~The first compelling novel in the Grey Wolves series~

1. Late Arrival

I ran as fast as my human legs would let me, pushing away the branches that threatened to grab onto me never let me get there on time. My long, straight, raven-black hair fluttered behind me like a flag, and my ice blue eyes searched the forest for the pack's meeting place. I could not be late for this. I could not be late for my initiation as a full-blown werewolf.

I stumbled quite a few times, over tree roots that stuck out of the ground. I almost tripped into the fire, though luckily I stopped myself. My breathing was heavy by this point. I could feel everyone's eyes burning into me. The alphess looked at me with her sharp, hazel-coloured eyes, and simply said, "You're late."

I felt a blush turn my usually porcelain-coloured skin bright red. "I'm sorry, alphess." An inhuman whimper escaped my throat.

Shaking her head, my mother turned her sharp eyes away from me, and murmured, "May the pups stand, and show us they have moved to adolescence."

I watched as Adonis, the most handsome guy in the pack, stood up and walked next to me. I couldn't help glancing at his t-shirt, which clung to his body like a second skin. You could see his six-pack easily. His dark-brown, almost black hair was cut short, and his tan skin and strong jaw made him all the more attractive. Adonis gave me his most dazzling smile, and my insides turned to liquid. I give him my most winning smile, which was probably just as good as his, because I saw him blush.

You see, me and Adonis have been in love with eachother since the eighth grade, up to now, tenth grade. Unfortunately, my mother prohibited us from being mates. Apparently, I wasn't allowed to have a mate until I was the alphess. Then, Adonis could fight his way up to the top. Thank god for that, I think, smiling to myself.

Then, of course, my worst enemy, Desdemona stood up. Desdemona has wavy brown hair that goes a little past her shoulders, high cheek-bones and a pointed chin, which makes her look like the witch I know she really is. And I hate her filthy guts. I think coldly, staring daggers in her direction as she swaggers up to Adonis, bumping him with her hip. Fuck you. I think, ready to spit balls of acid. Adonis frowns at her, and fails at hiding his disappointment. Probably disappointed it wasn't me. I smirk at that.

My mother distracts me from my thoughts. "Let us begin!"
