Dragon Scales

The name's Bella, Bella Grande. I'm a dragon rider. Well I was until the terrible day when my dragon, Fireseeker was taken away from me to be trained for the mighty war of our nation. My father lost his life trying to save Fireseeker. Now I will avenge him. I will kill the gorgeous boy who killed him.

7. Narrow escapes

Once again the guards set up, they looked tired and fed up. They knew no men would come now because they were all in training already, so they began to draw on the back of the applying sheet. I caused quite a shock as I jumped down swiftly from the tree. They stopped their drawing and looked up, one nearly fell off his chair. I strided over confidently and signed my father's name. Then the more organised man stamped  'APPROVED' next to my name. I smirked, but the other man looked up and frowned. he asked me...

"So why didn't you sign up in another town 'en? We could use 'ya mate!"

I thought fast, the two men's stares were fixed on me. I stuttered nervously...

"I...I..I have only just moved to this town. I..I arrived after you left last t...time."

Both men stared at me for a few seconds, I dug my nails into my moist palms. I had blown it, all my plans. I would have to face my Mother again, never see Fireseeker again. My life was ruined I thought, they looked ast each other but then they both broke out in a smile and laughed. They simultaneously said 'yes' with enthusiasm.

I was so relieved, they told me to wait in the back of their cart. I did and I shut the door behind me, it was all wood apart from a small square that had vertical bars. like a prisoner, not someone on their way to fight for their nation. I began to think I was on my way to something much worse than training, I was on my way to death it felt like.

I waited for an hour in the small cart, then one of the men packed up the table and chairs and the paper whilst the other bolted the door of my prison cell shut. I was glad that I was rejected last time. The cell could barely fit three grown men, but all of our forty men of the village went. I sat back and watched as the familiar streets vanished. We were just leaving Karmenna, I gave one last look at what had once been my hometown. Now it was just some buildings and a cloumn of smoke rising from the farm, I was glad to leave it. I smiled when suddenly an someone screamed my name, I then saw my ex-mother running as fast as she could down the cobbled street and shaking her fist. She was coming closer quickly. She finally caught up with us and banged the side of the cart and telling the guards to stop, but I whistled over her. Her face became even redder as she screamed horrible things at me and ordered me to come out of the cart. Finally, I was in a place where she couldn't hurt me or order me to do something, and it felt good.

I then told the guards that there was a lunatic banging the door and they needed to speed up, away from her, I was so relieved when my mother was nothing more than a small blob in the distance. It had been two narrow escapes this morning, but I was finally on my way to training, on my way to Fireseeker, with my father watching over me.
