Minor Complications (Part 1)

Instead of going to parties, 17 year old Emma would prefer to stay home and watch television, even though her best friend Tiffany begs her to leave the house once in a while. One night at a party, Tiffany meets the members of One Direction, and falls head over heels for Liam. Unfortunately, so does Emma. They become close friends with Zayn, Harrry, and Louis, who try to stay out of the drama. And then there is Niall, who constantly fights for Emma's attention. Complicated. This is part of my Complications trilogy.

This is a story for the One Direction contest. :)
It used to be called Little Complications, but when I decided to make it a trilogy I had to change the name.

*Emma's Point Of View*

It's been three weeks since Liam asked Tiffany out. One week left before the boys leave to go back on tour. I must admit, even though I enjoy hanging out with them all the time (believe me it was much better than sitting at home watching tv), I can't wait until they are gone.

Ever since Liam asked Tiffany out, she has told me every single detail about everyone of their dates. How he took her to the movies on their first date and he kissed her goodbye. How on their fourth date, he took her to some fancy restaurant and opened the car door for her and pulled out her chair. How on their seventh date, they hung out at his house, ordered pizza, and talked all night. They have gone out almost every night for the past three weeks, and I can't seem to miss one detail. Some nights they will invite the rest of the boys and I to tag along. But it's always so awkward because they are always snuggling and kissing. It makes me want to vomit.

Niall texts me everyday. I don't know why. Our conversations are always so boring and awkward, mostly because of me. I don't have much texting experience since, pretty much no one texts me. But, surprisingly, Niall keeps them going.

Tiffany comes over tonight for the first time since the night of the bowling alley. She sets down her things.

"Emma! I feel like it's been so long since we have hung out just the two of us! How long has it been?" she asks.

"Since the night Liam asked you out." I reply.

"Oh, yeah," she smiles, "The happiest night of my life." She goes over to the poster on my wall and stares.

"What are you doing?" I ask her.

"Staring at my wonderful boyfriend."

"Can we not talk about Liam tonight? Can we just have a fun girl's night?" I ask, really wanting not to hear another word about him.

"Okay, but just 10 more seconds." She continues staring. "Wait what is that mark on his face." She steps closer to the poster, examining it. Uh-oh.

"I don't know what you are talking about." I answer.

"Oh my God. It's a heart? Around Liam's face?" She slowly sinks down to her knees.

This is it. She is going to yell at me for being in love with her boyfriend.

"I am the worst friend ever, aren't I?" she asks, quietly.

"No? What do you mean?" I wasn't expecting her to say that.

"I remember! Liam was the one you always went on and on about! The one you have a huge crush on! I am a horrible friend! I took him from you!" Her eyes start to tear up.

"He was never mine to begin with." I say.

"It makes sense! That's why you weren't excited when he asked me out! You were hurt!" She looks at me. "I'll break up with him. I will. I didn't mean to hurt you! I'm so sorry. I promise I will break up with him."

"I'm not letting you break up with him!"

I realize how unexpected this was. Here I was thinking she would be mad! I should have told her how I was feeling from the start. She would have understood! She's my best friend!

"I'm not letting you break up with him." I repeat. "I know how happy he makes you."

"But I took him from you." she protests.

"He was never mine. And he didn't fall in love with me. He fell in love with you."

Tiffany hugs me. "Why didn't you tell me how you were feeling?" she asks.

"I was scared you would be mad."

She rolls her eyes, "Yeah, I would have been furious." she says sarcastically.

"Trust me, I will get over him, eventually." I say.

"I know someone who could help." she says smiling. I raise my eyebrows, questioningly. "Niall."

"Niall doesn't like me."

"Yes, he does. Why do you think he puts up with your boring text conversations?" she asks.

"Well, if they are so boring, how does he like me?" I argue.

"You are much more interesting in person. And you are pretty." I feel my cheeks burn. "Ask him to hang out, just the two of you. Make things less awkward and get to know him better."

"You are a hundred percent sure he has feelings for me?" I ask, wanting to make sure.

"Of course. He can't take his eyes off you." Tiffany answers, smiling.
