We met through wires

Julia Longmere is waiting outside the cinema. Her 'long time' boyfriend doesn't turn up. Her wires tangle. She meets Mol. Everything changes.

There's a bit of bad language, but that's about it. Enjoy. Also, if you like it, or if you don't, tell me why in the comments section. Thank you. You may now: Enjoy. :)

1. Pretty but impractical

“Where are you? I’ve been here for an hour and a half. I didn’t see the film. It would have been shit anyway. You know I hate horror. I should’ve chose- in fact, I don’t care. Just… call me back.” I sat down on the steps of the Odeon entrance. I routed in my bag for my iPod. When I found it, I tried to unwind my headphones.

“Wires?” I looked up expectantly. It wasn’t him. You could never expect Finn to show up for anything. He probably went out for drinks. On our anniversary. Our 6 month anniversary. 6 months is a long time, especially with my blurred past with relationships.

There was a man stood above me. He had rich brunette hair which was half quiffed, half flipped like Justin Bieber. His eyes were the same as his hair, a deep brown. They were the kind of eyes that didn’t look natural, the colour was too rich, the pupil looked like a black hole, ready to suck me in. His skin was a pale cream, like parchment. My mouth went dry. No-one talks to me {that I don’t know. I do have friends}.

“E-e-e-erm. YES! Tangled! Idon’tknowwhyIhavethesestupidheadphonesImeantheyarealwaystangledandIcanneverundoth-” He picked up my headphones and squatted next to me.

“I can undo them. It happens to me too. I don’t know why I don’t buy wireless headphones. Mol.”

“What?” I blurted rudely.

“My name. Mol.”

“What a weird name.” I blurted out again. I couldn’t control what I was saying. He looked a bit hurt, but his smile came back.

“I wasn’t born Mol. It may be stupid, but it’s better than Morris.”

“Suppose so. I’m so sorry. I don’t know wh-” And that’s when I burst into tears.

“Are you okay? What’s wrong? It’s okay, I know it’s a weird name but it doesn’t matter. I’m not offended.”

I looked up at him and wiped my nose with my sleeve, now completely uncaring of what I looked like.

“My boyfriend hasn’t turned up. We were supposed to watch Saw but he hasn’t turned up and he hasn’t called me back and I don’t know what’s happened to him.” I felt an arm curl round my shoulder and didn’t care what it looked like if Finn turned up.

“I’m sorry.” I wiped my face again. “I’m Julia.” I outstretched my hand, then realised why he recoiled and offered the snot-free hand. I laughed, and so did he.

“It’s fine. Can I walk you to your car?”

“I don’t have one. Finn was supposed to pick me up.”

“Boyfriend. I’ll get the bus.” I routed round in my bag for my purse. It wasn’t there. Shit. I expressed this last sentiment out loud.

“My purse. It’s gone.” He offered to help me find my purse. We looked round the ticket counter, the bathroom {me on my own}, even screen 7. Nothing.

“I’ll take you home if you want. Oh, sorry. Finn.”

“Please. I was the girl at school that people joked about having crushes on. He won’t get jealous. I’ll just say you’re Lisa’s friend.”

“Lisa’s my best friend.”

We stood around for a second, awkwardly. Then he clapped his hands together and said

“So, where do you live?”
