~The first compelling novel in the Grey Wolves series~

7. Alone With A Stranger

I walk through the forest, the tambark and twigs and fallen leaves making a sort of cushion for my paws. That's when it hits me. The scent of a male wolf that I don't recognise is picked up easily by my nose, but, it's not just your average wolf.

It's another one of us.

I run towards the scent, swerving through the trees as my paws softly thud against the ground. I'm sure this wolf is staying in one place deliberately, to catch my attention. I'm now panting hard as I pass the last couple of trees, desperate to find this one stranger...

My glowing blue eyes meet with glowing green.

I stop in my tracks as I inspect this wolf, curious as far as curiosity goes.

But I don't get a chance to, because he's in his human form. So, my eyes rake over his human body instead. Short blonde hair, chiseled face and square jaw, broad shoulders, muscle-toned body, muscular arms and legs...

I blush as I finally comprehend he is naked.

In my shock and terror, I manage to transform as well, and squeel as I dive behind the closest tree. When I peek out, I can see this stranger has done the same thing. He peeks his head out as well, and smiles at me.

"Let's collect our clothes first, then meet back here."

This stranger's smile is heart-stoppingly sexy. I manage to get a smile on my face as well, but I can't be sexy. I can only get as far as beautiful. But, beautiful must be enough for him because his face lights up. I blush again.

"You know, the face you make when you blush is really erotic."

I almost jump out of my skin when he speaks. I find the nerve to reply. "... Excuse me?" The stranger just laughes. "Well then, 'handsomely mysterious', what's your name?" God, I'm straight to the point sometimes, I think, And I come up with weird nicknames.

The guy grins, then says, "Dante. Now, 'Beautifully mysterious', what's your name?" I laugh as he mimics my tone. "I'm Olathe. It's nice to meet you, Dante. Have you-" I don't get the chance to finish my sentence, because Dante interrupts me. "You've been exiled too?"

Dante's question renders me speechless. "Erm, no, I've completed the challenges for the adolescence thing or whatever..." I'm blushing again under his steady gaze.

"Did you manage them?" I light up at a question I can answer, and grin.

"Aced them." Dante nods appreciatively in my direction.

"Then why'd they send you away for a bit?"

I think for a moment about this. "One of my pack mates failed horribly at all of the challenges, and was looking at me jealously, when..."

"What'd you say?" Dante pressed.

"Well, all I said was, and in these exact words 'Don't hate me cuz you ain't me'." Dante blinked. Then, he started laughing.

I am absolutely confused by what Dante has told me. "Explain again?"

"When a higher ranking member of our pack has been insulted, or is being glared at by a lower member of the pack, and calls them out on it..." Dante pauses, "The punishment is usually being bitten, hard, wherever the higher ranking wolf chooses." I blink, my mind finally processing the information.

"Oh. I won't be meeting the pack again today, then." Dante grins.

"Well, I should get going. Not having a pack has it's disadvantages, meaning you have to hunt for yourself. Goodbye, Olathe."

"Wait, Dante!" I yell after him, and he looks back at me.

"Meet me here tomorrow." He says knowingly, and then he's gone. Sighing, I begin to walk off, and suddenly feel very hollow and lonely without Dante beside me.

Oh god, I think, I've got a little crush on someone I've just met.
