24. Gaining My Trust

I woke up the next morning in my bedroom. After my talk with Harry last night, I left him in the spare bedroom. It felt so wrong, being in the same house as Harry and not being snuggled in his arms. It felt so unnatural, even after three years. I got out of bed and brushed my teeth. I was about to make my way down the steps, when I heard voices downstairs. I walked down the stairs as quietly as I could, attempting to spy on whoever it was. I followed the voices into the kitchen, where I saw Harry and Talia making pancakes. I stayed by the doorway, where they couldn't see me because their backs were facing my direction. I stood there for a while, watching their every move, listening to what they said to each other. "Talia, wanna hear a secret?" "Secwet? I wuv secwets! Tell me!" He bent down so he could whisper in her ear. "Do you know how much I love your mommy?" "How much?" "More than the whole world!" She gasped. "That's a wot of wuv for mommy!" "And you know what else?" "What!" "I love you more than everything and anything!" For the second time in 24 hours, I was spying on my daughter and her father with tears running down my cheeks. Talia must of heard me because she turned around with a big smile on her adorable little face. "Momma! Daddy wuvs you more than the whoe wuld!" I looked over at Harry who was blushing like crazy. He then turned to Talia with a goofy smile. "I told you it was a secret!" Talia then made an O shape with her mouth. "Ooopsies!" She giggled. We had breakfast together and Talia told Harry all about the presents the directioner girls had given her. Harry had told me where he was living, which was in Yorkshire. "Harry, could I talk to you in the other room?" I got up as we headed for the living room. "How are we going to be a family if you live in Yorkshire?" "I didn't quite think of that. Well Louis has a flat out here in London, so maybe he'll let me stay for a while." He called Louis and he said that it was alright. After breakfast, Harry went back to playing with Talia. He looked so much happier than when I saw pictures of him in the gossip magazines. He tamed his dishevelled curls, cleaned up his stubble, and had some color to his face. He looked alive. He was amazing with Talia, and she loved the life out of him. I never thought I would be the one to say this, but I think that this will be a good thing, having Harry in our lives.

Talia has been non-stop talking about Harry. He is picking her up tonight to have a sleepover at his flat. Talia and I were in the middle of dinner when someone knocked on the door. Talia immediately dropped her pizza and ran out of the kitchen, excited to see her daddy once again. She tried to open the door, but she was too short."Momma! Pwease help!" Talia asked while jumping up to reach the handle. I chuckled as I walked over to her and opened the door. I was face to face with Harry, his green eyes pouring into mine. I wanted so badly to kiss him, feel his soft lips against mine, but I restrained from it. Harry walked in and bent down to kiss Talia. He pulled a rose from behind his back and handed it to her. "A rose for my favorite girl in the world." As Talia squealed with happiness, Harry stood up and looked at me. "A rose for my favorite lady in the world." He handed me the flower, as he took my hand and kissed it like a real gentleman. "Your such a flirt.", I teased Harry as I pinched his cheek. He smirked. "What can I say? It works!" It felt so natural, being there with Talia and Harry. It felt like a real family, like the ones on TV that seem too perfect to be true. A little voice in my head reminded me that I still had to have my guard up with Harry, he still has to earn my trust. I picked up Talia's overnight bag and handed it to Harry. "Talia, you are going to be a good girl for daddy, right? And go to bed when he says so?" Talia looked confused. "You not comin, Momma?" I shook my head. "No, baby. I am going to stay here while you have fun with Daddy." "But Momma, I gonna mish you!" I was about to say something to cheer Talia up, but Harry's voice beat me to it. "Mommy can come also, if she wants to." Talia looked at me with a grin. "Momma! Daddy say you can come!" I hesitated for a moment but eventually gave in. "Okay, let me just grab some clothes." We arrived at Harry and Louis' flat, and I was beginning to feel nervous. It would be the first time that I would see Louis in so long, and I am embarrassed that I never made any efforts to call him. The moment Harry opened the door, I saw a crazy person lunge toward us. Yep, some people never change. "Sarah! I haven't seen you in forever! I missed you so much!" Louis pulled me in a tight hug, and in the corner of my eye, I saw Harry give him a death glare. Once Louis unwrapped his arms from around me, he looked down at Talia. "And who is this young lady? I bet she doesn't like playing with toys…", Louis teased her. "Yes I do!" Talia giggled, happy to find someone to play with that has the same maturity level as her. We put our bags down, and Louis suggested that we have a dance party. Talia thought that was an amazing idea. Louis plugged his iPod into the stereo and One Direction music filled the room. Harry was twirling Talia in his arms and Louis and I were dancing like fools. When "Gotta Be You" came on, we all starting singing along- very much off tune, I may add. When the song was about to come to an end, Harry looked me in the eyes and sang the last lyrics to me, on tune, and flawless.

"Can we try one more time to make it all better?

'Cause it's gotta be you

It's gotta be you

Only you

Only you"

The song finished and the room went quiet. I stared at Harry, I was speechless. I pulled myself together and ended the awkward silence. "Uh… Talia it's bedtime. Who do you want to put you to bed?" "I'LL DO IT!", Louis announced, before she could respond. This kid love creating uncomfortable situations, didn't he. Talia and Louis skipped out of the room, leaving Harry and I alone. We sat there quietly until Louis joined us again. Louis turned to me with a smirk on his face. He was up to something. "Talia is sleeping in the guest bedroom. I guess that means that you have to sleep on the couch because I'm not sharing a room with you!" Harry's head perked up. "You can sleep on the couch, I'll sleep on the floor." I shook my head. "No, I can't let you do that, I am fine sleeping on the floor." Harry wouldn't have it. "No you are not. The floor is too uncomfortable." We kept bickering until Louis piped in. "Just sleep on the same couch! It's big enough and it's not like you haven't done it before!" Harry's eyes lit up. "I'm fine with it if you are."

I couldn't say no, because:

A) I wanted nothing more than to sleep in the same bed as him again.

B) I was not going to sleep on an uncomfortable floor.

"Sure, why not." Harry grinned and escorted me to the couch. Once we were tucked in and the lights were off, we were both stiff. We have never before laid in the same bed and not been touching, but here we were, laying 2 feet apart, contemplating whether or not to move closer. "Good night, Harry.", I said to fill the awkward atmosphere. "Good night Sarah. I love you." Harry blurted out. Even in the dark I could sense the blush creeping up on his cheeks. I didn't say anything for a moment, but I had to admit to how I really felt. "I love you too." I snuggled a little bit closer to Harry, so my head was against his chest, and he wrapped his arm around me. It felt so right, and I missed it all along.
