It was just another normal school year for Thalia Lux. Classes, detention, longer classes, even longer detention. Nothing seemed to get any better no matter what her parents did. The more they pushed her to get better the more she took it out on other people. To make matters worse, Thalia's best friend, Katie, is battling cancer. When she gets the word that Katie has taken a turn for the worst, she ultimately feels like giving up. Will anything get better? And why does she get the funny feeling that she's being watched when she walks home from school?

1. Friends...? ~Thalia~

Walking down the halls I was really starting to hate my new school. It was my third school in two years because I had been expelled for nearly killing my lab partner with his own car keys. It wasn't too serious, he only walked away with a few gashes and a black-eye. I let that jerk off easy.

Of course it wasn't my fault, that creep kept touching me and looking at me the way a cat would look at a fat juicy mouse. But no matter how much I tried to convince my parents of this, they just wouldn't listen. So there I was...the weird new girl...again!

I entered room 306 for music class, one of the only classes I don't hate. As usual I was late so the minute I step in every single head turns towards me. Instantly I felt my cheeks burn.

"Why does this always happen to me!" I thought.

I stand frozen under all the beady eyes peering at me over their sheet music. Finally the teacher clears her throat and the class turn their attention back to the board. I scurry to my seat at the back of the room and pull out my flute.

I couldn't help but notice a cute boy, sitting a few rows away, had his fascinating blue-green eyes fixated right on me. Trying to ignore the annoying burning sensation in my cheeks I focused on the beautiful melody of my flute and time seemed to slip away.

As class let out I rushed to my locker and into the bathroom. My cheeks were flushed from running and my hair was falling out of its bobby pins. And to my dismay a new acne pimple had recently sprouted up.

"Oh great! First day at a new school and I'll be known as Rudolph The Pimple Nosed Freak!" I thought disgusted with myself.

I spray water over my face and I was just about to pull my hair down when I hear the bathroom door fly open.

A trio of girls, one blonde, one red head, and one brunette, sashay into the room. Each of them carried designer purses, matching headbands, flirty lip gloss shades, and 6 inch stiletto heels.

   "Omigod...", I mumbled.

Stupid me, because this got the attention of their leader. The blonde flipped her hair as she turned toward me. Her eyes flickered with distaste as her gaze skimmed over my clothes.

"What? Walmart brand clothes not good enough for you?" I thought. This kinda thing really gets on my nerves, and when something gets on my nerves I usually end up expelled.

Then blondie stuck out her hand and said, "Hello! You must be new, I'm Rebecca," gesturing to the other too girls "and this is Addison and Rachel. You should sit with us at our table! The light from the sun would, like, totally bring out your highlights!"

With that she slipped her arm through mine and led the way out the door.
