Moving into Death

Rylee, a lonely 10 year old girl finds an interesting looking gemstone while exploring in the garden of her new home. She soon becomes captivated by it and, oblivious to its actual power as a magic crystal, takes it home. After a while, when she notices some weird goings-on around the house, valuables going missing, people getting hurt etc she becomes apprehensive. She tries to tell her parents to no avail. Will she be able to convince them of the crystal's true powers before it's too late for them all?

8. Haylee And Then Crystal

It was Saturday, the week had passed by uneventfully with me catching up with school work with Georgia's help and still no sign of either the ring or Crystal. On the plus side Georgia was coming over on Sunday.

Suddenly the doorbell rang, interrupting my thoughts. Mam and Dad were busy with boxes so I went to the door and saw a girl a few years older than me standing there with a box of biscuits.

"Hi" She said in a friendly voice. "I'm Haylee, your new neighbour. You must be Rylee. Mam sent me over with home made cookies."

"Come in." I opened the door wide. "Though it's a bit messy with the moving."

Haylee got talking to me. She seemed nice. I popped the cookies down and invited her in for a while. She agreed easily. She was a bit of a talker so I just let her at it as I led her to my room.

I studied her while she was talking. She was very pretty. Pale skin with the slightest dab of make-up, long midnight black hair that was half way down her back, pretty azure-blue eyes, I'd be surprised if she told me she didn't have a boyfriend.

"So how old are you?" She asked me halfway through her random gossip.

"10, you?"

I wasn't surprised.

When we got there, the room looked ransacked, so I explained how I was looking for my lost purple crystal. She agreed to help look. So the search began- we looked high and low. Shelves, wardrobes, the washing machine. The lot.

She asked me how I had lost it and I hesitantly explained how I had found it and then I told her it just went missing. Her eyes widened as if she'd just thought of something when I explained it again.

Suddenly she ran into the garden and through the trees. She didn't stop until she reached the lake with me galloping, out of breath, after her. Haylee dropped to the ground and dug up the mud. I gaped. Had she lost her mind.

I saw when she had struck gold. Her azure-blue eyes lit up prettily. Triumphantly, she pulled out my purple crystal, and with it, I couldn't believe to see Mam's ring. I breathed a sigh of relief. The wonderful Haylee had found them!

I was about to gallop over to her when I froze. For she had flung the crystal in the lake.
