Dragon Scales

The name's Bella, Bella Grande. I'm a dragon rider. Well I was until the terrible day when my dragon, Fireseeker was taken away from me to be trained for the mighty war of our nation. My father lost his life trying to save Fireseeker. Now I will avenge him. I will kill the gorgeous boy who killed him.

11. King Geoffrey III

I had spent most of the night rehearsing what I was going to say, I am not tired because I do not think about sleep. All I think of is Fireseeker's life. Josh had come in last night and asked me to come to his cabin so we could talk. I had snapped at him, but soon I went with him. I thought he was going to mock me and tell me it was an useless plan, but he actually gave me tips. They were extremely useful. At the end he dismissed me, before he did, he gave me a set of 'Formal Attire' to wear for the hearing. I hugged him and left, he smelt like he looked, beautiful.

I had finally got to sleep, I dreamed of Josh and Fireseeker. I awoke early. I paced the long cabin, practising the King's part and mine. I was confident, I could do this. By the time I had rehearsed it forty or fifty times a few of the men were awake. They wished me good luck. I thanked them, all. No matter how confident I was I was still nervous.

I put on the set of clothes that Josh had given me last night and set off, out into the morning. I walked past the other cabins and out onto the road. Then, as Josh had instructed me, I waited for the horse and cart to arrive. When they did I was looking at the clouds. The driver had to whistle for me. I apologised and jumped in. The ride didn't take long but it felt like days. We finally stopped outside a stone building and was led into a small room furnished with red velvet chairs. I sat and waited with other people, The king didn't call me for a while. A man came out crying openly and then a guard called me in. I was led to another identical red chair but this one had a cushion on it. I sat and waited again. Then the King walked in. I stood and bowed. He looked magnificent. He was old, but he was also tanned and wore a redrobe. his favourite colour was definitely red. Everything  was red. he sat and told me to sit, I did and then we began.

He spoke, his voice was croaky voice, he began to read out Fireseeker's crimes...

"The dragon is accused of setting fire to most of the training field, breaking its rider's arm and both legs, causing the other dragons to become barely controllable and disrupting vital dragon training. How do you defend the dragon, Mister Grande?"

Suddenly all eyes were on me, I began to speak in a clear, loud voice, Josh had told me that he was jolly and didn't like the idea of the war, so I started with that, I said...

"The idea of a war is dreadful enough without having to execute helpless dragons. Dragons are vital in our army. The East already has more dragons and men than us, so why decrease our numbers even more? By decreasing our numbers we are decreasing our chances too. We are already a smaller nation than the East, but we are more skilled and that's how we are going to win this war."

The King's expressions changed a great deal throughout my speech. Agreement and then disappointment, he nodded throughout it, he then asked me the question I had waited for him to ask all along. He gave me a quizzical look and asked me...

"How can you be sure that this will not happen again if I decide not to kill it?"

I literally jumped out of my comfortable chair and said with too much enthusiasm...

" I am prepared to put in extra hours with the dragon, move to his group and give the original rider of him my dragon! It would be me honour! Please my King!"

   The King nodded and said...

"Very well, the dragon will not be executed, and you will train it, for an hour extra every night..."

   I interrupted his sentence...

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! My King, I will not let you down!" Thank you!"

"If you let me finish Miss Grande! You will not move to the dragon's group, you will stay in Group One but with the dragon, and I am making you second in comand of the fleet. Well Done Miss Grande! I am proud of you. But first, you must admit to your fleet that you are a woman.

I agreed, how did he know I was a woman? I traced back our conversation. Then I remembered when I had thanked him I had used my normal voice. But I didn't care, I was second in command with Fireseeker! I was overjoyed. I skipped out of the hall and back into the street. I looked for the horse and cart, but all that was there was Josh and Fireseeker.I ran to them. Josh had a huge grin on his face. I ran over to Fireseeker and hugged him. He breathed out some smoke to show his appreciation. Then I turned to Josh as he told me...

"I knew 'ya could do it Bella! I'm so proud of you! I flew 'im over to meet you! I knew 'ya could do it last night! Well done!"

Then I ran to him and kissed him. It felt amazing, I don't know why I did it but he returned the kiss, we were kissing for at least a minute. Then we stopped, I looked into his eyes and realised what I had done. I had kissed Josh, the man who let his dragon kill my father, but I didn't care about that anymore.I loved him.

We flew back on Fireseeker, holding hands all of the way and kissing for some of it. I couldn't be happier
