1. Chapter 1

I strummed the strings on my guitar lightly, as I looked at the open page of my notebook. My new song just wasn’t flowing. I took the pencil and scratched out the last verse I had just written. The lyrics didn’t seem truthful.

Well, it was kind of hard writing a beautiful love song when my love life wasn’t doing so well. It’s not that I had a lack of love…because I do have a boyfriend. But, right now, we were going through quite a rough patch.

I guess I should probably talk about my boyfriend. Harry Styles. Even his name sounds nice, doesn’t it? Well, Harry is undeniably one of those boys who will make heads turn everywhere he goes. Those stunning blue-green eyes, thick curly hair that frames his face perfectly…he’s quite a gorgeous person. And I’m not just saying that because I have a bias. He is honestly very attractive.

My mobile phone started to ring, leading me back into reality. I checked the display screen:

Harry Styles calling

I pressed ignore hastily. However, the phone rung again. And again…

What?” I practically spat into the phone.

“Jess, I’m sorry - please, the pictures aren’t what they look like,” Harry said pleadingly. I rolled my eyes. Usually, his pleading voice would make me forgive him. But not this time. Especially since this problem kept happening.

“Harry, I need to go,” I said, monotonously. I didn’t want to speak to him.

“No, you don’t! Jessie, please - just talk to me,” he said, again in that desperate voice. Why did he always do this to me? He always managed to make me listen. To make me rethink my decision.

“Okay, fine,” I replied, harshly. “Tell me why magazines keep printing out pictures of you getting very ‘cozy’ with girls at different night clubs?”

“I’ve never kissed any of them! Never thought about them that way at all! I loveyou, Jess. No one else.”

He always made me believe he was right. I even felt myself becoming a little softer. “You were still an inch away from their faces!”

“That’s because we were in clubs, and the music was loud - so they couldn’t hear me! I had to be close to them,” he explained.

“Do you know how stupid that sounds?” I retorted. How could he say something so idiotic? I was getting very angry at the moment.

“Jess, I’m sorry,” he replied, sadly. “Really - I am. But, I don’t think it’s fair that you jumped t conclusions when you don’t know the full story.”

This is when I started to feel bad. When I always started to feel bad. He managed to turn around the blame, and it ended up falling on me constantly.

Well, maybe I was to blame. Girls were constantly falling over Harry - even before he was on the X-Factor. However, he had never cheated on me.

“I’m sorry. It’s just that ever since the X-Factor ended, your popularity blew up - and I guess I’m just paranoid all the time.”

It was months after the singing competition, and I thought I would be getting much less hate for being the coveted band singer’s girlfriend. Or I would be able to see him more often than I did when he was on the show. But, I was wrong. Very wrong, in fact. It only seemed to be getting worse.

“I miss you - you know that,” he responded. “But, the band is really a big focus of mine right now. And, I thought you understood that I wouldn’t be able to spend as much time with you as before.”

“I do understand that!” I replied, defensively. “I’ve been so supportive throughout your whole time on the X-Factor…I’m just saying I miss being with you.”

“Well, Jess, I’m famous now - so you’re going to have to get used to going long periods of time without seeing each other,” he said, sighing into the phone.

“Harry, I know you’re famous. And I know we’re going to have to work it out - sometimes, it just sucks, that’s all…”

There was a moment of silence before he retaliated. “I already told you I was never the commitment kind of person and a relationship would be hard for me. But I loved you, so I tried this boyfriend-girlfriend thing. And it worked. I want it to keep working. Don’t you?”

This is true. Before we even started dating, he told me he was a commitment kind of person. That he never had a girlfriend before - he liked to be free to move around. There were always rumours about him being with all these girls. That is, until he and I met each other in Maths. There was the obvious attraction there. But, I guess - we just started to like each other’s company a lot more, and I didn’t want to be just another girl he gets with. So, Harry decided he wanted to commit. And he has kept that promise for over six months now.

But now, with millions of girls falling at his feet, who knows how much longer he’ll want to stay with me for?

“Of course I still want it to work. I’m just so worried that you’ll find someone better than me, or you already have,” I confessed. I felt somewhat embarrassed telling him how desperate I was to stay with him - but he needed to know.

“You have absolutely nothing to worry about,” he said, reassuringly. His voice sounded so true, that I believed him. “In fact, I have a surprise for you.”

“What?” I asked, eagerly and cheerily.

He chuckled. “You sound so cute when you’re happy.”

This made me blush. I was glad we were going back to normal again. “No, I’m not.”

“Yes, you are,” he told me.

“Well, you’re cute too.”

“Not as cute as you,” he replied. And we went on like this, until I remembered he started of with having something to tell me.

“What’s the surprise, Harry?” I wondered, curious now.

“Well, it’s going to solve our distance problem,” he said, excitedly. “How would you like to spend four months with me, and the boys - of course, on a tour?”

What?” I screamed into the phone. I couldn’t believe this. It was almost too good to be true!

“Better yet, how would you like to open for us? I know you’ve been writing so many amazing songs. How about playing them for 20,000 people?”

I literally almost fainted. Being able to share my music, to share my passion for singing with all those people…while having my boyfriend there. What could be better than that?

“You are the most amazing boyfriend ever!” I said, repeatedly into the phone, ecstatically.

“So does that mean yes?” he asked, laughing.

“Yes!” I replied.

We chattered on and on about how excited we were to see each other again, and he told me what the boys had been up to for the past few days. It felt so nice to talk to him again, without any tension or problems arising. It was almost like he was back home again.

It would be nice to say that everything will run smoothly on tour, and there will be no conflicts and everybody will get along.

But then, there would be no story.
