Moving into Death

Rylee, a lonely 10 year old girl finds an interesting looking gemstone while exploring in the garden of her new home. She soon becomes captivated by it and, oblivious to its actual power as a magic crystal, takes it home. After a while, when she notices some weird goings-on around the house, valuables going missing, people getting hurt etc she becomes apprehensive. She tries to tell her parents to no avail. Will she be able to convince them of the crystal's true powers before it's too late for them all?

10. Celebration Dinner

As a celebration for finding the ring, Mam and Dad took me to dinner. We found a nice bistro on the outside

of townHalfway through the three course meal Mam and Dad questioned me on how the ring got where it

was. I told them I didn't know. I think they thought it had been me messing with it and loosing it but they

didn't push the matter, too lost in their joy of finding it.

When we got home, Mam and Dad sent me to get changed and into bed. I obeyed their orders easily,

wrecked from the eventful day.

Under the duvet, I sighed tiredly. I couldn't quite believe my friend Crystal was actually bad.

"Ryleeeeeeee!" I heard a voice cry. "Rylee help me!"

I knew that ghostlike voice anywhere. It was Crystal.

"Rylee!" She wailed again.

I had two choices. I could leave her or not. Was she really bad? Maybe Haylee was just exaggerating.

Maybe she was just jealous that Crystal had left her for me!

I bet that's it! I thought excitedly.

"Rylee!" Crystal moaned. "Help me please!"

"Where are you?" I whispered questioningly.

"On top of your wardrobe. I can't get down. Please help." She muttered softly.

"How did you get up there?" I wondered.

"Just help me please!" She exclaimed.

Sighing heavily, I jumped tiredly out of bed.

"You'll have to climb up." She said when she saw I couldn't reach the top.

It was a bit of a struggle, but with my wiry frame I managed.

I got to the top and felt around for her, crawling on my stomach along the huge wardrobe.

There wasn't much room between me and the ceiling.

Finally, I felt her and jumped down. I thumped to the ground.

"Thanks," She breathed.

"No bother," I sighed back, getting back under my duvet and caressing Crystal in my hand.

I heard thumping up the stairs and Dad's head peered through the door.

"What's all this banging I'm hearing?" He asked sternly. "You better not be messing!"

"No!" I replied hurriedly. "I... Uh... Thought I heard a mouse on my closet and climbed up to see it.

There was none."

Dad sighed frustratedly. "No more going up on your closet. It's not a toy!"

"Okay." I replied meekly.

"Good girl." He said softly. "Don't forget Georgia's coming tomorrow. Mam will be up soon to tuck you in.

Night, Chicken."

"Night Dad."

"I hope I didn't get you into trouble," Said Crystal when Dad left.

"Your grand. Night Crystal."

"Night Rylee."

I gently put Crystal down on the bedside table.

I mused on whether or not to trust Crystal. I decided, though I did trust her, it wouldn't do any harm to do

a little research. I vowed to go to the library when I could.

I was sound asleep by the time Mam came in to tuck me in.
