10. Chapter 10

However, Harry quickly regained his composure and turned his attention towards his date.

I rolled my eyes and took a seat beside Liam and Louis.

“So, er, this is very new.” Louis gestured towards me and Liam. “Like, so new that I don’t think anyone had any idea.”

I laughed nervously. All eyes were on me. “Oh,” I said. “Well, it kind of just happened today.”

Harry looked at me, narrowing his eyes. He didn’t believe anything I was saying and I knew it. However, I was telling the truth. He just made me doubt everything I was doing.

“No kidding,” Zayn said, chortling to himself. “And Megan, how did you meet Harry?”

“We’re family friends,” she said, smiling towards Harry.

“No you’re not,” I said, shaking my head. Wow, those words just tumbled out of my mouth before I could even stop them. The whole table looked towards me for an explanation. “Harry, I’ve met everyone who possibly ever lived in Chesire. Everyone you’re friends with, I’m friends with too.”

“I’m from Glasgow, love,” Megan said, sweetly. Ugh, she can stop with the act. “We’ve known each other since we were two - their family used to come to Glasgow a lot in the summer.”

“Oh,” was all I could manage. Liam was looking at me strangely, but could I blame him?

I noticed that Niall hadn’t said a word yet. I looked over at him and he was looking down at his empty plate. He had to be hurting inside. He was the only one who didn’t bring a date, and seeing me with someone else - one of his best mates - had to be so cruel. I felt so terrible.

“So, Megan, how was Harry as a younger kid?” Zayn wondered.

“You could always ask me, Zayn. He’s told me loads of stories about him when he was a child,” I said. Louis nudged me slightly, implying that I should shut up. I probably should stop talking.

“Er, well,” Megan said, trying to sidestep an awkward moment, “he was quite the cute kid. I just always remember him running around naked, asking me if I wanted to colour my toast.”

Everyone burst out laughing at this. However, I just scowled. Harry had always told me he had fetish for eating coloured toast when he was younger, but he never told me that he had company whilst doing it.

“Oh come on, Megan. You know you liked it,” Harry replied, laughing.

“That was only because I had a small crush on you when we were little,” she said, and I sighed out of impatience.

“You fancied Harry?” I wondered.

“When we were six,” she explained, smiling. “However, every little girl fancied Harry. And now every girl in the country is after you.”

Harry chuckled, modestly. I rolled my eyes. Yes, he’s a heartthrob. Everyone loves him. But do they really know him? Does this Megan kid even know him?

“Oh, the last time I saw you was a year ago. You still with that girlfriend of yours?” Megan wondered, curiously. I dropped the fork I was playing with but said nothing. Harry shifted in his seat uncomfortably.

“Oh, er, no,” he said, awkwardly.

“Shame,” she replied. Then she said to the table, “he always went on and on about how gorgeous she was, how much she understood him, how talented she was. It was adorable. Too bad. I wanted to meet her.”

He said all those things about me? I felt myself blush and my stomach twist. “Well, now you have.”

Megan turned to me in confusion, but then it clicked in her mind. “Oh my God, you’re the girlfriend aren’t you?”

I nodded, heat rushing to my face.

“But, she’s with me now.” Liam put his arm around me protectively.

“Which I don’t understand,” Harry said, angrily. “Dude, Niall and I already messed it up. And you just added yourself to the mix.”

“I couldn’t help it!”

“Oh, yeah right!”

“Okay, I can see I caused some sort of chaos,” Megan said, sadly. “I’m really sorry. Maybe I should just go. Catch up with you another time, Harry.”

“I’m leaving too,” I said, scraping back my chair. I glared at Harry, before following his ‘date’ out of the room. Megan looked behind her shoulder and slowed down to walk with me.

“Look, I’m sorry about all that. He was just so in love with you last year, I was surprised so much had happened since then.”

“Don’t worry,” I said, smiling. Megan wasn’t so bad after all.

“Jessie wait!” I heard from behind. Harry was standing there, trying to catch up with me.

“What, Harry?”

“How could you date Liam? How could you do that to me?”

“Well, you brought a date!”

“Megan’s not my date!” he said, pleadingly. “But, you and Liam were actually together. And I can’t believe you would do that to me and Niall. Jess, I love you. You have to believe that. And I know you don’t love Liam as much. It’s because we fit together, you know? You’re my one.”

I shook my head. I couldn’t believe this was happening. I couldn’t help but feel like I wanted to get back together with him. I wanted that spark with him again. But, I just couldn’t handle all of this right now.

“I’m sorry, Harry. I just don’t know if I could be with you again after what you did to me,” I said, sadly. This was so hard to say. Because I realized I wanted nothing more than to kiss him and to make all these problems go away. Liam and Niall were great guys.

But would I ever love them as much as I loved Harry?

“I brought you something,” Liam said, from the doorway. I was in my dressing room, listening to my iPod. I took out the two earbuds and looked at him.

Liam and I had been dating for approximately two weeks. I had avoided Harry and Niall at all costs. Niall seemed to not want to talk to me either. It just seemed easier not seeing their faces that much. Made me feel less guilty, even thought I knew it hung over my head.

“Did you?” I wondered, smiling. I had learned to really like him. He was sweet - always caring about me, putting my needs first. He was great for a nice conversation, and he always made me feel better when I was having a crappy day. We were a cute couple.

But, I just never had the same intimacy as I did with Harry. Not that it was all physical with me and Harry, but we always had that pull towards each other. Something I had yet to find with anyone else.

“It’s nothing really. Just a necklace,” he said, holding a velvet case. I widened my eyes in surprise. He put the tiny box in the palm of my hand, and I grinned at him.

“You really didn’t have to,” I replied, lifting the lid. I gasped as I saw a silver pendant, with a cursive ‘J’ written in the middle, hanging on a simple chain. It reflected off the light in the room.

I leaned in to give him a kiss to thank him. He put his arm around my waist. When we pulled away, he took the necklace and attempted to put it around my neck. I felt his hands fiddle with the clasp, and I chuckled.

“Having troubles?” I wondered.

“Shut up,” he said, jokingly.

The door swung open and someone said, “Hey Jess…oh, sorry.”
