2. Chapter 2

“Jessie!” Louis shrieked, as he ran towards me. It was six o’clock in the morning, and we were meeting up to talk about the tour with their manager and various other important people. I was so excited to see the boys, but come on - it was six o’clock! I was in no mood to scream.

“Lou - nice to see you!” I replied, with the most excited voice I could muster up. He grinned and hugged me tightly.

I knew Louis the best. The other boys, however, I didn’t know so well. I knew their names, and they knew mine, but we never really talked that much after the shows I went to watch. Harry would take me out at the end of the show, almost right after, and we would go have dinner together alone.

“Hey Jess,” the other boys said. I waved at them, and they smiled back.

“Where’s my lovely girlfriend?” I heard a familiar voice say. I spun around in excited anticipation. There he was. Harry, standing beautifully behind me, holding onto a suitcase. He was smiling that cute smile of his as he opened his arms. I ran into them and gave him a kiss.

“Harry, I missed you,” I said, softly. He gave me another kiss.

“I missed you more,” he replied. I looked into his eyes, and almost forgot that other people were around us. We tended to get lost in our world when we saw each other.

“Ahem,” Louis said, clearing his throat. We both broke apart, grinning sheepishly. “You do know we’re still here.”

“How could we forget,” Harry grumbled under his breath. “Let’s go to the meeting, shall we?” he said a little louder.

We all walked into the glass building of their music management label and up the elevator to the 20th floor. My stomach was turning, and I was very nervous to meet Simon Cowell.

We walked into the office, and I looked at Harry. He gave me a reassuring smile.

“Hi Mr. Cowell, it’s nice to meet you,” I said, extending my arm. He shook my hand, with a laugh. He was so tall and intimidating and charming…I couldn’t believe I was standing in front of him.

“It’s nice to meet you too, Jessica,” he replied, pleasantly. “But, you don’t need to call me ‘Mr. Cowell’. ‘Simon’ will do just fine.”

I smiled, slightly embarrassed.

“Yeah, or you could always call him ‘Uncle Simon’ like we do,” Louis piped up. I giggled along with the rest of the boys.

All of a sudden, the telephone started to ring. It was Simon’s. He excused himself for a moment and answered it.

“I’m just going to the loo,” Harry said. “Be right back.”

I nodded, and he gave me a swift kiss on the cheek. I was left with the four other boys. Louis and I would probably talk more. Not that I didn’t like the other boys. It was just that we hadn’t really talked. Well, maybe I should bond with them…

“So - er - Jessie…” Niall, the cute, blue-eyed, blonde boy said. “Wait, is it okay if I call you that?”

“Yes, for sure,” I replied, smiling. Aww, this boy was really sweet.

“Are you excited to be going on tour with us?” he asked, politely. I nodded, enthusiastically.

“Oh yeah, this is, like, my biggest dream. So, thanks for letting me open for you guys,” I responded, looking at all of them. They all grinned.

“We’re glad we could make your dream come true. Anything for our Harry and his girl,” Zayn told us. Liam smiled, slightly - however, he looked preoccupied with his phone.

“How about you sing a song for us?” Louis suggested. I shot him a glare. No. No thank you.

“Um, no thanks,” I said, smiling.

“Why not?” Niall asked. “You’re going to have to perform this in front of nine times more people!”

“But, that’s different!”

“How?” Louis tested.

“Because I know you guys. I don’t know the people I’m performing for!” I retaliated.

“What are we all talking about?” Simon asked, as he hung up the telephone. I looked at the other boys, hoping they wouldn’t bring it up. However, I clearly didn’t know One Direction at all…

“Jessie was just going to sing us a song,” Liam said, grinning from ear to ear. Thanks a lot, boys…

“Oh, one of your originals?” Simon wondered. “Wonderful! I would like to hear it myself. I mean, I’ve heard the CDs Harry plays us…but I would like to hear it live!”

Oh great. Now, let’s just hope he doesn’t have a guitar…

“Well, I need a guitar,” I told him, crossing my fingers that he didn’t have one.

“Here, there’s one in my office.”

Of course there was…it was a music management label, for crying out loud. They probably had all the instruments ready, and on hand. Damn it…

“Ready?” he asked. I nodded, nervously. I swallowed a large lump forming in my throat.

“Yeah. I’m singing a song called ‘Perfect In Every Way’.” I began strumming the first familiar notes to the song. This was one of the first songs I had written when I started going out with Harry.

You sat there, looking so mysterious And I  thought about you, so curious Did you know I thought about you everyday Thinking how you’re perfect, in every way

That was some of the lyrics to my song. I was pretty proud of it, and as I started to sing for them - I forgot they were even there. I felt like I had fallen back into my own utopia, playing for myself. Playing for the beauty of my emotions. As I strummed the final notes, I lifted my head and opened my eyes.

Suddenly, they all clapped loudly - Louis took my face in his hands and kissed my cheek.

“You are so talented,” Simon complimented. Wow. Did one of the most respected men in the music industry just say that to me? This must be a dream…

“She is,” Harry said, from the doorway.

It was the next day, and Simon invited me along to the interview One Direction had to be at. He wanted to show me what the process would be like - how to deal with fans, how to talk to interviewers, what they were and weren’t supposed to say.

He had given me the run-down on almost everything, and the boys were now sitting in their chairs, waiting to be interviewed. I was off on the side, watching them.

“Do the boys know I’m here?” I asked Simon.

“No,” he responded. I was sent in another car, so I wasn’t mobbed by One Direction fans as much - and I was pretty disguised when I walked into the studio. I hadn’t told Harry, because Simon told me the plans that morning. “Didn’t have time to tell him. It’ll be a nice surprise.”

I smiled, as I watched the interviewer walk on. The crowd went wild for the boys.

“So, let’s talk about relationships. I know some of you boys have been in quite the whirlwind of love. How are you dealing, Louis? How’s Hannah?”

“Erm, we’re alright. I mean, it’s really tough to have a strong relationship when I’m always away all the time…but, we’ll make it work,” he replied, sweetly. That’s adorable. My respect just soared for Louis.

“How about you, Zayn? You and Rebecca? Is that going on or what?”

“Ummm…” he said, hesitantly. “We’re just testing out the waters now. But, I’m not sure if I’d say we’re in a relationship right now…”

“Oh dear,” said the interviewer. “And you, Harry? How are you holding up with your relationship?”

“Oh,” he said, looking at the interviewer. I looked at him, expectantly. Surely, he would say we were going strong and everything was alright. “Well, I’m not sure it’s holding up too well…”

What? How could he say that?

“What do you mean, Harry?” replied, the interviewer. I wanted to know too. I crossed my arms across my chest and waited patiently.

“Well, you see…my relationship has ended.”

“Oh no! Does this mean you’re single?” he asked. The boys were looking at him like he was insane! They looked like they had no idea what was going on, either. Louis nudged Harry, subtly, but he didn’t respond.

“Yes, I am single.”

Well, if he was..then that meant I was very single, as well.
