Child of the Seas

Ebony and Merry live two very different lives in separate worlds. Neither has ever considered the possibility of the other's existence. But now the bridges between the worlds are weakening.
An ancient prophecy snatches Merry from her world and brings her to Ebony. Now, the two girls must save Ebony's world from a terror as old as the prophecy, which is destroying the world and the worlds connected to it.
Countless lives and worlds are resting on the girls' shoulders... but will Ebony and Merry be able to save them?

9. Ebony - 5

I couldn't believe it. I really was the Aglaia. And this girl... was the one with the "soul of water". It was a lot to take in.

"What do you mean, I'm the Sea Child?" Merry asked. "And what's the Aglaia? This is getting more and more confusing..."

I didn't answer Merry. My own mind was still reeling with my revelations. So now what? I was asking myself. What happens now? Do we have to go and fight the Terror? Right now?

Then I thought of something. I jumped to my feet. "Come. Thou must come with me to my village. We can get answers there."

Merry looked at me helplessly. "But I can't even walk."

I bit my lip. How was I supposed to get Merry anywhere if she couldn't move? I couldn't carry her, or even drag her. She was taller and heavier than me.

Merry laughed. "This is just a dream anyway. What am I worrying about? I can just wish away my tail. Abracadabra!" She pointed at her tail and swished it.

The next thing we knew, her tail was gone and she had legs, covered in a strange, scratchy blue material. I stepped back. This just confirmed my fears about the prophecy. Merry obviously had magic.

"Ha!" Merry crowed. "I knew this was just a dream." She staggered to her feet. "And look, I'm all dry now. Isn't that nice?"

I grabbed her arm. "Merry, I do not know what thou art talking about, but this is certainly not a dream. You and I are part of a prophecy. I must take thee to my village. Come quickly. There is a storm coming."

Merry's eyes widened and her smile disappeared. "What's this about a prophecy? And a storm? I've just come out of one. I don't need another!"

"I told thee: come to my village. I know someone who can help both of us." I was getting impatient. Didn't she see we had to go?

Of course not. She was from a different world. She wouldn't understand what the prophecy meant to some people.

"Merry, I know thou do not understandeth me completely, but this prophecy is what has been giving the people of my village hope. There is a monster in the skies known as the Terror, who fights with fire. We are the ones prophesied to destroy him."

"The dragon," murmured Merry, her eyes wide. "We have to destroy him?"

"You know of the Terror?" How was that possible?

Merry nodded. "He came to... my world, once, when I was just a small child."

The Terror had moved between worlds? What did this mean?

There was only one person I knew who could help us now.

"Come," I said. "If we are to get answers, there is only one person to ask. His name is Mendrakar."
