Letters By Heart

Tennyson Mason is a 15-year-old girl with a difficult life. Her family doesn't have much money, and her dad abuses her. Sonny is not very popular and she is definitely not a supermodel. But only one thing cheers her up--listening to One Direction, the popular boy band that doesn't know she exists. But when she takes a chance and writes to them, she never thought that her life would turn around. Is it all to good to be true? Or is this love life, which she never dreamed existed, meant to be?

3. The Letter

I woke up to sun streaming through the windows. I yawned tiredly and walked to my desk. I glanced down at the letter I finished writing around 4am. I thought it was okay, I talked abit about my life, where I lived and how old I was. I talked about their songs, asking why they sing songs about chasing after this one girl, while there is billions out in the crowd. Finally, I ended with writing them each a paragraph, explaining what I loved about them and how they inspire me.

I sealed the envelope and went down stairs. My dad was nowhere in sight, as he works out at the gym in the mornings, and my mom was at work. It was just my three older brothers, who were lounging in the family room, playing xbox360. They wouldn't notice I was gone, so I got on my flip flops and went out the door. A took a deep breath as I rounded the corner to the group mailbox. I stared at the Canadian flag, stickered next to the box for putting envelopes in. I hated living in Canada, nothing exiting happened here. Especially in Ottawa, there was nothing to do. We had no accents, no famous boy bands. We only had stinking Justin Beiber, who was a major snob to anyone who knew him.

I took another deep breath, and before I could change my mind, I pushed the envelope in the box. I heard it fall down, and I turned around, heading towards home.

I took a huge breath, getting ready for today's letter-openings. My hands were incredibly sore from writing back to some fans. We wrote back to as many as we could, but at the end of the day, there was always too many. I heard footsteps come down the hall to my room, and then Niall popped his head in

"Another day mate, let's get at it!"

I groaned into my covers. I really didn't want to do this. When we agreed, we thought it would be fun. I mean, reading the letters from our fans were amazing, since we loved me so much. But all we did was sit around the table and stare at paper. But Niall made sure we had a bowl of fishy crackers or something to keep our energy up.

"I don't want to, it's boring" I complained into the covers again.

"Awh c'mon mate, who knows what we'll find today! We can do this!" exclaimed Niall.

I shifted my body to the right and looked up at him. He was standing with a smile on his face and his eyes were gleaming. Niall was so happy and cheerful all the time, it was hard not to catch on. I slid put of bed, landing on my butt. Niall snickered and shook his head, before leaving the room. I took a quick shower and put some comfy clothes on, since we weren't going anywhere today. As I came to the kitchen, I saw the boys sitting around with 5...10...20 and counting huge bags on the table. These bags were literally huge, bigger than any regular garbage bag. I joined the boys and stared at the letters. By far, this was the most we've gotten. We all glanced at each other, and each pulled one letter out and starting reading. This was going to be a long day.

I felt like crying. It's been 3 hours already, and we've only done about a quarter of them. I was starving, so I got up and took out the frozen pizza. I threw it on a pan and chucked it in the oven. While I was waiting for it to be done, I was thinking about some of the crazy letters I had gotten so far. I recalled this one that said that she would be honored to smell my farts. How weird is that?!

When the oven beeped, I took out the pizza and brought it over to the table. Liam and Louis both went to take a grab and soon the pizza slices were done. And guess how many I had?! Two!! Life was so unfair, even I couldn't keep up the mood.

A few hours later, I found something the interested me. A letter from Canada! We haven't gotten that much from Canada, just around 300 or something. Put this one was different. It had no hearts drawn on the corners of the paper, and it was written on a brown bag. But the main difference that caught my eye was that on the envelope, it didn't say "One Direction". Instead it said "My Inspiration". Hmm, that's new. I smoothed it out and started reading.

About 15 minutes later, the letter had begun to sink in. This girl, who's name was Tennyson Mason, was something different. I didn't know what it was. But we still had over 5 thousand letters to write to, so I decided to write her back a quick letter. I took out a piece of white paper that was stationed in the middle and started writing back to her, explaining that it was mainly me who was going to be writing. I told her how great it was to receive her...letter, I guess, and the usual standard stuff Paul wanted us to write. Just when we were supposed to stop and seal the letter, I still wrote abit more. I was curious about her so I asked why she chose to write on a brown bag and said that if she could ever meet me, I would be quite excited. I sighed and decided to end it like that, so I sealed it and threw it in the "out" pile. I took a breath and leaned back on my chair. It was silent except for the occasional cough, or the snuffle from Zayn, who was abit sick at the time.

I had to use the loo, so I stood up and walked to the bathroom. When I finished, I looked at my reflection in the mirror. How my life has changed, it was so incredible. I wish more people had the chance to do what they loved. But wait, that's it, I thought to myself, that's what Sonny said she would love to do, come see us. I had some spare signing tickets in my bedroom, I could give those to her. Of course, no one could know about it, as technically we aren't supposed to give those tickets to fans, only family members.

A knock on the bathroom door startled me from my plan.

"Hey uh you okay in there? You've been in there for awhile.". It was Liam.

"yeah I'm fine" I said, as I opened the door. Liam smiled before heading back to the kitchen, where it looked like we were just passed half done. I sidestepped into my room and opened my drawer, to find three signing tickets. I put them in my pocket and strolled over to the kitchen, sitting on the chair. I reached over and stealthily ripped opened the letter that I wrote to Sonny. I put the tickets in and sealed it as quickly as possible. No one noticed. I smiled and continued with the letters.
