouldn't come out here like I asked. You already knew what I was, and I told you to come alone, you did. In the back of your mind you had to have thought that it's the perfect chance for me to kill you."

He was right. Thinking back I realized how stupid I was. I get a note in my locker telling me to come outside to meet a guy how has killed innocent people; and I didn't tell one person where I was going.

After he let that soak in he said, "So either your suicidal...or your really brave."

That time he was wrong; true I may be suicidal, but those weren't the reasons that I met him. I examined him, he had meant to leave an option out. He clearly wanted me to say it myself. Well I wasn't, not a chance, what about Xavier?

I stood and started walking towards the school. Suddenly I was pined to the ground with Isaiah's teeth just inches away from my exposed neck. Crap!

"There's just one more thing." He said quietly, "I can't have anybody knowing about what I truly am. So I'm going to have to ask that you keep this our little secret."

"Then how does Xavier know?" I challenged. Before he had a chance to answer I heard footsteps to my left but I didn't dare expose more of my neck. I squeezed my eyes tightly together and clenched my teeth.

  "Get off her!"

I recognized that voice anywhere. Looking up I saw Xavier looming overhead. Isaiah didn't resist and got up. Leaving me gasping for air, I hadn't noticed how heavy he was as he crushed my ribs.

"You," Xavier said stabbing a finger in Isaiah's direction, "Get inside."

Isaiah calmly walked passed us but stopped and turned around once he got to the doors.

"See you later Abs, please don't forget your promise." he ran his tongue over his teeth as he glared at Xavier then stepped inside.
