Child of the Seas

Ebony and Merry live two very different lives in separate worlds. Neither has ever considered the possibility of the other's existence. But now the bridges between the worlds are weakening.
An ancient prophecy snatches Merry from her world and brings her to Ebony. Now, the two girls must save Ebony's world from a terror as old as the prophecy, which is destroying the world and the worlds connected to it.
Countless lives and worlds are resting on the girls' shoulders... but will Ebony and Merry be able to save them?

3. Ebony - 2

It all began when the Terror started to roam, hundreds of years ago.

At first, tales of death and destruction brought from other kingdoms were brushed aside and snorted at. An invisible terror? It seemed like a myth.

That was before the storm, of course.

Everyone in my then-young village felt it coming. There was an electric tingle in the air, which tasted of rain. My ancestors began to shelter their livestock, crops and, most importantly, themselves.

Everyone was prepared.

Then why did it eventually come as a surprise?

Perhaps it was the screaming. The hysterical laughter. The terrified bleating of livestock as the rain pounded on the roof of the house my ancestor was inside.

Perhaps it was the wind, which howled just like a pack of howlers in the woods near the village, murderous and hungry for blood.

Perhaps it was the flash of lightning which lit up a previously invisible shape in the skies-a monster, bent on destroying us.

That was when people started to believe the tales of the Terror.

But nobody was fully convinced until the Castle burst into flame.

It was terrifying. The huge mass of stone, which, back then, had sheltered our village for hundreds of years already, was suddenly alight with curling red claws, intent on tearing the castle down.

Then came cackling laughter, and a few seconds later, another bolt of fire fried some nearby livestock and set fire to a house. The rain pounding down had absolutely no effect on the flames.

People came out of their houses and started to scream. How could they fight fire when water had no effect on it?

Suddenly there came a voice, a booming voice, out of the sky. The voice of water itself. It spoke the words of what would come to be known as the Aglaia's Prophecy.

In your world, this Terror shall stay. But in hundreds of years on this very day, From this world, shall come the one who is to save you A child she will be, with powers like nobody before her. The Aglaia, her name will be. From a strange realm, there will come one whose very soul is water Equaling only the Aglaia in power. A mystery in name, she is. Countless lives will be lived in full For these young souls' deeds Shall rid this world of the horror it has spawned And free this realm and others. You will be protected, you will be saved. So remember these words, and the Aglaia's name.

The storm stopped and the fire flickered out.

The Terror vanished with a furious howl.

But our village knew it would return, and eventually the prophecy would have to come true.
