We're From District Four

It's the 125th Hunger Games. It's a Quarter Quell which continues next year. This year, districts 2,4,6,8,10 and 12 offer two girls, while districts 1,3,5,7,9 and 11 offer two boys. And next year, the opposite effect.

1. The Lake

"Maya?" I croaked, my throat burned as the salt water rushed down it.

"Rainbow? Over here!" She called back, I automatically turned to the left and saw her head above the glistening water. Rainbow is my nickname, she gave it to me. My real name is Rayne. We were in the lake. The lake that is about one quarter of District Four. The district you can count on to be cool in the summer. Her black and blue hair curled as water swam through every individual strand.

"Found any fish?" I asked, my brown hair clung to my face. The sun's beams bounced off of the water's surface and into my eyes forcing me to squint.

"Yeah," She yelled back and dived back into the clutches of the water. I dived back under the water too and searched for fish. It's reaping day tomorrow. We are gathering fish for tomorrow's supper. We always celebrate when our names are not drawn from the glass bowls. We're both fourteen so our names will be going into the bowl three times. We have no need to sign up for tesserae. We have enough money to have at least one meal a day. Both of our families are rich. Not super rich, like some families, richer than the poor. We have enough money to buy luxuries, such as rings and necklaces.

We climbed up into trees and watched the sun fall down and wait for the moon to rise.

"I'm scared about the reaping, what if we get picked?" I muttered.

"We won't. Think about all the poor children who have to take out Tesserae. Their names will be in the bowl more than ours. We are safe." She replied, glancing at me. Looking at me as if I was stupid.

"I know. But remember Katniss Everdeen, the victor from District 12? Her sister, Primrose, had her name in once and she got picked. Katniss had her names in the bowl more than Primrose did." I stated.

"Good point." She muttered.

When the moon was high in the sky we climbed down the tree and went home. I didn't want to talk to my parents. I was too nervous about tomorrow. I curled into bed and fell asleep quickly. I was tired from all the work I did today.

"Rayne! Rayne! Get up! You need to get ready." My mother called from outside my bedroom door. I got up and walked into the bathroom and saw a nice hot bath had been left for me. I got in and washed my hair. After I towel-dried it I shoved a brush through it and got dressed into a lemon yellow dress. It had elbow-length sleeves and hung down to my knees. I wore yellow pumps and pulled my hair back into a bun. I brushed my teeth and joined the rest of my family. My two younger brothers, Cal who is eight and Ocean who is six. It was one o'clock. The reaping starts in an hour.

The reaping.

I sighed and followed my family out of the house and into the square where the reaping takes place.
