Three's a Crowd

Rose and Zayn have been best friends since before they can remember. When Zayn's life is completely turned upside down and he becomes 1/5 of the world's biggest boyband, he and Rose reconnect. Upon reuniting with Zayn, Rose meets the rest of the band, and nothing could prepare her for what was to come.

9. The Morning After

Rose POV

I woke up the next morning, slightly dazed because I didn't recognize my surroundings. Then I remembered, I was at Zayn's flat. I stretched and looked over at Zayn next to me, sleeping peacefully, the corner of his mouth turned up ever so slightly. I smiled to myself. I liked him like this. He tended to frown near me, because he was always so concerned. I liked how innocent he looked, like a child.

I got up and headed to the kitchen to make some tea. I was greeted by the sight of Harry in just his boxers, standing over the stove making some eggs.

"Mmmm, smells good," I said, leaning over him, "is that for me?"

"Nope," Harry said shortly, and he piled the eggs onto his plate with some toast and sat down at the table, not even bothering to look over at me.

"What, no 'first morning' breakfast?" I asked playfully, confused by his change in attitude towards me.

"There's cereal in the cupboard," he said indifferently, and I frowned.

"Are you ok?" I asked, sitting down next to him, trying to get some sort of emotion to emerge from his blank mask.

"Dandy," he muttered, taking a bite of toast.

I frowned deeper and looked at him questioningly. "Is this becasue I didn't sit next to you last night? Because honestly I just missed Zayn and-"

"It's fine." He said, cutting me off. "I'm just a cocky prick anyway, what does it matter?" And with that, he got up, taking his plate with him.

My eyes widened, and I felt a lump form in my chest. Had he heard Zayn and I talking? I never meant for him to hear that, in fact, I hardly meant it at all.

"Harry, wait," I said, grabbing his wrist, shocked by the jolt that went through me when our skin made contact.

"Just listen to me," I pleaded softly.

Harry POV

I looked into her pale blue eyes, silently begging for me to forgive them, and it took all of my willpower to not throw myself at her then and there. What she said had hurt, but she was just so god damn beautiful, I could never stay mad at her.

"It's really ok, Rose," I said, trying not to choke on the lump that had formed in my throat. "You have every right to feel that way about me."

She shook her head, looking up at me sadly, and I wanted to do anything, anything to make her happy again. I forced a small smile onto my face and turned away from her, heading towards the living room.

"Harry, please," she whispered, her voice on the verge of breaking.

Rose POV

I never wanted to hurt him like this, never. I hated hurting people, considering how much I had been hurt in the past. The quavering of his voice as he spoke to me nearly brought me to tears, and I cursed myself a million times over for saying something so stupid about someone I had barely known for a couple of hours.

"I'm so sorry."

Harry POV

She stood before me, looking so small in her oversized t-shirt, her hair slightly askew out of her messy bun, and I just wanted to hug her. She looked so ashamed of herself, so sad. I walked over to her slowly, and brushed one of the stray hairs out of her face.

"It's alright," I breathed, taking in her beauty, my hand resting on the side of her face. I could see tears forming in her eyes, her beautiful eyes, and before I knew what I was doing, I had pulled her in close to me, stroking her hair. There was nothing sexual about it, nothing I had done with any other girl before. This was me showing raw emotion, to someone who had captured my heart, catching me completely off guard.

Rose POV

I stood there in Harry's arms for what seemed like hours, although it had probably only been a couple of minutes. I was suddenly aware of his clothing, or lack there of, and I pulled away embarassed, smiling slightly as I sniffled away the last of my tears.

"Sorry," I laughed shakily, wiping my eyes impatiently on my sleeve, "I don't really know what came over me."

"It's alright," Harry said quietly, gazing at me softly. His eyes no longer held the look of a hunter after his prey, like they had last night, but they were filled with concern, and...longing.
