15. Chapter 15

“Oh Harry, it looks amazing,” I heard Madison say from the kitchen. I was on the couch with Liam, watching a movie, but I could still hear them talking from the kitchen. I rolled my eyes and sighed.

“God, can they not be so loud?” I mumbled to Liam.

“You can barely hear them,” he argued.

“Yeah, but I can still hear them anyways,” I replied, folding my arms across my chest. I don’t know why I was so bothered with him moving on - this wasn’t normal. I had a boyfriend of my own, and Harry was simply my past. But, I guess, a part of my heart was still with him.

“Just try to ignore them,” Liam advised. I nodded, turning my attention back to the movie.

“Harry, stop!” I heard someone giggle loudly. Madison had better shut up right now. I groaned, and Liam squeezed me reassuringly.

“No, what are you doing?” Harry said, laughing.

“That’s it,” I said, getting up, in frustration. Liam watched me as I stormed out of the television room and made my way into the kitchen. I pushed open the door, and I saw Harry trying to boil pasta with Madison.

They were cooking. Together. That was something we did when we first started dating. He showed me his ‘famous dish’ and let me help make it with him. I thought I was so special. He told me the recipe was a secret, and that only few people knew about. What bullshit.

“Can you please be quiet? We’re trying to watch a movie,” I said, testily. I put my hands on my hips, and Harry stared at me.

“Oh, sorry,” Madison said.

“No, you can barely hear us!” Harry said, right after. He stepped away from his girlfriend and walked towards me.

“If I can hear every word you’re saying, then you’re talking too loud,” I snapped. I knew I was overreacting, but something about this situation just made me so angry. I couldn’t help myself. I know I told him to move on, but throwing in my face like this was really upsetting.

“Oh, come on,” he argued, “you’re so loud with Liam all the time when I’m trying to sleep.”

“That was once! And Zayn told us to be quiet,” I raised my voice in return.

“Are you listening to yourself, Jess? You sound ridiculous!”

I just gave him one last glare before walking out of the room more frustrated than ever.

I sat in my room, scrolling through tweets on twitter. It seemed to get my mind off of Madison and Harry. I couldn’t help but think they were falling and falling more and more in love with each other, but there was nothing I could do about it. It was like I was just watching on the sidelines, and the coach wasn’t putting me on to play the game.

No. I shook my head of that thought. I like Liam now. Come on, Jessie.

I had plenty of DMs from Harry and Liam. More so Liam right now. I scrolled down to look at the last one Harry had ever sent me, when he was making his music video.

@JessieHall I’m going to bed now, love. Remember that I love you :)

That was two months ago. Wow, so much could change in eight weeks. I sighed, tapping my keyboard rhythmically. How could I ever forget that he loved me when I always thought about?

He told me that he loved me during the making of his music video. When he really had eyes for Madison.

I heard a knock at my door, and I looked up. “Come in!” I said, expecting Louis or Liam.

But it was Madison. I refrained from sighing and put on a happy smile. I quickly closed my laptop lid and sat up.

“Hey Madison,” I said, trying to steady my voice.

“Hey,” she said sweetly - a little too sweetly. I waited for her to speak again. I didn’t know what to say to her other than she was stealing my boyfriend who wasn’t really my boyfriend who I told to move on. Complicated.

“How are you?” I wondered.

“Fine,” she replied. “And you?”

“Good,” I responded, not knowing what else to say. “Er - how’s Harry?”

“He’s great, now that you mention him. Oh, can I clear some things up with you?” She came to sit on the edge of my bed. I nodded.

“Sure.”

“I’ve heard that you guys used to have feelings for each other -“

“We were together for seven months,” I replied, folding my arms across my chest. I didn’t like where this was going.

“Yeah,” she said shortly. “But he’s not with you anymore. He’s with me. You lost your chance.”

“What the hell are you talking about?”

“Oh don’t bullshit me,” she replied, testily. I couldn’t believe how much of a turn this conversation was making. We had gone from friendly banter to this. I got up from my bed, glaring at her. “I know you like him still. You still have feelings for him. Right?”

“No! I’m with Liam now.”

“You can hide behind that excuse all you want, but the truth always comes out eventually,” she said, evenly. I shook my head.

“Get out of my room.”

“You’re just upset you don’t have him.”

“He’s not a prize, Madison!” I raised my voice, and she stood up from my bed as well. We were face to face now. “You can’t just win him! A relationship is about liking each other for who they are.”

“Oh, you’re just upset that you lost this game,” she said, smugly.

She started to walk out of the room, but before she left, she flipped her long brown hair and made one more snide comment:

“Everybody hates a sore loser, Jess.”
